@@a.person7825 No, those were also the most reliable VWs. The 1.8T is an absolute legend among tuners for being the best first turbo engine, super reliable and affordable. Then there's the 1.9 TDI, ultrareliable diesel engine that is very slow stock but can make impressive power. Unless you're talking about something like the V10 TDI the cars of that time were also very simple. Even those expensive to maintain cars have cheap and reliable versions like the 3.0 TDI Touareg.
These were really lovely cars new. This era of VW from the late 90s to the mid 00s is full of great quality cars for your money, but they required a little more love and maintenance than your typical volume buyer wanted to put in. But if you gave them some love and didn't let any problems get away from you, they were fundamentally really good cars. I had two GTIs a few years later than this but same era and outside of the infamous window clips in my 2002, they really never demanded anything but fluids and maintenance on wear items. Don't wait for the 105k factory timing belt interval (more like 60-80k) and don't believe that the transmission fluid is "lifetime", change it at least every 40k.
VW acquired Audi in the early 1970s for their expertise in something VW sorely lacked at the time - liquid cooled engines. For obvious reasons. With the exception of the VR6 (with W variants) and the five cylinder / 10 cylinder (when Lamborghini was acquired), the majority of liquid-cooled engines in VWs and Audis are designed by Audi.
The trunk in this is actually normal sized. It's just that the Camry and Accord are so impractical with their huge size and tiny trunk that it seems large.
VW's design of this era is so timeless and elegant. Incredible.
This was definitely VW’s golden era IMO
So much innovation, best in class cars, and fantastic advertising
Absolute junk to own, however.

@imnotusingmyrealname4566 they had a lot of electrical issues though. Some of them were pretty bad.
@@damilolaakanni well my mom's 20 year old VAG car's central locking is no longer working, do you mean that by electrical?
I can smell the antifreeze through my screen

Beautiful this Passat
The worst music choice in MW's already very questionable music history.
Right?! My ears are an open sore after hearing that albatross.
I always thought it was like a poor mans Audi. Styling very similar. And i know Audi is part of VW.

This is definitely one of my dream cars.. the manual one.. beautiful design.
im not sure if i like how it looks or not
WTF is with that music??
It's supposed to sound German, I guess. Beyond annoying
Sauerkraut Polka
Shame these cars were not so reliable versus Camry/Accord.
That said, Camry and Accord had to step up their game in their subsequent redesigns!
The music at 0:59 literally had my dying of laughter 😂 can you say stereotypical?
Beautiful the VW Passat
