It's in German and yes, was a huge hit worldwide. He's singing about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who was considered a rockstar in his time. The word "superstar" doesn't translate so it's in English. Considering no recorded music in the late 1700s, Mozart became famous because of his written music, plays and much later in the recordings who were recorded by other musicians. You were extremely lucky if you actually heard him play. So he was never wealthy as are musicians of today. Falco is honoring Mozart's music in this song. He was composing symphonies at age 3..... a child prodigy. He died at age 34.
And not a single word mentions that both of them are not from Germany but from Austria. Just mentioned that they sing in German to give the impression that they are from Germany, Because in Germany you have nothing but to pretend that world-wide famous people and brands are from Germany. Awkward.
@@lvcq_ Well, to compound the issue, he had Dutch producers 🙂
The story behind this is he was pissed off that Der Kommissar went to number one when after the fire did it in English and his original version didn't hit number one so he said he was going to make a song not in English to hit number one in America and he did exactly that check out Der Kommissar by Falco it's amazing
The modern outfit Falco is wearin is a metaphor for Amadeus being a man who was ahead of his time!
German language song.
Amadeus is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The song's generally about Mozart essentially being the first punk rock star.
Huge hit in the US....#1 for a few weeks if memory serves.
Basically what he is saying is that Mozart was a rockstar in his day. That's why you have modern rock imagery mixed with the old school costumes.
This song came out shortly after the movie Amadeus and was a big hit. There were a lot of popular remixes to this song, but the one that got a lot of radio play also has a lot of English that makes the theme of the song a lot more clear. Here’s a link if you’re interested in checking it out: czcams.com/video/C_joXLJJlwc/video.html
This is a very funky song by Falco who was an Austrian singer & musician. It is about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This was a big hit even though it was in German. He had other hits such as "Der Kommissar", "Vienna Calling", "Jeanny", "The Sound Of Musik", "Coming Home (Jeanny Part II)", "Out Of The Dark".
Another good one is "Junge Römer"
@@iamstevec1656 Or those: czcams.com/video/SRebRHuHJKA/video.html, czcams.com/video/HkQyIh7c8p0/video.html, czcams.com/video/OMrwcix41sY/video.html The last one has a little tribute to the original "Wiener Blut" by Johann Strauss Sohn. The topic in Falco's "Wiener Blut" is about the corruption in the Austrian politics, which where already there in the 1970s with Club 45. There is another band, who have a song with the name "Wiener Blut". It is a German industrial Metal band called Rammstein, if you need it heavy. I am originally from Austria and I like all three (a very odd mixture I know). I am also old enough, that I could experience Falco in Interviews in the 1990s, when I was a teen.
This was a huge hit when I was a kid even though we couldn't understand half of it. We still rocked it at school dances. He's singing in Austrian and English about Wolfgang Amadeus Motzart.
There was another foreign language monster hit which a DJ accidentally played the German version of it instead of the English version and Americans lost their minds over it. It's 99 Luftballons by Nena. I hope you check it out. Do both versions.
Major Tom by Peter Schilling also was played in two languages
The language is German,Austrians speak German.

This was big on MTV back in its heyday, heavy video playing. Back in the day when they would play videos from a number of different genres one after another. Edit: a few years before this song and video came there was a huge movie Amadeus, about Mozart Wolfgang Amadeus life. It was a multi-Oscar winner that a lot of people went to see, so people were quite familiar to Amadeus.
In the early 90s a bunch of radio stations voted this as the best song of the 80s
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an 18th century rock star who lived the life of one. The movie this is from highlights that aspect of him.
Chod & Dee - Do yourselves a favour and watch the movie 'Amadeus'. It had 18 Oscar nominations & won eight, so you can trust it is a good movie well-worth watching! It is a movie about Amadeus Mozart and it very effectively portrays him as like the first rock star. Falco's song plays on the same idea of Mozart as a rock star. The song came out after the movie. Do watch the movie and see how in Mozart's day, classical music was pop music. As someone not really into classical music the movie gave me a much greater appreciation of it.
Amadeus Mozart is one of the most famous classical composers ever .
Mozart , in his day was a rock star in every sense of the word .
Falco is definitely one to get used to especially with the German lyrics. There actually is an english extended version you might try that's different.
Seeing your faces watching this is killing me. Love it you are out of your comfort zone. Credit for playing this
This is how open we were in the 80’s, couldn’t understand a word but we understood the meaning, #1 song. We were a hodge lodge in the 80’s
This is one that's going to make your head move. It's in German, so, I can't help you there. Check out the song "99 Red Baloon's" by NENA. It's in German, but I think there was a cover done in English. It's also very catchy, and you might have already heard it?
The English version wasn't a cover, it was performed by Nena.
Can’t believe you didn’t know the name Amadeus, essentially being in music.
