Hello young man. I am an older Alaskan Trapper who spent over twenty years living in Bettles/Evansville at the edge of the Brooks Range. I have been to Venetie a few years ago and know that you have some beautiful country there. I bumped into your channel and appreciated your sharing your trapping culture. God bless you and keep you safe as you travel through the beauty He has made. Dave S

Hi Frank! Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard. Trapping will start in December so I hope you enjoy the last 2 years of trapping on my channel. Thanks and have a great day!
Moon Shadow, great song by Cat Stevens. Have you thought about putting pans on a few of your coni bear traps that you have set for martins? They can sometimes make a big difference. Less chance of something slipping between the triggers. Keep the videos coming, I'm having a great time watching.
Yeah I think I’ll order some of those pans and try it out. But the conibears in the video are a little to big for marten. But next time out I’ll take the smaller conibears
@@kencaudle7802 haha now that would be something! I hope the prices hold. I grew up listening to stories of 800$ lynx and 1000 blue and black fox. Sad to say but I hope some rich dude out there finds out about the renewable resource that is wild fur. Someone that could bring attention to it in a good way
@@shaneseaford4824 yeah most likely those animals. I tried different baits and lures but the best for me is plain red meat, moose/caribou/lynx. The bigger the chunk of meat the lower the refusal rate has been for my sets. Up to a point though, I wouldn’t use a chunk bigger than half of a 2 litter soda bottle or it might go to waste
I thought it was a good idea when I trolled for wolves along my trail, I think more back country trappers could benefit from that practice to attract critters.
Like you videos bro. Lot of information. I'm from way down river. Im going to put out a trap line this year hoping to get some action too. I plan on making some videos also.
Awesome! Get ahold of any traps or snares you can find and put them out. Getting them out there is a big part of trapping, then figure out how to catch them. Thanks for watching, if you have any questions let me know. I’ll be doing a lot more instructional videos this coming season. Thanks for watching and good luck
@enigmaticgwichin1630 who do you get the sled from? That's one thing I'm missing I need to get one with higher walls or longer one. I have a wood sled thinking about getting a big otter
@@JesseJo907 this sled is from northern sled works it’s in Fairbanks or north pole. I’ve had a couple of those otter sleds but this sled is at a whole different level of quality. The UHMW plastic is almost unbreakable, they cost at least a thousand dollars but will outlast 3-4 otter sleds

Yeah we really are close, last fall we went 125 miles upriver on our moose hunt. There were caribou crossing right above smoke creek. But we got a bull moose above there
Congratulations on a great catch. You have such a great attitude toward your trapping , I really enjoy that. When you throw out your bait , is it in an area where your sets are located ? I live in Montana , and trap some Wolf and Coyote.
Thanks gotta have a good attitude, makes life much more enjoyable. Some of the bait is thrown into set locations but most is thrown into areas with no traps. I do that so animals get used to eating the bait with no traps around so when they walk up to a real set they don’t think anything about it. Cool! I worked with a bunch of Missoula smoke jumpers a few years ago. Montana sure sounded nice. Thanks for watching have a good one
On ur woof snares if you put just a bit of a kink in cable with loop opening around 18 inches. It will keep snares from closing when wind or a lynk bumps them. Right in front of the lock. Old guy's trick that can save missing the vermin. Woofs are big and generally really moveun. Dont keep snares from closeun just keeps them ready 4 action
I remember doing that when I first started wolf trapping so I could have a perfect circle on my snares. But yeah I got a couple spots where lynx are always bumping into my snares and I have to pick up or move I’ll do that. I screenshot this tip to add to the Ken Tips album
Great job!!! Love the drag technique!! What was the weight on the wolverines?? It’s beautiful up there!!!! I still don’t know how you guys don’t get freaking lost at night!!! Lol. I guess you just know the trail systems..
Good night on the line for you my man. What did the wolverine end up weighing. Make sure u tell us at the beginning of your next video. Ty for ur hard work putting the video together so we can come along on the ride with you.
Thanks. Yeah my scale didn’t want to cooperate. I think I can get ahold of a bagage scale and I’ll make sure to add it to the next video. I filmed my next trap check today and I have the first part of my fall moose hunt video almost ready to upload. Thanks for watching👍
..Another awesome day on the line. How come you don't like to use fish as bait in some areas? I would have thought that fish would be the best where ever you trap. ..
Yeah great day out there. I only use fish near the river anywhere else it’s like they know that it should not be there. Same way with duck meat sometimes animals won’t go near it. Very smart animals
The price wildly varies. The market I sell to is created by the furbuyer so it’s what he needs is what pays the best. But wolverine are the most stable at between 200-400$ a piece. Wolves can be anywhere 0-500$ depending on color and length. Thanks for asking

