    The rubber band is a terrific idea for the line roller bearing. I sometimes have to back the screw because it’s tightened at the factory to where the line roller doesn’t roll at all.

      sounds like a faulty design , it should not stop the roller from freely moving back n forth and rolling with the screw tightened all the way ,got me a new reel and noticed my bail was quite stiff opening and closing , i simply loosened the screws on both arms and its smoother now

    *Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

    Here’s a tip for you all. For what you pay for 1oz of reel oil you can get 4oz if sewing machine oil. It does the same thing & lasts.

    That oil you put on the shaft after you took the spool off , the one that goes up and down when you crank the reel by the handle does not get oil it gets a light coat of grease , there’s grease in the gear case , so when it goes up and down it comes in contact with the grease .

    What happens to the old oil inside the reef? Don't you have to wash it off first before re-oiling?

    I would suggest Silicon oil H4000 It's a little viscous but you don't need much and it's perfect for anti-dirt. You get the lowest evaporative loss with silicone oil. Legit space stuff.

    I took apart all my spinners used in salt and greased and oiled them. I don't dunk them but they get their fair share of spray. The worse part of the reels were the line roller berings

      The Line Roller Bearing receives the most salt water.
      Contrary to this video it would be better to rather unscrew the LRB Assembly, clean and oil the parts in there separately.

    bantam oil should comw with every shimano reel from stradics and up.. its impossible to buy in sweden... do abu garcia high preciscon oil work ?

    is this an authentic shimano company channel? are you supposed to oil the main shaft like that? I thought it disengaged the antireverse...

      @@jinsu0504 It is nothing wrong with applying low viscosity oil on the main shaft. Applying grease or oil must be done in accordance to recommended amount. It's like people don't apply crazily amount of grease to gears.

      This is just a basic maintenance with low viscosity Bantam oil.
      For people who is more capable, it is recommended to apply grease to parts that the manufacturers advise okay to.

    Wouldn't oil wash away grease from within bearings? And sea water then wash away oil?
    That happened to me when I was oiling roller after every second trip. It was factory greased, but after few oilings when opened it was wet from water, not grease nor oil.

      Yes it could. In theory people should use grease or grease spray which has better salt water resistance. However it is totally fine to use this low viscosity Bantam, it’s just that you have to apply it more often.

      For the rest of reel, we recommend that you oil it after 2 to 5 fishing trips.

      You can ofcourse. However I would think you should use a medium viscosity oil like LIVRE LA-1

      The rule of thumb is light oiling (as shown in this video) every 2 to 5 fishing trips. And a deep cleaning (usually by a professional) every season/year.

      @ Disassembling the reel, removing the old grease/oil and replacing it with fresh grease/oil. The once a year rule of thumb is for average anglers who are active and who want to maximize the life expectancy of their reel. If you fish very frequently and have invested in a really nice reel that you'd like to live for very long, then doing a deep cleaning more frequently like twice a year would be even better.

      It has low viscosity so I do not think it would be the best choice for heavy game. You should instead use medium viscosity or heat resistant grease IF the manufacturers says it is OK to use.

      Def oil your line roller after each trip to the salt and ever few times in freshwater, make sure the oil actually is applied into the roller bearing and assembly and not just on the outside where the line rolls on.

      I did this regularly with my Daiwa Certate, without any issues.
      Magseal doesnt mean maintenance free!

      Daiwa doesn’t recommend adding any oils to areas that contain their magnetic oils as it can disturb the ferofluid. If your Certate has mag sealed ball bearings and line roller bearing then oils those parts can lead to that mag fluid breaking down, not my opinion this is according to Daiwa.

      Def would recommend against that in the long run. Wd40 is a water displacement solvent. It’s not a lubricant at all, once it dries it really offers no protection or lubrication, in fact it’s just cleaning or breaking down the oil and grease out of whatever it sprays into. Plus, it can weaken your line too

      Don't bother, WD 40 displaces grease, your reel will be sounding and running terribly not long after using WD 40. your better off using a proper oil or even better opening up the reel and applying some dedicated marine grease

    i dropped my vanford in salt water and i’m unsure what to do. i’ve soaked it in fresh water let it dry and then re oiled it is that enough? or should i get a professional to clean it
