I couldn't find a desk that fit what I wanted so I built my own! Works great and looks amazing!

dizney jnr I put together an old table with desk legs and it took me a couple hours because I had no tools or materials I did two store runs and the worst part is aligning things together

I'm gonna be building my own desk soon. I used to build houses(framing) and also did everything from finish carpentry to flooring(commercial concrete flooring/hardwood/carpet and epoxy coatings) so building the desk will be easy. But I'm checking out everyone's desks so I can get some ideas of how I want mine to be. Yours is pretty much what I was wanting to do, so thanks for the video and some inspiration!

@@jacieborrebach7944 You need your PC to breathe fresh air and cool it down since it gets hot. Putting in a box would overheat it. Plus I like the look of the PC so having it on the desk is what I want.

I can’t believe you paid all that money for a solid wood top only to paint it white.
I wanted the strength of solid wood and to be able to cut to size and drill holes in it to mount power strips, cable mgmt etc. If you get an already white desktop, its usually plywood with white laminate or honeycomb cardboard in Ikea Linnmon. Doesn't have the strength and cant cut to size, etc
@@PCBattlestations MDF board probably has the same strength. I do agree with Lane about having great looking wood and painting it. I rather stain it. Again, just an opinion, you get to do whatever you want with your wood. It's yours after all.
The top he used isn't solid wood. It's an ikea countertop that has a wood veneer.

@@brandonbreuer6589 Its solid wood countertop called Hammarp. I could tell its solid wood cause I cut it and can see its not a thin layer of veneer covering MDF.

Love the build, but nothing can compare to a properly stained/finished slab of wood. I winced when you painted it! LOL! To each their own. :) Awesome job and tons of details. Your hard work paid off...it looks awesome. :-)
I hear ya. I love the wood look too but wanted a white and black theme. the other hard part was drilling a hole in my desk to run the cable for the rgb mouse pad and keyboard. i definitely hesitated for a while on that

I watch a lot of woodworking projects online and it always bums me out as they always use a shit load of power tools and expensive stuff to build... you've made this look real simple with not an awful lot of tools and I thsnk you for that. Im going to build my own
I would need a desk like that but slight modified possibly larger to support 2 towers below the top level, a macmini, laptop area, and space for 2 printers

I like the desk. Especially the back arched leg gives it an amazing look but next time you have a project like this instead of using wood filler in that joint loosing your valuable surface area on your joint. Run your saw down the faces and give it a crisp 90 degree butt joint and for extra strength get some dowel today from your local hardware store and drill holes to reenforce your joint. It’s overkill but I personally “wood” rather be able to know that I can’t ever break it. If you want the vinyl to shrink and give a more conformed shape to your square leg do 45 degrees joints and use screws coming down from the top and up from the bottom, then they aren’t visible and for extra bonus points countersink your screws and put filler in the holes. Give a nice sand till the pine is very smooth and it should come out seamless and pretty closely resembling a steel leg. But these are my suggestions that are coming from someone who is passionate about building custom things and had the privilege to work in this field. These slight changes won’t require extra tools and should be easy. With the limited tools I saw in the video I am impressed by the quality of these desks. I have seen work that is horrible in comparison to this. So with my OCD suggestions, I wanna say that you made a awesome desk and a great video that should open some peoples eyes to the fact not all stuff has to come from ikea or rooms to go. I’m currently building my overkill steel and oak desk that matches the rest of my room and I’m always looking for more ideas to include into it.

I have and prefer an all white desk. It looks more modern but I agree with you in this situation. The butcher block table top is much nicer than any painted top. I wouldve at least stained it with White stain so you can still see all the Wood grain and butcher block look. I cringed when he started painting it.

Ha! I was there once. But after owning a couple of houses and starting to learn how to do things myself, it gets easier. Having the tools helps too haha

You don't need proper tools, a Jigsaw, sandpaper and a drill will do the same as a $10,000 workshop, it will just take more time and effort, $100 worth of tools will get You started on any project involving wood

Pocket holes are meant for cabinetry. In the future, make sure you're using the appropriate length screws for the material thickness. 3\4in ply should be fastened with 1 1/4in screws. Cool build non the less.
they can be used in other areas, But this is for sure text book expample of when not to use them. ( Butt jointing the Desk top ). the grain direction made it much weaker then it could be, Still better then Ikea tho

Man that table looks like it's a few good bumps away from listing pretty hard. All that work to secure the tabletop (which was a waste of some really beautiful wood) and you support the actual legs with tiny metal L brackets?
