  • A short horror film somewhat inspired by the old Swedish ghost story "Strandvaskaren". Shot and edited in about 10 hours. I have wanted to do some water-based horror ever since we made the Lovecraft inspired short films The Deep Ones and The Deep End years ago. This was the result of my first attempt at that.
Shot at Hagudden by lake Fryken, between Kil and Sunne, Värmland, Sweden.
The water was really, really cold.
We were only three people in the cast/crew, so this falls neatly within the #IsolationFilmMaking challenge.
If you want to join in on the challenge, all you have to do is make a short horror film while social distancing and upload it to CZcams using the hashtag #IsolationFilmMaking.
This isn't a competition, just a fun challenge to distract yourselves with while in isolation.
    Enjoy!

Beautiful view. Slo-mo fall was really great. Under water filming was well done.

Very nicely done. I love the look and the silence to it, it's not just in your face work the horror it was a nice slow build up.

Nice photography I love this bluish and blackish mix

Nice! Though, just my opinion, it would be more creepy to show, how there is a footprints, or water stains, from the ghost walking towards the man. Here at 0:34 and at 0:47. To show us, that there IS something, that we are unable to see. For now...

Great execution of the common fear of being grabbed by something we can't see in deep water.

Fantastic work, I admire the dedication of falling into the lake for those slow mo shots! 😁

@@BrokenFrameProductions In Australia at this time of year, water temperatures are about 25-27C. Will get about 2-3 degrees warmer yet.

Someone posted a link on Reddit, what was the ghost story?

The ghost story I was inspired by bears little resemblance to the finished short film, but it's what got my creative juices flowing for this project. It's called Strandvaskaren, and was also the inspiration for a Swedish horror film of the same name (The Drowning Ghost in English I believe) in the early 2000s. No idea if that film is any good though.
The ghost story itself is an old one though. I haven't read it in years, but it scared me half to death as a child.

      Thanks!
The underwater shots were shot with a GoPro Hero 7, 2,7K linear mode at 60fps, with a maximum ISO of 400.
The slow motion fall was also shot with the GoPro at 240fps

What was the point of that

    • @BrokenFrameProductions

      To entertain.

I get that, but a man just fell into water and drowned. This didn’t have a lot of substance and wasn’t unique. I’m saying this to give feedback so that improvement could be made later on, not to hate.

@@qkat9856 It's fine that you didn't like it of course, but two minute ghost stories don't necessarily need substance or uniqueness. They're meant to entertain and -- in the best of worlds -- give the audience a scare or two.
And for future reference - saying "What was the point of that" is not feedback. It's just rude.
