Amazing tutotrial, thank you! Just a small tip: as you mentioned, when retiming an audio clip it gets distorted. That is because by default FCPX will remain the pitch. You can change that in the retiming menu. Especially for slow motion sound design thats incredibly usefull.

Love all your tutorials and have learned much - thank you, Dylan! Haven't finished watching this one yet, but I'm assuming your suggestion to listen with headphones is in order to appreciate the subtle effects you'll be demonstrating. My experience with editing while wearing headphones is that the resulting sound is not ideal for playback on a laptop, which is how most of our viewers see our videos. I'll be curious to learn what your experience has been and how a filmmaker can optimize audio for the best result in real-world environments. Keep up the great work...!

So much good info! thanks! one trick I use with reverb is at the end of the audio clip I put a hold (shift+H) then add a reverb effect. Key frame the strength of the reverb accordingly to your taste.

I just want to say that this video is amazing and extremely helpful! I am an aspiring composer and I have recently found a new passion for the more bizarre side of music with found sound, sound design based on nature sounds, and just stacking and layering everyday sounds to pair with visuals. CZcams suggested this video to me and I must say, I’ve already played it twice because I never knew there was so much one could do with audio in Finalcut, it’s almost like a DAW in itself! I’m going to be following along to this tutorial step by step and probably creating dozens of projects just with what I learned in this one video for months on end. Thanks for breaking it down to make it understandable for a complete beginner in editing!

I just bought a new MBP with FCPX and I am so lost. LOL. I did edit a video by playing around with it, but now I am stuck. I've been trying to find a tutorial which is truly a beginner, beginners FCPX tutorial on CZcams but to no avail. Once I get it down, I will return to this video to create amazing sound for my videos. I created a Dylan John playlist so I can refer to it at another time. I subscribed also! Dylan John Hi Dylan! Thank you for the response! I would love to see a tutorial that shows what to do once you insert SD card into MacBook and every step after that. Download video into a folder, create a project, create the event. I’m talking a tutorial that would explain FCPX as if I never edited anything EVER!!! I find that most of the so-called videos say they are for beginners but they clearly are not. I had FCPX installed on my MBP so I would not have to go out side to pay someone to edit for me. I have a ton of content to film and I would love to add edits to really make it POP!!! If you create something like that (I know there is a lot to learn in FCPX), but if I could get the better than basics, I could play around with it to learn the rest. Hi Dylan! I am in the FCPX FB Group and I saw your post. I came to check out your video because I think it will be helpful in the future. You were clear and concise. I just bought a new MBP with FCPX and I am so lost. LOL. I did edit a video by playing around with it, but now I am stuck. I've been trying to find a tutorial which is truly a beginner, beginners FCPX tutorial on CZcams but to no avail. Once I get it down, I will return to this video to create amazing sound for my videos. I created a Dylan John playlist so I can refer to it at another time. I subscribed also! Dylan John Hi Dylan! Thank you for the response! I would love to see a tutorial that shows what to do once you insert SD card into MacBook and every step after that. Download video into a folder, create a project, create the event. I’m talking a tutorial that would explain FCPX as if I never edited anything EVER!!! I find that most of the so-called videos say they are for beginners but they clearly are not. I had FCPX installed on my MBP so I would not have to go out side to pay someone to edit for me. I have a ton of content to film and I would love to add edits to really make it POP!!! If you create something like that (I know there is a lot to learn in FCPX), but if I could get the better than basics, I could play around with it to learn the rest. I will be your cheerleader for LIFE!! Sorry for the long response. Thank you Dylan!!👑🐝

John thank you. I’ve been wanting to be a bad ass as a video editor using FCPX. I hate being prosecuted for using Final Cut Pro, and being told is iMovie on steroids, and a dead video editor.