Spring of 1986 this soared to the Top of the American charts at #1 becoming the first #1 song in America entirely in German
I LOVED the singer named FALCO. So, I looked for people reacting to this song. I found you! Thanks. This song, ROCK ME AMADEUS made it to #1 on the charts. It was filmed with the cast of the movie "Amadeus". It was a movie about MOZART. The famous composer of the late 1700's. ( His actual name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) Mozart was so talented, he toured Europe, and played the piano at the tender age of 5. The extras that played all the parts of the people in Austria, at that period of time, were asked to come to be in the video. Falco was born in Austria and speaks German, Mozart was also born in Austria. I enjoyed how kind and how cool you treated this very important time of life, to many of us. This was made in about 1985. The way those people related to each other was all about that era of sexuality and close body contact. No one stared at a cell phone, they stared at each other. It showed how Falco felt very comfortable with the rough bikers, and how much they had his back and liked him, too.
Here is the English translation to this hit song. It's about Mozart : 1st verse: He was a punk and he lived in the biggest city, it was in Vienna where he did everything, he had debts because he drank, but all the women loved him, and all of them shouted "come and rock me Amadeus". He was a superstar, he was popular, he was so exalted, because he had flair, he was a virtuoso, was a rock idol, and everyone shouted "come and rock me Amadeus". . . 2nd verse: It was in 1780 and it was in Vienna, no plastic money anymore, the banks were against him, where his debts came from was well-known by everyone- he was a ladies' man, ladies loved his punk, he was a superstar, he was so popular, he was so exalted, that was exactly his flair, he was a virtuoso, was a rock idol, and everyone still shouts today "come and rock me Amadeus"
--an American Falco fan who speaks German
There are more than one version of Rock Me Amadeus by Falco. This is not the #1 hit version released in the USA. Nor is it the extended 12 inch version. Falco was from Austria but is no longer with us. Try his hit called Vienna Calling and also his hit called Ker Kommissar. The single release for the USA is easier to listen to and the words are more clear. Hear the audio only version.
Use to love Der Kommissar, it was played all the time at my local arcade on the jukebox back in the 80s, still have the 45
R.I.P. Hans 'Falco' Hölzel...ich vermisse dich.
You have to listen his 'scandal song',.. "Jeannie". Awesome..
Greetings and Love from Germany 💚 again
This was the first (only?) German language song to hit the US number 1 spot. He's singing about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Listen closer it is half English half German.
In almost all of Falco"s songs the chorus is in English and the verses are in German.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
He sings some in German and some in English. This song was huge back in the day!
Go after Der Kommisar official video for the definitive Falco tune
The two languages are closely linked. It shouldn't surprise us to hear 'English' words in 'German.' It doesn't surprise us to hear 'German' words in 'English,' (kindergarten, zeitgeist, iceberg, schadenfreude, angst, Neanderthal, wunderkind, uber, etc. etc.).
Yes, Falco is singing in German (apart from the chorus), but with an Austrian accent.
The first time I heard this song, I could swear they were saying, "Hot potatoes, hot potatoes ..." Give it a listen and see.
All about Mozart being the first ever rock star. Falco is Austrian so the song is in German. This was a world wide hit for the same reasons you are bobbing your heads it's catchy as hell.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a genius and composed more than 800 works which is unbelievable when you realise he was only 35 when he died.
Its the most popular Musican from Austria (i live in the same city he lived) Vienna
Imho He’s the most popular musician, period. Everyone has heard his music at some point in their life - most of the time without even knowing - be it in a concert, a child song, a commercial or even in recent pop songs sampling/retaking his tunes. Tbh he wrote so much music over just a few decades he’s difficult to avoid:-)
@@tixien i know he took too much kokain bc of the stress he had on the big production so he diet bc of that, its very sad
ama dayus lol I HAVE HEARD THIS SONG A MILLION AND ONE TIMES :D
He has an English version, check it out.
you should check out a lyric video to find out what he is saying and the context he is singing about mozart.
It is about Amadeus Mozart. The song is in German. It was a Billboart nr. 1 hit.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart became very popular due to a very popular movie about him that came out about this time. And I’m a Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was quite the character back in the day, and the story in the movie revolves around another composer, his rival who hated him. He hated him for his talent his womanizing, his sense of humor, not the kind of behavior. One would expect from a time-honored composer who did his work in the mid 1700s too late 1700s. You have heard many of his compositions at least parts of them.
Movie 1984 rock me Amadeus, 1985.
Falco ... G.O.A.T! Thank you! R.I.P.
The look on your faces was great!!!! We did have some weird music in the 80s that you would end up singing !!! LOL 😝
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart…the rock star of his time!
“Dr Zaius, Dr Zaius, oh oh oh Dr Zaius” 🦧🦧🦧🦧🦧
Earlier Falco was bass guitar Player in a weird, crazy but cool austrian Band, search for "Drahdiwaberl mad cat sadie"
Falco was inspired by the success of the film "Amadeus" by Milos Forman, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1984, and at the same time he paid tribute to his compatriot Wolfgang Amedus Mozart, perhaps the most famous composer along with Beethoven. . Watch the movie, it's worth it, its two main actors shared the nomination for Best Actor.