I trapped coyotes for many years down here, and so admire your ability to make the most of every situation that you encounter!! A great day for sure, what a nice catch. Good luck and many more great videos from your neck of the woods!!
Cool! It’s awesome I can get my videos out there for other trappers to see. I’ve only ever caught one coyote up here a couple years ago. I see at least one set of coyote tracks every winter. Yeah I try my best out there for sure. I’ll be putting up trapping videos once a week for over a month. Have a good one
Hi thanks for subscribing. I don’t have much, I’ve been a bit worried to put to much of that out there. CZcams doesn’t like blood. So this upcoming season I’ll start another channel where I can post skinning and butchering. Sorry about that, I have had a lot of questions asked about the skinning process so I’ll be sure to put together at least a video on each types of animal I trap. Thanks for watching. Have a great day
About 25 miles. Once or twice a week. This it the shortest line I’ve run in 5 years. But I’ve gone after wolves a lot harder and it’s been paying off so far
There are a couple but they have their spots. By that I mean they don’t really run a line but they’ll have a couple set locations that pay off so year after year they keep them up. But when I was a kid in the 90s is felt like every trail leading away from the village had a different guy trapping it. I’m related to most of the guys that trapped here so when I started trapping again I was able to absorb a good amount of area
Put a bunch fish in jars this summer bury um part way in ground. Best marten bait. Add some salt so dont freeze in jars so can scoop it out when really cold
Heck yeah that sounds good. I have a friend that swears by silver salmon. I found my 110 conibears and marten boxes. So on the next check I’ll be setting those up and I have a couple king salmon heads and wild blueberries for the bait.
Yeah for the fur but mostly to carry on my peoples culture and tradition that has been alive for tens of thousands of years. There really is not much if any money in it anymore which is a shame because it is more of a renewable product than anything made from petroleum products like polyester and nylon. Thanks for asking

I guess i was thrown off by the prelude and the daylight , lol , i started wondering why you were trapping in the dark , lol , because it is dark in the prime trapping months .
Keep up with the dream , when young folks get a shout out you know you're doing it right ....
Haha yeah I’m usually busy in the mornings and by the time I make it home it has been dark for 5-6 hours. Super bright headlamp helps out a bunch. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a good one
Really good video. You could put a plyboard box cubby or make one out of logs where they're stealing out the back.
Thanks. I caught 2 marten today that were stealing from me. I used to use other sets but I would get refusals quite often till I changed them to the setup in the video now. I’ve heard of a few people south of me have good luck with sets made of logs or poles. Thanks for the input👍
Wicked job bud 👊
Thanks dude! I’ve caught 7 lynx in one check before but this one was awesome.
great video, great catches! What a night! That wolverine is one of the biggest I've ever seen taken and the first wolverine, talk about taking an instant nap! Keep up the good work...we gotta get you to 2K subscribers
Yeah one awesome check! Glad I got it on video to share. Thanks for the support! It’s much appreciated. A lot more videos to come. My wife just finished editing the first part of my moose hunt from this fall. Great footage but I wasn’t practiced up on the commentary side. Hopefully drop the video in a couple days
So how much did that bad ass Wolverine weigh? I love your channel and the way you talk to us with your kind voice. We need more people like you in this world!!
Ah man my scale was acting up. But I’ll make sure to weigh it before I skin it. Thanks for the encouragement! Gotta be strong but kind. Thanks for watching!
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Can u eat wolverine meat?
@@chairlesnicol672 I have not, but they will eat carrion so I don’t know anybody that will eat it. During times of starvation predators are eaten. Lord willing we won’t have to see that in our lifetime
Last night otter cat asked if I've watched any of your trapping videos. Now i can say that i have
Awesome! Welcome aboard! Yeah I have a few videos out there, hope you enjoy👋
Awesome stuff brother, just found your channel and subbed 👍👍, I’m in central Alberta and I don’t have marten or wolverine around, we get wolves every once in awhile so I love watching other guys trapping them! Good luck this season
Hi Frank! Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard. Trapping will start in December so I hope you enjoy the last 2 years of trapping on my channel. Thanks and have a great day!
Love seeing your efforts come to fruition!! Don't let up, stay on them.
Les from Eastern Oregon.
Thank you sir! Will do 🫡. Thanks for watching
Always thumbs up 👍
Appreciate it dude
Congratulations on the fine catches. 👍👍
Thanks! Great trap check. Got another today
Beautiful animals, congratulations.
Congrats on the catches. Stay safe and keep catching.
Thanks. Will do. I’m heading back out on the line today so we’ll see what else we caught. Have a good one
Right on dude
Awesome animals out there
Great night keep it going
Thanks will do. Have a good one
The dogs bedding is absolutely perfect for woofs bury some bait chunks. Called straw set
I’ve seen those sets online but haven’t tried yet. I’ll add it to the list of sets to put together. Thanks
I got a fur fish and duck magazine 2day fur prices are s little better. Can probly buy a condominium on the beach in Hawaii. For 2 marten pelts
@@kencaudle7802 haha now that would be something! I hope the prices hold. I grew up listening to stories of 800$ lynx and 1000 blue and black fox. Sad to say but I hope some rich dude out there finds out about the renewable resource that is wild fur. Someone that could bring attention to it in a good way
Only beaver worth anything is located below the belly button
@@kencaudle7802 lol. Haha
Hello from Maine, USA
Hi! Welcome to the channel. Hope you enjoy the content. Have a great day!
Enjoy your videos we only have a few wolverine in are area down here in southeast Alaska im going to try for them next season
👍Glad you liked the video! Get some 330 conibears and watch some videos. Also find out what they are eating in your area and use that for bait
Ty im not sure what they eat we have very few not sure if they eat deer, Ptarmigan ,Grouse or whatever they can catch im sure
Yeah that along with a lot of bait tossed out along the line has done me well. Thanks for watching
Great video
Thanks. Glad it turned out well👍
Sweet run man
Heck yeah one of the best for sure. Editing the next trapping video
Just Shared You Out My Brother!
Thanks! By the way my name is Gary Simple Jr
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Yes Sir! I'm Johnny, Hilda's Husband. We know your parents. Your mom just sent me chicken dya' for composting. I hope I said that right lol. Your dad has prayed for us numerous times, So Very cool to meet you. Especially here on CZcams, We live so close to one another.
@@alaskansonthefly2737 cool! Nice to meet you jyaa! Small world online, yeah my parents are great. I’m glad they’ve been a blessing to so many people. Make sure to keep them in your prayers they spend all their time taking care of other people they don’t spend enough time taking care of themselves.
Congratulations from Nuiqsut Alaska
Hey thanks! How’s your winter been so far?
Our winter is been low snow for how many years now about a foot or less still can see tundra
Sure is nice to see,congrats
Thanks! It sure is
Good job brother.
Oh yeah! Great day out there. Have a good one
Started my first year trapping 🙌🙌💪💪
Nice! How is it goin?
Awesome just set up my first wolf set as well my first muskrat set super excited!
Well done
👍 great day out there
Great job!!! Love the drag technique!! What was the weight on the wolverines?? It’s beautiful up there!!!! I still don’t know how you guys don’t get freaking lost at night!!! Lol. I guess you just know the trail systems..
Thanks! Yeah draggin has definitely helped. On the mountains while it’s snowing is the hard one.. powerful headlight help alot
Nice wolverine
Thanks, the big one had some really long thick fur but the smaller one had supper glossy fur. Both awesome in different ways. Thanks For watching
Your welcome thanks for having all of us following along with you
Good night on the line for you my man.
If you don’t mind me asking, what would a haul like that on average earn you? I assume Wolverine are your big buck furs!
The price wildly varies. The market I sell to is created by the furbuyer so it’s what he needs is what pays the best. But wolverine are the most stable at between 200-400$ a piece. Wolves can be anywhere 0-500$ depending on color and length. Thanks for asking
Full blooded ojibway who was born on rez in northern Ontario but grew up in Toronto. I have never beenn hunting or set a trap. keep those traditions alive. All.my relations
Right on! Ah man it’s not too late to pick up a rifle a few traps and find some wilderness. Thanks for watching bro🫡. I’ll keep going as long as I can
14:46 Bang!

