- The HOKA Torrent 3 is a fantastic trail shoe that provides more ground feel and is great over technical terrain, BUT what's new on the Torrent 3 vs Torrent 2? Are these one of the best trail running shoes?

Great review, as always Steven! I’m actually excited for the Torrent 3, it’s really a great shoe to add to the rotation for me -and at the price point, why not?! 👍
Thank you, Nick! I agree; the Torrent 3 are great to add to the rotation
Good stuff Steven. I'm glad the design has not changed much and the shoe has worked out well for you. I feel terrible saying this, but I have been extremely disappointed in my pair and will be looking for a replacement very soon.
Thank you, Sage. I am really curious to watch your review and see the issues. For me, they are great!
Looks promising. I'll probably grab a pair!
I really enjoy them!
I’ve got a pair of these coming this week(did a return on torrent 2 pair since the sole delamed). Will be interesting to compare these to the TNF infinite 2’s and see which are better. Will return one of them as I won’t need both for my shorter/steeper runs. As far as mid distance I’ve got TNF enduris 3’s covering that and Mafate’s for the long haul. TNF really surprised me with their offerings this year. Love Hoka for what they’ve done….just feels good to experiment a bit again after running really in one style for so long. (Been thru 6 sets of torrent 2’s….)
There are so many great shoes out there!
Great review, this race season will be so so difficult as I will need to pick only one race shoes and it will most likely be a Hoka for my 50k but between the Torrent 3, the Mafate s4 and the Tecton X 2 coming I will struggle to pick because they seem like to have different structure and profile.
Which one of the 2 do you think have a better way to get rid of water during wet condition, the atr 6 was absorbind way too much water and ended up being too heavy during my race.
The Torrent has always drained pretty well, and I think the new upper of the 3 should help drainage. The Mafate Speed 4 has a bit thicker of an upper, and I wonder if it may absorb and hold water a bit more. I have not tried the Tecton X2 yet, so I do now know. However, I do know the Torrent 3 is the cheapest of the three, and a reliable great option! I would not hesitate to run a 50k in the Torrent 3.
I like the 2 s lot so I will go for the 3 as well for the mountain races
If you like the 2, you will love the 3's!
Welcome to Colorado - I find the outsoles wear down faster then the midsoles here (trails around Boulder, CO) my torrent 2 were out of lugs at 280ish miles and then midsole at 370ish.
Interesting. Could be due to the harder packed/rocky trails here I bet.
Thanks for the thoughts. Still on the fence about these. Tried them on in the store and just not sure about them. Love the 2’s tho, my plantar f. Went away due to running in it. Have you tried any of the TNF offerings? (Just curious)
Nope I have not tried any of the North Face shoes yet. I would like to
@@UltraTrailSteven enduris III might be an interesting one to try.
Loved the original, then the 2s had a narrower toe box and caused rubbing so had to sell. Looks like the 3 has fixed that, fingers crossed.
The 3 does feel better than the 2!
I've got the torrent 2 nn I actually really like them (I even sometimes sockless for even more ground feel and control on certain trails), so when I need new ones, I'll grab the 3s.... some are saying that the midsole is just a tad softer.... would u say that or u finding then 100% the same?
Hmm. I would say they are about the same.
Looks like Colorado barbers are better than Tennessee! Looking fresh!
🤣
HA thanks!
A Ike a Abo 😊 ready 😅
Ok then
How does it compare to Peregrine 12?
I like the Torrent 3 better personally. It feels more comfortable in the heel, and has a bit more cushion
@@UltraTrailSteven Thanks for the reply. Does Torrent 3 have a rock plate? I really liked the flexible rock plate on Peregrine 12.
@@TolunayOrkun no the Torrent 3 does not have a rock plate
@@UltraTrailSteven Thank you!
Hi Folks,
Seeing the common excitement here about Torrent 3 :-) , I was about to purchase them but...
....the I saw that movie: czcams.com/video/80uhXY_xgno/video.html
...where the presenter pointed out two main unwanted features of Torrent 3 being :
1) lack of cushioning
2) lack of grip
As a simple-minded person, I'm a bit lost following two groups of folks with contradictory opinions.
Now I guess some of you may have more experience in running in Torrents 3.
Could you please UPDATE on the performance of the shoe ? Many thanks.
Second thing, I;m kind of beginner with the aim to arrive to 20 km at some point in maybe next 2-3 years. I'm 44 years old and never run trials before. On asphalt I;m using semi-cushioned shoes and regularly do 10 km. The trails around are a mix of everything but without sharp rocks like in Alps for instance. Lot of gravel, roots and stones smaller than an egg, almost no grass. Is Torrent 3 a shoe that I should start with ? What would be your recommendation ? My feet is rather a bit wider than standard. I had Torrents 3 measured: I had 1.5 cm gap between my last finger and the shoe end but they were kind of narrow. Number up in the size should bring 2 mm in the shoe width.
All the best and many thanks in advance for any replay :-)
Well Sage had a different opinion of the Torrent 3, but I have been very happy with them. It just depends on what your feet are used to. We (reviewers) try our best to explain what a shoe is like and how it works for us, but ultimately shoes are a very subjective and personal thing.
The Torrent 3 may be a bit aggressive for the running you are describing. Maybe check out the Challenger 7. czcams.com/video/mmg0ui9cdYE/video.html
