Shocking Boat Crash at Major Fishing Event

  • Four professional bass fishing anglers are lucky to be alive because of a massive boat crash on Lake Apopka during the Major League Fishing Toyota Series on the Harris Chain. Two boats with two anglers on each boat decided they were above the law and ran wide open in no wake zones to get to their fishing spot and end up running over each other. Luckily, these anglers were not badly injured but this could have been the worse case scenario for these anglers who were not smart.

    This is more than just cheating. They intentionally broke posted safety regulations. This is 100% akin to driving your truck 80mph in a 40mph zone and smashing into something; driving to endanger. Boat operators licenses suspended for at least a year and must pass safety course to have them reinstated. Toss a $500.00 environmental fine on top of that and whatever the tournament directors want to toss in regarding fishing. Gotta put a stop to this stupidity.

    they'll probably try to use their boat insurance to pay for it. The lake authority should review the incident to prosecute this as reckless boating and send a message. They should be banned from whatever tournament group they are with to get them gone.

      I saw a video of accident earlier this year of college tournament were it was foggy and boat running full throttle in the fog took out another boat .
      The kid in the boat was killed.
      The fact these boats have 150hp motor and above is a debate in itself.. but to rely solely on a nav chart in the fog to run at 50mph is criminal
      As seen here it is a wake zone. Visibility is not the greatest and the channel is series of turns . And this guy had no safety concerns whatsoever
      Now no one was killed but what I would like to have heard is his explanation to cops and his insurance company. On how you run over a boat in a wake zone

I’ve told him I’d never ask him to link with me again after what happened at Harris chain. The guy in the boat on top had 5lbs of fish, so you are willing to risk it all for 5lbs? As crazy as it sounds, basically the same thing happened to me! July 4, 1990 on Lake Gladewater in East Texas, my wife and I were parked, 24 feet from a large boathouse. A “prominent” individual with 4 children in the boat with him struck my boat at enough speed to pull another child on a knee board. Fortunately, he struck my boat from directly behind me hitting the boat motor with such speed that pieces of his hull was inside the internal structure of my boat motor! The cowling was off my motor when he struck my boat. Long story short version is 1) he was the lone adult in his boat 2) he had no spotter for the kid on the knee board 3) none of the children were injured 4) my wife and I both live with disabilities 34 years later 5) he lied to law enforcement and told them that I entered his lane and they believed him until the game warden he lied to came to give me a citation and I showed him the motor with the fiberglass hull inside the motor and finally 6) because of his status in the community he wasn’t cited or arrested for being intoxicated while operating a boat!! I know EXACTLY how the guy in your video that was injured feels because he pinned me to the floor of my boat with the hull of his boat!!!

There should really truly be some speed limits with these bows. I hate rules and things like that, but I just don't see any common sense when I'm on the water. As someone who has spent years trying to inform people about the pole and troll rules in areas where I fish, I can tell you that 80% of people just don't care. They get angry and belligerent instead of being willing to understand and learn. There is a blatant lack of knowledge about boating laws and why PnT and idle zones exist, and the excuse I hear most often is "I'm just doing what I see everyone else doing". Sadly, it's the pros who are the worst, guides especially, who darn well know the rules better than anyone and have the most reason to obey them, yet many still choose to break the law and get really upset if you call them out on it. The only way this mindset is going to change is through law enforcement. There needs to be a much larger presence on the water around these areas, because the angling community just isn't going to police themselves.

    I fished local, state and open tournaments for 20+ years. I’m familiar with no wake zones in fresh and saltwater areas. Even with no tournaments people push the rules or are just ignorant of the rules. Regardless, every sport has cheaters and bass fishing has always had issues with cheating because it’s hard to police, especially on local tournaments. Most people understand the rules and know how to push things in their favor….its nothing new.
    I have seen guys fishing in no fishing areas, running no wake zones, getting information, operating the boat’s in an unsafe manner around others, keeping too many fish or tossing out a dead one for a live one to avoid the dead fish penalty. I have watched people hole sitting (I was fun fishing but heard them) and even though I can’t prove it I have seen fish brought in to a weigh in that looked beat up as if they have been in a cage for a bit.
    I have asked for fish to be measured that were not mine because I thought they were short at the weigh ins and several were. As a tournament director I measured every fish that was within an inch or two of being legal just for the sake of proving that no cheating would take place with me or around anything I helped run. Again, self policing and buddies policing each other will always bring an element of cheating or unsafe behaviors.
    If anyone fishes the Kissimmee chain and likes to run the pig trail to North Cove you prolly have seen some dangerous moves there. I have and almost had a Gambler boat on top of us one time. I have had boats graze my boat trying to get to the ramp by the weight in time and miscellaneous other things. It’s all about the money and bragging rights with the tournaments. I loved it when I did fish them but don’t miss the nagging thoughts of someone cheating after seeing or thinking something was wrong with their actions. Now I just fish and it’s just more fun to me.

