  • Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a group of disorders characterized by abnormal development of blood cells in the bone marrow. In MDS, the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells, leading to low levels of red blood cells (anemia), white blood cells (leukopenia), and platelets (thrombocytopenia). These abnormal blood cells often do not function properly and may have a shorter lifespan than normal cells.
