Just started formal lesson at 66 yrs. Came home to find this video so I should get the hang of it with practice!!!

I am by no means an expert when it comes to Brazilian dance styles. However, I've been studying the music for over 10 years and I've seen many professional dance teachers teach various styles of Brazilian dance, namely at a workshop called California Brazil Camp, which brings in some of the best Brazilian educators in the world. This does not look like any style of Brazilian dance I've ever seen. First of all the video is labelled "Samba dance steps." What kind of samba is this trying to teach? Samba no pé? Samba de gafieira? This looks more like gafieira than samba no pé to me, but it's not clear what style they're going for here, especially because the music being used is definitely not Brazilian. If anything it's salsa. If you're wanting to teach a dance style that is influenced by samba that's fine, but it should be labelled as such. I just think it's unfortunate that people are spreading misinformation about what samba is, both in terms of the music and dance. If people want to learn about styles of Brazilian dance I would encourage them to look up "samba no pé" or "samba de gafieira," and find sources that are more authentic.

@@globalcoupledances The style of dance that is most often referred to when people use the term "samba" is "samba no pé," although it can also be used to refer to samba de gafieira and a few other styles. If this is a video about samba de gafieira then it should say so in the title, not just "samba." That being said, if this is supposed to be a video about dancing samba de gafieira, it looks much different than any gafieira that I've seen danced by professional gafieira dance teachers from Brazil.
What is this? Is this SAMBA? I think it is other thing... I can not believe! You can see more about samba looking on Brazil... I Think so!
This is the International style Samba - It's a Ballroom style.
@@catherinev7533 I would lilke to hear/learn more about this. Seems too true that many dances are "international"--which tends to mean over-formal, ergo not fun, nothing a person would leap onto the dance floor to do, motivated by music!
