    Excellent video. Brakes are the same with my wife's MY2024 GLC 300 4matic and similar on the back of MY2023 GLA45 AMG. Fronts on the GLA45 are a bit of different style, bigger caliper, and you need to remove it to replace the pads.

      Thank you! Good to know it's a similar process on newer cars.

    Great video, I have a c450 but I think I need to replace the rotors because when I hit the brake it start shaking

      Thanks! Sounds like a rotor problem. Just did them on my wife's Tucson.

    hey im going to get a c43 soon and i was thinking about this
    which jack are you using?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 18 dny +1

      It's a low profile Craftsman aluminum floor jack. I also recommend an adapter like this one to help hold the car securely.

      I also put a jack stand under the control arm as a backup for safety.

    On the C400, C43 and C63 it is always recommended to replace the rotors when replacing brake pads. This is because the rotor wears on these high performance kits. Did you measure your rotor to see where the wear was at? I always replace the brakes and rotors as a set front and rear. I drive these cars very spirited. I have C400 and C63s

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 6 měsíci

      Agreed. I normally would replace the rotors with the pads too since I was already at 70k miles. Short on time and skipped it. I'll get them this spring.

    According to the Mercedes Work shop manual (WIS) you shouldn't put anything on the back of the brake pads.
    At the service after i changed the brakes on my E63S i talked about the change with a mechanic and he specifically asked me if i put anything on the back of the brake pads and he pointed out that you wouldn't do that on these high performance cars (for whatever reason)

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 7 měsíci

      I've had no issues. It just stops the backing plates from rattling. The pads don't move very much when braking. I can't imagine it making a big difference. German cars always seem to have these special rules for minor details. It was a strict rule to not use anti seize in certain areas on my BMW. Apparently it promoted corrosion between different metal types.

      Dude dont touch the padding with greasy fingers, you just ruined the padding on the brand new pads

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I've got bigger problems, the pads just got wet in the rain!
      I didn't get brake grease on the padding, but even if I did leave a fingerprint the pads are fine. They live in road grime, rain, and salt.

    Does a screwdriver not damage the rotor when prying against it?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před měsícem +1

      If you're rough you might be able to scratch the rotor. Helps to keep the flat head of the screwdriver flat against the rotor when prying, but I didn't see any damage during my change. Rotors already see rocks/debris on the road. I'm not concerned about it.

    You saved me so much money quick question would the method shown here work on a c300 2019 ?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 5 měsíci

      It should be very similar. Somebody in the comments here said the brakes were the same on their 2024 GLC300. And similar on the back of their 2023 GLA45 AMG, but their fronts were larger and the caliper had to be removed which is just 2 bolts.

    Would this hurt the resale value of the car since I would do it myself? Since there would be no service book records and such?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 4 měsíci +1

      In my opinion, it doesn't hurt the resale value. It might keep 1 very picky buyer from buying it, but that's rare. I don't find that to be an issue with older used cars. People might expect that more on a 2yr old car.

      @@mikecamera818 Thank you very much, Mike! After I wrote this comment, I just said what the hell and did the brake change myself. I bought my pads from Autodoc (European parts seller, the biggest one in EU), followed your instructions and it was a total breeze. Had to loan a few tools from my neighbour though!
      By the way, the procedure is the same on a GLC 2018! You saved me at least 400€ in dealership fees.

    I know older cars you had to disable the air suspension ...do we no longer need to?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 6 měsíci +1

      As far as I know most of the modern cars with an active suspension are electronic. My C450 has electronic dampers but I didn't need to mess with those. Just the electronic parking brake had to be set to "fitting" mode as shown in my video to release the rear calipers fully.

    When you enter the menu for the rear parking brake disengagement, can you shut the vehicle off while changing the rear pads? Or does the ignition need to remain ON?

    • @mikecamera818
      @mikecamera818  Před 3 měsíci

      You can turn the vehicle off. You'll just have to get back into the menu to exit the brake fitting setting.

      @@mikecamera818cheers man thanks. Literally just finished about 5 minutes ago - thanks for the video it was a great help. Note however, on the AMG steering wheel the buttons that you press to enter the rear brake release function are different.
      For my 2020 GLC43 with the AMG sport steering wheel it was HOLD the “HOME/BACK” button (right hand side of steering wheel) and TAP the “OK” touchpad button directly next to the “HOME/BACK” button.

    What size is the bolt on the brake pad sensor connector

    • @mikecamera818

      I don't recall but it's a common metric size. Something like a 10-12mm socket.
