- Finally trying my Rosa Gallery watercolor set and comparing them to my favorite brand - QoR. Will they compare? We'll do a full painting and go over the swatches as well.

We need more videos with Rosa watercolors!! I am obsessed, I love them so much. My Rosa tin works just fine, but I put my pans in a different pallette anyway. Thanks for the video, it makes me happy to see
Yes, I agree! These seem like wonderful paints.
I told you you were going to fall in love with these paints :) Right now, I have 40 watercolours from their 60 full collection (between full pans and tubes) They are in my top watercolours list! Enjoy them! Just make some more wet on wet , play with them, they are much more than ones can expect. I love how they flow and how pigmented they are. They are really artist grade watercolurs.
Hahaha, you sure did! What a joy!
I think I could watch hours of that paint spreading like that, and the final art. So gorgeous!
I agree - watching that paint spread is my favorite thing! Thank you.
The Rosa Gallery are my favorite watercolors..I have the botanical set. I also have a Russian full set that are very similar to these. (Not the white nights). Happy you liked them!
I loved them. Can't wait to use them again!
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed these :D I hadn't realized a half pan would fit on each row, nice! The indigo and violet flow is so fun, I figured you would like it - definitely a bit like Qor in that disperse rate. There are some extremely lightweight fine particle pigments (dyes also behave similarly) in many brands that spread in water eagerly like Qor without the need of flow additives. Not all of the colors do it, but one of the thing that really shows how finely Rosa grinds their pigments on their rollers is the amazing salt reactions - even in colors that are normally heavy or granulating like ultramarine blue and cadmiums. Those colors usually sink and settle into the paper and refuse to be moved by salt in other brands, so that could be a fun thing to explore in a painting.
Schmincke honestly just uses too much darn gum arabic ratio in their formula, resulting in gum arabic build up especially in masstone or around the edges of washes. I was really sad about how gummy the new super granulation colors were, but I get shiny spots for all my Schmincke paints on any paper type. You can ease it a little by mixing it with more water on a palette first instead of going straight from pan to paper. I have the same struggle with other gum arabic heavy brands too, like Renesans and even some of the Da Vinci watercolors too.
Good input here about the Schminke paints. It really surprised me that they had so much shine - definitely didn't expect that. It'll be fun to continue playing with the Rosa Gallery paints when I can. I loved them.
I've used schminke for two years, never had shinny spots ever!!! Love schmincke over all other paints
Renesans has plenty of honry which I thought was responsible for the shine. Ut behaves very differently from Schmicke or W&N in the two colors (tubes) I have.
I am so proud this watercolors are made in Ukraine! And the quality is great!
Lovely!
I just ordered these with a great deal from Amazon, will be here tomorrow, cant wait! Love your channel
Oh, sweet! I hope you love them. ❤️
Beautiful painting and puppies too! You did those watercolors proud.
Thank you. :-D
Gorgeous painting! I love the blooming in the sky.. epic. Pretty colours and Rosa look like amazing paints. The puppies are so cute!
Thank you. Aren't those puppies adorable? I love playing with them.
Swatching my fav YT viewing activity!! 😃👍🏾😂 Have you thought about taping the half pan wrapper into your swatch sheet then you will have all the info on the hue without needing to write it out. Yes the diffusion is spectacular on the natural black, violet and indigo. TFS; loved the painting, btw!! 🙏🏾🥰😃🤩
Yes I’m binge watching your vids!! 🥰👍🏾😃🤣
Hi, Gwen. Yes, I've thought about taping the wrappers into my swatch sheet, but the writing is so small and it adds extra bulk to my sketchbooks, so I've resisted it so far. Plus it would take up so much more room (sometimes). I have a hard enough time fitting all my swatches on one page, lol. But I'll keep it in mind again in the future. Thank you for binge-watching! I totally do that when I find a new watercolor channel that I love. I really appreciate you being here!
