I’m obsessed with this movie. You discover it at different levels, like an onion, peeling away a layer at a time. Greater understanding each time. How would I have survived the war, opportunistic, complied with authority, run guns to Ethiopia? Hide Jews in my home. I think of this often and hope I will be brave.
In Chicago I ride the El (subway) and anytime I see a woman in a hijab I try to sit close to her. I want her to know I am an ally and won’t let het get harassed. I’m not the only one, there are plenty of us who do this.

That's very true, but equally we can get so familiar with 'Casablanca' that we no longer see it in a 'fresh' way. I meant that we see the story's path as inevitable and we can fail to appreciate some aspects/possibilities. That's commendable what you do on the subway. Well done.

Yes, you(re right on "casablanca"... Concerning the woman with a hijab though, may i tell you that the problem is a little different.. For instance, here in France, when a majority of women wear a hijab in a precise neighborhood, , those who don't wear it are often mollested and insulted, and it seems that no woman wearing a hijab are coming for a help... Look what happen in Iran, and other countries... This hijab issue is a very difficult problem and cannot be compared with what happens in "Casablanca" during the Nazi's domination. It even may be the contrary.. as this obligation to wear a hijab for women is closest to some dictatorial regime than to a liberal one...

Well thanks for the Virtue Signaling. It's always open season on JEWS in the USA and the WORLD. Maybe you should just sit where you arrive in the train car. Or perhaps say something about the vicious attacks by Blacks in NYC and Arabs in the homeland of the Jews ( Judea& Samaria), and seemingly the whole world historically on the Jews as scapegoat.
I call BS. If you tried to seat next to a woman in an Arab country like Saudi Arabia, you be lucky to only be beaten and jailed. Such Victims? Oh those poor downtrodden Hijab wearing women, especially the ones who volunteered to go and fight for ISIS. It takes all kinds.
You can't tell the truth about a person from their Hijab, nor the color of their skin, nor their religion. But Thanks; Thanks so much for you deeply felt Virtue Signaling. BTW, the US entered the war very very late, they turned away thousand of Jews attempting to escape, refused visas, didn't bomb the railways to death camps, ad nauseum.
The movie you are watching was from two Jewish play-writers who had their script adapted by two Jewish brothers (for Jack Warner) : the Epsteins, and a third Jew, Koch. But I'll always remember, the USA could have saved millions and they did nothing for years." What are the Jews to us?" Nice sentiment. If you obsessed read "We'll Always Have Casablanca- Written by yet another Jew, Noah Isenberg.
