Yeah, he had a lot more power and control back in the day, like any young talented singer. He just pushed his voice too much and didn't care for it properly, getting things like cortisone injections to power through the inflammation and damage he was causing. Lots of people like to site that food poisoning incident as the thing that "ruined" him, but it sounded like he was heading to a rupture anyway and that just happened to be the tipping point, which could just as easily have happened on stage or rehearsal.
Julien Valois Dobbie listen to a cd on an older Sony cd/dvd with good speakers. It might be my ancient Sony but this song isn’t compressed in that system.

@@DreiK96 Lots of songs end up on albums in that same manner. Lots of great artistic moments happen by "accident". I don't consider Space-Dye Vest to be the best song on Awake but it's great, thankfully Kevin pushed for it. Awake has depth and layers to it that modern DT albums can only dream of having. But to each their own, there are no *rules* when it comes to music preference
People usually dislike Labrie these days, but back in 90's, he was really one of the best singers around.
I heard them live 5 months ago, and Labrie was amazing.
Totally I'm just revisiting Awake and realising how good he was in this midrange area of his voice.
He is STILL the best!
