linda frank Yes...I researched The Von Trapp Family as I got older and realized that "Hollywood did take liberties" in The Sound of Music "story"...I was sad to read about Charmain Carr's passing. We ALL do this Dance of Life ....and after awhile the pain does leave when a loved one dies....BUT...for me personally the sadness is always hanging around just enough to remind me of the loss.....I lift a Glass of Champagne to 16 going on 17 Liesl....Cheers Linda!
Better be glad you're not from that family. You wouldn't get to play. But you'd get to do nothing but march & live in a military-style setting.

Came here today Feb 5 2021, the day Christopher Plummer passed away. This was my favourite scene of the handsome Captain Von Trapp. Rest In Peace!
Same here. I watched Sound Of Music for the first time in 1971, and I it's still my number 1 movie. Rest in peace Christopher Plummer (Capt Von Trapp).

This is for you czcams.com/video/-1gzzXFF2iQ/video.html🤍💙💙
I love this scene. Maria isn't intimidated by the Captain and demands to be treated with respect. It annoys him in the moment, but her inner fire and her unwillingness to take any BS from him is precisely what saves him and his family and makes him fall in love with her. The part where she whistles at him and he turns around and she looks at him like, "Yeah, you don't like it when it's done to you, huh?" makes me laugh every time, and it's one of my favorite exchanges between them.
Also, watching this scene knowing that she apparently started falling for him the first time he blew the whistle is equally hilarious, given how she just stands there with her mouth open XD.
Lol...
I once saw it worded something like when he whistled for the first time, he stood out as a truly unique and unusual MAN to her...
When she sat on the pinecone, and very obviously covered the kids, SHE stood out as a truly unique and unusual woman to HIM.
Also, this whole thing is just wonderful. Been watching it over and over recently...
That's true,but,um,well yeah.🙂😀😊

OH MY GOD!!! Gretel used to kill me every time when she stepped forward then back without saying her name. Too cute!
(*rolling my eyes*) Gretl seems to be *everyone's* favourite Sound of Music child. But me, I always liked Brigitta more than Gretl
SnowbirdFlock I think she's the favorite because she's the youngest. I mean if you watch a movie or a tv show most of the youngest children are the reason why many people watch. I personally love Liesl. I was always attracted to that girl even when I was 10 and first saw it.
SnowbirdFlock I agree!
I like Marta best she seems to be cuter then Gretel even if a bit older and just says what she feels.
Gretl and Liesl are my favs :D
Captain Von Trapp is a real heartthrob. And he has all them kids to prove it

"This is a large house, the grounds are very extensive and I will not have anyone shouting". Uh-huh. I'd rather have ear-piercing, shrill, high-pitched whistles. yeah, that's not aversive at all. Still, I love this movie so much. :-)
I think he means he doesn't want people straining their voices. XD
NoriMori + naughtycursor actually it’s more like he’s a navy man and got used to using and responding to those whistles
Actually, to a navy man, it makes total sense. On a ship, yelling for people is entirely impractical. There's too wide a space and too much going on. The whistle is both loud and easily distinguished, so the commands are easily understood.
900th of \
I got my dad one of these whistles today for his birthday. He’s already making us all sounds (I have 5 other brothers and sister)
I always thought it was so ridiculous that anyone, let alone children, should be able to discern between so many similar whistle calls. Maria made the perfect comeback by attempting to whistle the Captain.
It is an outstanding movie. This movie plus Davy Crockett had gorgeous opening scenes.
Yes,without a doubt!!

There are so many scenes in Sound of Music between Maria and Captain von Trapp that are comically endearing and tenderly romantic. This is one of them and another is Maria's first night at dinner when after she sat on the pine cone. His expressions at Maria's gentle sarcastic speech to the children was comical . I will never tire of watching this movie and this is the umpteenth times. Rest in peace dear Christopher Plummer. You were so wonderfully romantic and an attractive Captain von Trapp.

There are some reasons why this story will last forever. The glare in his eyes when a woman who is a failed nun dared to question a man's instruction, him a decorated navy captain with a huge homestead. However, it was her resistance to his arrogance that led the family to a happier life.
"I will not have anyone shouting"

The Golden Age of Hollywood! Everything about this film is wonderful, the music, the script, the direction, the actors. What a pity that Hollywood is not capable of making films like this today. This movie made me a much kinder person in 2.5 hours. This film made me much kinder, in 2.5 hours, I smiled for 2.5 hours because I was in a good mood. This is surely my favourite film of all time. I must have seen this movie at least 200 times & never get tired of watching it. I first saw it when my mum took me to see it when it first came out in 1965, when I was at boarding school. I even played truant from school just so that I could go & see it again & again. Even at the now age of 61, it still brings me to tears, which is unusual for most men.

I can't believe how Julie Andrews was such a good actress at such a young age, and she has only improved throughout the years.
Julie Andrews was unbelievable in this film! Yet she wins an Oscar for "Mary Poppins"! Such a wonderful talent!
I actually think Mary Poppins is better than Sound of Music
I heard that at first she wasn't sure she WANTED to play in this movie... If I remember correctly she was worried it would be too much like Mary Poppins. I'm so glad she did tho...
She did a fabulous job in Mary Poppins, but IIRC that was the year that My Fair Lady came out on film. Julie had played the female lead, Eliza Dolittle, on Broadway, but Audrey Hepburn was cast as Eliza in the film. Some people have theorized that her Oscar win for Mary Poppins was at least partially out of sympathy for the loss of the role of Eliza.
Was a wonderful moovie
I never tire of this beautiful movie. Even though it was based on a real family it was not quite the truth according to the Von Trapp family. The country they came from is beautiful and I have watched this several times a year over my 75 years and I'm ready to watch it again. RIP Christopher Plummer!
Seen this so many times and only noticed now when the children appear, Julie's shocked face and her nodding as she counts off in surprise the number of children.
She may have been counting b/c she saw the large space between Kurt and Marta and realized one child was missing. The Mother Abbess had previously told her that there were seven children. ("You like children." "Well yes . . . but SEVEN!!!")The whistle and noise of the footsteps, though, could have been a shock to her system.
Great movie.
It's not everyday you see a family of 7 kids.

That was no "nun sect". You can't call the Christian Catholic Church a sect.
Enjoyed this movie when I was very young. Never thought that I faced the same scene when I became a widower in my 40s with 3 young children and was looking at a new relationship. It was so difficult to get a woman into a family with children. Near impossible and it takes a lot of effort to make it work. In one of the scenario I nearly became Brady's bunch re-run.

I love how she calls him Reverend Captain at the start!
Does that simply mean that he is Christian or that he is Christian and highly educated in Christianity...?
I really am not familiar with Christian terminology...
It's like the exchange after Maria and the children topple out of the boat, and Maria reads the Captain the riot act for ignoring the his family:
"I am not finished yet!"
"Oh yes you are Captain ...er...Fraulein!"
I read that that was an unscripted blooper they decided to keep. I wonder if Reverend Captain was also an unplanned flub.
@@noorykorky5056 No. She did that "by mistake", because of being used to repeatedly say that at the Monastery to the Reverend Mother (or Reverend Father every now and then).
