They are both just so beautiful. Her emotions seem so genuine here. The first time I saw this I was fully convinced they were really in love during the making of this movie.
Same. They really made it look like they were truly into each other even when the cameras were off and not shooting just like Brad Pitt and Angelina jolie were actually dating and got married during their movies (mr and mrs smith)
Heather & Macabree, they *were* in love. They fell in love during the making of this movie. They had a romantic relationship for some time until he learned his previous girlfriend was pregnant with his child. He decided to return to her for the sake of the child. Apparently their on screen chemistry was not acted, which is probably why it was so powerful in the movie.
If I had to pick a scene that is one of THE BEST in cinema history, this would be in my top 5!
Jane Seymour's performance here is one of THE BEST dramatic scenes ever, imo.
This is an absolutely gorgeous scene. (And kudos to the actress playing the maid for her improvisational skills!)
Such a beautiful scene, and for me, it really makes you cry even more to think that not only does Elise love Richard, but what she felt for him during this scene empowered her acting even more. Richard made her, in that moment, the star that her manager Robinson had foreseen. Robinson just didn’t know that Richard was the key to that.
I believe Robinson’s issue was only ever that he feared Elise would leave acting, believing that Richard, like any other man in 1912, would ultimately prefer a wife and mother, even if this pair is a playwright and an actress. But what he didn’t count on was Richard being unlike any other man from that time.
@@bespectacledheroine7292 Right! He didn't COUNT on Richard being a famous playwright too :)
The audience thought she was acting, she wasn't.
I love how Elsie zones out and looks at Richard while saying I Love You.
A very special, touching scene that conveys real true sincere feelings about how she feels and the impact he has had upon her life.

In the movie, Elise McKenna is a young woman who has never experienced love. When the producers were auditioning actresses for the movie, they asked each one, " Have you ever bern in love " ?
Jane Seymour was the only actress that said no. This was how she was chosen for the role.
Oh yes!! Indeed. And the way he responds, shock and desperately wanting to be with her, as anyone in love would be, rushes back stage, and then...The photograph!!!!
They were both in love on set and off set. So Romantic!! ❤
this scene makes me cry EVERY DAMN TIME! And i've watched it like 500 times.
Hhahahah me 2 :)

I was just reading about the film, after watching it again last night. Jane visited the hotel in early 2000s and delivered this soliloquy to the guests enthrallment.
The delivery of both Jane's beautiful voice and John Barry's score in this scene is perfection. ❤️
I loved this beautiful scene & named my first daughter Elise after she was born in 1985❤ we still watch the movie and always have tears every time ! 😢
There is an official Somewhere in Time website, and recently in 2019 Jane Seymour attended the movie event at the Grand Hotel where it was filmed, on Mackinac Island. About 10 years ago I personally ordered a copy of the portrait in the Hall of History, and the person who runs the website is in the film. She asked me what I would like Jane Seymour to write on the back of the portrait, I wasn't exactly sure, and then she suggested, "Is it you?" I thought that was perfect, so I said yes, she sent the portrait to Jane, that's what she wrote, she signed it, and then sent it directly to me. I still have it to this very day. Next time she goes to the Grand Hotel for the next Somewhere in Time event, I would like very much to be there to say hello.
Magical scene, everyone else but the two of them just disapear.
The man i created in my mind.
Since its release, waterworks unabashedly, every time. Simply THE BEST! Somewhere In Time and It's A Wonderful Life pretty much sum me up. (Also, love good action flicks and 80s teen Rom-Coms.)
Jane Seymour is perpetually stunning. And that voice and accent ❤
She’s so stunningly beautiful.❤
I still cry everytime 😩🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️
This reminds me of the 'Rome, by all means Rome' moment in Roman Holiday when Audrey as the princess delivers her speech to the audience, including the press, at the palace, and stares at Greg Peck when she 'goes off script' from her royal speech to thank him without naming him. I wonder if the filmmakers and/or Richard Matheson who wrote this wonderful story tapped into Roman Holiday or it just came independently like so many similar things do.
Thank you for sharing one of my favorite scenes. "
The man of my dreams is almost faded now.
The one I have created in my mind--The sort of man each woman dreams of in the deepest, most secret reaches of her heart.
I can almost see him now before me.
What would I say to him, if he were really here?
Forgive me.
I've never known this feeling.
I've lived without it ALL my life.
Is it any wonder, then, I failed to recognize you?
You brought it to me for the first time.
Is there any way that, that I can tell you how my life has changed?...any way at all to let you know what SWEETNESS you gave to me...
There is so much to say--I cannot find the WORDS, except these: I love you."
that first line always piqued my interest "almost faded now." The guy is sitting in the fourth row, what are you talking about? But I think I understand now. She's in her mid twenties, she's had at least 10 years to think about it. Just because she's so hot doesn't mean he'll be too.
I remember during an interview when so many actresses had auditioned for the part of Elise.
The producers had asked each one, " Have you ever been in love " ?
Jane Seymour was the only one who said no.
This was how the producers wanted the movie to go with a theme of a young woman who has never known love or romance.
Wowowowo Great behind the scenes info!!! That makes watching it even better!!! Thank you :)
Makes me wonder if the same is true for her today.
@@nikonlover1 it is not true for her today because she fell in love with Christopher Reeves during the making of this movie. They had a romantic relationship until Christopher found out his previous girlfriend was pregnant with his child and he decided to go back to her for the sake of the child. Apparently their chemistry on set was not acted.
@@gregsaracino3252 I never knew that thank you
Thats silly, it doesn’t make any sense
felt her words so crushingly hard
VERY ROMANTIC AND BEAUTIFUL I LOVE THIS MOVIE

RIP. I loved him singing in the Sound Of Music too, and how he softened up with her and became a better man/father. :)

Hella Based for free ballin a love confession in front of everyone in the auditorium. More women shouldn't be afraid to approach men, especially if he is Superman.
I have always loved this underrated movie
A hidden gem of a movie
I love kurt hugo schedier.
John Barry Music 🎶❤😮
I hate romance, but this, this I can get behind. It's viceral, their connection. The chemistry between them, that's real. A couple of show ponies, both in the theatre. She's got the mystery, he's got the yearning. ...I saw a picture of Maud Adams, the inspiration, and definitely there's something distant about her. Jane Seymore's Elise Macenna's portrait is more Mona Lisa.
Theee best!
so cool

Excellent.
What play did they do in the book? Was it the same?
In the book he receives 2 envelopes after their kiss in her room. One with the invitation to "The little minister". The other a love letter, where she writes him how she feels. In the book she doesn't go off script.
❤❤👍👍👏👏👏👍👍❤❤
Such a beautiful scene in a wonderful movie. Both Seymour and Reeves are perfect in their roles.
I only have one question though, the watch that Richard gets from Elise at the beginning of the movie goes back in time with him and she gets it when Richard is sent back forward in time so where did the watch originate if neither Elise or Richard purchased it?
That is the beauty of the mystery. Ironically it is the watch that is timeless.
@@mramone5933 well said
His name was in the sign in book from 1912. Did he live a previous life?
Watch the movie.
This movie is over looked
Jane Seymour’s acting here is great. However it makes no sense why she keeps her British accent; Elise is supposed to be American.