It's got a good beat and you can dance to it. If you get it you are old. Lol! ✌
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, my friend. This was real big in the eighties, even in the UK. Maybe check out "Opus", "Live is life"?
Ah-muh-day-us! Last name Mozart!🙄😂❤️✌️
Falco - Kommissar another great hit check it out
Falco was mixing German and English in all of his songs. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the first child prodigy, wrote operas as a kid, was the first music superstar, and died at age 35 as probably the biggest musician in history.
As a speaker two Germanic languages; I not only understand at least "the gist" of the lyrics; most reaction videos make me think of, how English, and other Germanic speach must sound to others.
Amadeus son Colin Mozart became a rat catcher. Falco had a huge number one single all over the world with this in 1986, but sadly passed away when his car collided with a bus in 1998.
The lyrics are a hommage to the world famous classical Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his expensive lifestyle, which left him in constant debt. His lifestyle bounced back and forth between punk and rapper. (If you never heard his music, check him out, he left a ton of music that still inspires musicians today, many of his tunes have been sampled in modern music and the tune for "twinkle, twinkle, little star" is also taken from one of his pieces!)
Falco was originally Austrian, his songs are mostly sung in German, but he was never afraid to use English phrases, as is common today... But in the 80s, this guy was something special, he was something of a visionary, and in fact, he was the first rap singer in the history of pop music
The 411? When we still had phones and had to dial for information?😂😂
The song is basically saying that classical composer Mozart was the musical superstar of his day. He was a child prodigy and was considered outlandish for the time
Hahahahaha..Ya'lls faces are priceless!..Love it!
English Version went to #1 in Jan 1986. The German is my favorite still
Guess the song is more fun if you can follow the german and english. When i hear this song it always reminds me to watch "Amadeus" the movie if you have not seen it you should even if its not 100% a true story it tries to somehow show what a genius he as and why he would be a rockstar today... Its fun to consider what some old artist would make today with the tools we have.
Phaaaaaaaa ya'll faces LOL! Ya'll were mind blown! LOL Both of you had the same look! He's speaking pure English with accent!
Falco was absolutely genius. One third of this song is German, one third Englisch and the last third are just noises you might make when you have a stroke. But he makes an absolute masterpiece out of it.
Well the Movie was good as well as Mozart himself, a genius. Also, EVH's son is named after the subject of this video, so there's that..
There's an English version too
Please watch the movie Amadeus. It is an artistic take on the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It may mke some of Falco's interpretation clearer. As mentioned in the comments earlier, there is an English version. Also try Falco's Der Kommisar. Deutsch and English versions exist. Alles Klar?
It's tricky, with some English mixed in with German. Der Kommissar, has the original German (Deutsch) version, and an English version. I don't know if this has an English version.
I never complain or tease people for mispronouncing a word or name; It usually means they learned it from reading, which is always a good thing.
Your faces are priceless Ib the video 😂
I love this song I bought this back in 80s on 12 inch ❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧😊😊
Your expressions are priceless...in a good way!!
This will get stuck in your head.
Was given this album for my birthday back then. Very popular. Had the English version.
Lord have mercy y'all really sharing a single brain cell
THERE IS AN ENGLISH VERSION ON CZcams.
If you haven't already, you need to watch or react to the English version! Y'all are great!!! Much love!! 🎸🎶💕🎵🎷💖
This version of the song is in German and English and at one point this song was insanely popular I mean it was on top of the world!
Mozart was a rock star in his day…centuries ago…..
Look for the English version. This was the German version.
Austrian life as they mix English,German,French and a few other core languages.
i thank you ....
3:58 perfect pause.
It's pronounced Om-A-DAY-US, as in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This song was a huge hit (sung in German and English), but the version better known in the USA would probably be by the band: After The Fire (that one entirely in English).
Great song!
It's like the father of Rammstein.😂❤️
There is an English version of this, but the German was more popular here in the US just like Nena's "99 Luft Balloons". What few English words you hear is because they don't translate in German. Falco was from Austria and very popular in Europe until his untimely death in a car accident. You really need to check out the movie "Amadeus".
This is a very 80's song. Reminds me of high school.
can you do a reaction to Mongrel by Bob Seger System
There's also an English version.
Once you hear it, that’s enough.
Many versions of this song .... basically Mozart was a 'music god' -so he's saying Mozart was celebrated in those days as to how we celebrate current rock stars. Austrian singer - died tragically but great artist and this song was huge all over the world. Was top of the US charts but slightly different version.
80's monster hit!
Mozart, baby. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And if you’re going to consider him, I like you instantly. Get down.
AH-MA-DAY-US lol
Big hit ❤️ Mozart❤️ helped to be smoking too.🤗🥳
Amadeus mozarts middle name
If you want to confuse African-Americans just show them anything from Europe. Loved it!
If you like the German Accent... Try:Null positiv - wo Rauch ist, ist auch Feuer,,... (great female voice.. //
Loved this when it came out, just the right amount of quirky to keep it interesting!! You got to like a song about classical pianist and child prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.🙂
I remember hating this song when I first heard it and my opinion has not changed. 😮✌️