Ridiculously vibrant!😳🥰how pretty. I love the mixes.
Thank you! I love these watercolors.
I love Qor watercolors too. I recently bought Rosa gallery watercolors botanical set and love them as well! Thank you for the review.
Oh yes, both great brands!
Wow the colors looks so beautiful... Wonderful swatches video dear friend...
Thank you. :-)
Thanks for the swatching! And, oh! The puppies….❤️
You're welcome! Such cute puppies...
I can watch watercolor blooms all day😍
So satisfying
Loving seeing the puppies 🐶 adorable 😊
Blooms ARE satisfying!
I JUST got this set yesterday. Can't wait to play with them!
I hope you love it as much as I do!
I always learn something new when you're swatching colors! Incredible how the violet and indigo spread. And your final painting is SO beautiful!! 😍👏
Thank you, Willow!
some of the names and pigments remind me of white nights. very peculiar. that said, great review! they definitely flow a lot! XD
When I purchased my White Nights watercolors they included a thank you note from Rosa.
@@eBookHoarder whhaaat?! that's insane! where did you purchase yours from?
@@eBookHoarder 😳 very interesting!
Huh, interesting!
White Nights and Rosa Gallery are imported to the US Amazon and Etsy markets by the same person. They use a few different seller names, but it’s all the same business operation.
The obscure pg8 (typically used for the automotive industry) is used in both brands, and that is … odd.
But Rosa has had its own web presence for several years, packaging is totally different, etc.
I’m guessing they’re separate entities who work with the same importer who focuses on Eastern European brands? Probably?! And that’s how the thank you cards got in the wrong package?
I like the Rosa too :) Thanks for your review
You're welcome; thanks for being here!
love a good indigo
made for a gorgeous sky!
Indigo is one of my favorites. I loved it in the sky with the violet.
The painting turned out great - just gorgeous!
Thanks, Irene!
The sheen from schminke should be because they are more like eastern watercolors if I’m remembering correctly 😊
I have heard other people say the same thing. I need to look into it more...
Thank you! Just a note - the end tabs are meant to remain on the pan. They have all the name and pigment info - esp nice if you want to refill with tube paint. 😊
Oh geez, I'm going to have to look at that again and see if I could have left them on the pan. That would have been nice! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for sharing your video 🎨💕
Well, thank YOU.
These are beautiful paints.😍 I have a smaller set and love them so much I'm scared to use them.😆 your painting was absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!!
Thank you, Sheri. I understand not wanting to use them up. I just hope we can continue to get them in the future...
I’ve been eyeing these so very excited to see!! I love that unique navy case :)!
Puppies!!!😆😆😆😆❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They are amazing, at least so far! And yes, puppies are the best!
I am so glad you did a review on these, i have the same set but haven't been able to paint with them yet. i got so excited to see the pigment move as much as it did, i also use qor so it will be experimenting with both side by side :)
Thanks, Shirley. The side-by-side experiment sure will be interesting!
Stunning painting and great paints. I would like the violet, indigo and sepia especially. In the UK, only individual.tubes and pans are available. I hope you hsve a great time on your bike adventure.
Thanks, Valerie. Those three colors are fun. The bike adventure was a good one!
Great video and your painting is lovely. They are very nice paints. I had trouble opening them too, lol. Their drying shift isn’t too dramatic, either.
It’s good to see you working through your “hoard”, it’s good for all of us to look into our various stashes and play with what we have, tho I don’t think I’ll be able to keep Prodigal Sons out of my cart anytime soon, tbt 😂🌺
Yes, some of those Prodigal Son's paints are irresistible! I do get joy from working through what I have. I just need to remember that when I want something new, hahaha!
I wonder what you think of these paints in hindsight. I have just bought the modern set of 21, and augmented it with an additional seven pans, but as I could not see the colour list accidentally bought an extra umber. So now will have to see where 8 can acquire a single replacement pan. I bought these really to practice using cadmium colours before diving into my Schminke set as I have no other cadmium’s. But got intrigued that people were loving the quality. I have WN too, quite a large set, but never know which are reliable, and got a bit fed up with the huge drying shift on quite a lot of colours.