Check out my moose hunt I dropped 2 weeks ago. Over 50 thousand views
Should put another tap on that one where it's always getting stolen put tap on each side of the cubby
I checked my traps today and caught two culprits but it looks like there is still at least one more. But yeah I added a few more. Thanks for watching👍
Old trapper here in the lower 48, love your ingenuity, and thought process on these predators!
New subscriber here,do you have any videos of putting up the fur?
Would like to see how you skin out the feet and the like
Hi thanks for subscribing. Have a great day
Nice ! How long is your line and how often do you run it ! Thanks !
About 25 miles. Once or twice a week. This it the shortest line I’ve run in 5 years. But I’ve gone after wolves a lot harder and it’s been paying off so far
Hello, I'm looking to purchase a wolverine to have a full mount done. Could I possibly get one from you?
Very fun video. Action packed. Easy to follow. Very enjoyable. Do you have contact info, like an email?
Thanks I’m glad you liked it. I’ll hit you up later with an email. I’m headed out on my Trapline right now.
Watch out for Dogman and Bigfoot 😮😮 hope your armed !!
Oh yeah gotta be armed up out here👍
Jeff from PA here, Does anyone else trap in your area??
I've seen 110s that marten were still alive. If you have some junk 1s add a spring 2 other side. Or make 1 out of 2 120
@@kencaudle7802 I have a dozen 120s but I’d have to modify my boxes. I could do that but it wouldn’t be for a week or two.l
All u have 2 do is cut a notch 4 other spring just take couple minutes per box. Trap a same size
Actually its better 2 not notch box 2 far. You want springs 2 hit and push jaws back. Both sides need 2 b same depth
There's lots 15 year old kids fly. Just get it started head up
Heck yeah would be great to start flying early
What do you trap them for ? Their fur ?
Yeah for the fur but mostly to carry on my peoples culture and tradition that has been alive for tens of thousands of years. There really is not much if any money in it anymore which is a shame because it is more of a renewable product than anything made from petroleum products like polyester and nylon. Thanks for asking
How heavy was ur wolverine?
This one was right around d 30lbs. It was a large wolverine but wasn’t a hugely heavy one. Thanks for watching