    Not only should the be cut loose I believe a significant fine should be issued.
    I believe you are partially correct with the reasoning of the accident. Unfortunately ego plays a big part in alot of things. I'm not saying being confident is a bad thing but at can get rather grotesque.
    That's also when dumb shit happens.
    These high tech bass boats do have gps tracking I cannot fathom why the tournament heads and water patrol have not used this just out of sheer safety.
    If the gps says you was skinning her back in a NO WAKE ZONE, immediate tournament disqualification.

Thats common sense, you can't or shouldn't go that fast in a narrow canal. No different on the road. The speed limit on the says 55. But the guy in the porche does 140. If they could have quad motors, and do 110 knots. they would, just because. Is it smart, no. So you get what you get. Its not the rules, its not the laws, or maybe the restriction on the tournament. Was this accident reported after it happened. You should be even more harsh and they should be punished and charged accordingly. Don’t apologize for your passion for our sport

    I would report it, and on the other hand they will give you a bad reputation in the division you fish. I did Toyota Series for two years and I had very nice boaters but there are some bad ones and they do blame co-anglers if it doesn't go right for them. I'm not happy that they got a one year suspension from all MLF tournaments. I fell they should have been banned from MLF for causing a very bad situation or possibly kill someone.

    • @GetUrFishOn
      @GetUrFishOn  Před 5 měsíci

      The co should report it even though it will cause them grief. It's really a form of cheating, and gives the other anglers a bad name at times. Cheers and tight lines!!

    Boats with more than 100 HP should be band why do you need to go 80 or 90 mph on water

    • @GetUrFishOn
      @GetUrFishOn  Před 4 měsíci

      Not a bad idea, but that motor $$ is HEAVY for the anglers and organizations. I had a 40hp and I thought it was perfect. Cheers and tight lines!

    I’d say he guy driving the boat that ran over the other guy is definitely gone. Being they were talking about this both drivers should be gone. The CO anglers maybe not. They have no control what the other two idiots are doing other than to speak up.

    Okay I gotta rewatch this because my kids were trying to talk while watching. These fools both hotrodded a no wake zone and both crashed into each other?

    The co Angler does have a say if boater brakes the rule he is to report it . But most don't because they also lost there fish for that day. I've fished a few there I was in the back of a 5 mile hour cove and had guys blow right in when they seen me they left I said something to the tournament director there was two boats the same way and because I didn't know which boat it was they just reminded everyone not to speed in no wake zones. I've fished lots of tournaments and might have only seen 10 guys breaking a rule.

    • @GetUrFishOn
      @GetUrFishOn  Před 4 měsíci

      That's good. I know the co's probably knew it was wrong, but didn't want the hassle with reporting em. They don't want to publicity of calling out someone IMO. Cheers and tight lines!

    The same stupidity is happening on the roads too . Everyone's in a hurry . " Many shall run to and fro , and knowledge shall increase . " You'll notice it didn't say " Wisdom " - High tech , super smart , intelligent idiots with no common sense . That quote is from the book of Daniel , a must read , a long with Revelation , to see where we stand in history . Idiocracy at large .

    Thank you so much for exposing these cheating morons. This is why I hate bass tournaments. I have been bass fishing for over 60 years and have never participated in a tournament and never will. A lot of people in tournaments think they are above the rules and can do whatever they want.

    • @GetUrFishOn
      @GetUrFishOn  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't fish tournaments because I do not want to take the fun out of fishing for me. These guys received a one year suspension which is nothing IMO. Cheers and tight lines!!