It would be very interesting to know if you still love these! Also whether you have used them in more structured work as they are so super flowy. I plan on using them on larger pieces where I think that quality might be useful, but wonder if you have used layers and how that went. I will of course try them out well myself, but it’s always great hearing what other people think.
Hi, Lindy! It really saddens me to say that I haven't had much of a chance to use these since this video because I've been working on so many other projects, but I LOVED them and they are on my mind every single day to get back to - and SOON! I have a lot of irons in the fire right now, but I WILL get back to them sooner rather than later. If you asked me today to name my top favorite brand, it would be a tie between QoR and the Rosa, so that's saying something. I also don't enjoy W&N very much - they always frustrate me when I use them. Thanks for the bug in my ear to get back to these even sooner!
On the t.v. & my screen, the umber seems to have a greenish tinge. If so-I have to have it. Also want that beautiful spreading neutral black & maybe the violet. I know the indigo spreads like the Qor-how does the color compare? Maybe a somewhat different shade so I have an excuse to buy it? All the colors in your painting made me smile. Damp, drizzly, gray day here.
I'll check the umber when I get home and compare some of the colors to QoR, too. Hopefully they're different so you have an excuse to buy it!
@@MirandaWatsonArt Well shut my mouth. The 24 set I got direct from the Ukraine is completley different than yours. The color #'s are all 300's & the pigments are totally different. I believe I have a student set. I am bummed!
Oh no, that's so sad. 😞
My Rose Gallery palette is the smaller, bright turquoise one, and it closes and latches really well, so maybe you just got a dud palette
Very possible
That is a pretty picture. I didn't know where you were going with it, but it all came together. Cute puppies. Do you know what their breed is?
Thank you, Diane. It was a fun one. The puppies are Heelers.
Its dye that makes it run like that in cheaper paint.....so wouldnt surprise me if they use dye
I'll find out in the lightfast tests.
More puppies! 😁
Yes. Gotta love 'em.
I like these colors very much, they have character and everything I do with them looks kinda like "real art" if that makes sense, but the beautiful green is weirdly smelly. Like some strong herbal medicine. Did anybody else notice this?
I'll have to use mine more to take notice of the green. I hope it doesn't smell. :-} I've been dying to get these out and use them again - I just have so much going on, darn it!
Oh WHY do you have to be showing me more fun watercolors? LOL. I don't remember you mentioning they are a Ukranian company, which is pretty cool to support right about now!
You know, I don't see anywhere that they claim to NOT use flow agents. I just see them saying use Gum Arabic and pigment. I wrote them a short email, let's see if they write back (I think it's going to their US office).
Hahaha, more yummy watercolors! I think since I stressed the importance of getting these in my haul video (being from Ukraine and all), I didn't want to re-hash it too much here. I probably should have anyway! I'm very curious to see if they write back to you. :-)
@@MirandaWatsonArt Ohhhhh maybe I missed the haul or spaced out or... maybe I just stopped watching after the sketchbooks LOL!!!!
@@MirandaWatsonArt Oh I did watch the entire recent haul but for some reason only saw the Schmincke? Was that the same video you showed the Rosa? I just skipped back through but didn't see them.
Here's that video: czcams.com/video/suycQYByn_M/video.html
@@MirandaWatsonArt Thanks! I think I did watch part of this but maybe not all!
Depending on the price you can get these paints for.....I must say, I feel that they are the best STUDENT grade paint out for the price. They are basically artist grade but not quite imo. Its just hard for me not to recommend cottman for student grade as u can find them EVERYWHERE and they just work and act like artist grade paint.
Interesting. I used these this week and I like them a lot better than Cotman. They don't seem like student grade, but my testing is incomplete at this point, so time will tell. 👍
