Nice
the fact you posted this at the exact day i started my assignment about Ukraine is just incredible

please make a video about Armenia - Azerbaijani, Karabakh conflict. thank you
We live in a time where Armchair Historian made a video about a war that started only a years ago. What a time tobe alive ❤
We wanted to make sure we covered the war with a delay (only talking about 2022 events) so that we can give at least some time for the information to settle. We also made sure not to mention any specific figures for troop numbers/casualties, as those numbers vary widely and are a huge point of contention. Still, we find it useful to help inform people about what is going on in the real world, and being as objective as we can.
History is always being created…

It’s awesome seeing The Armchair Historian cover the Russo-Ukrainian war. They rarely cover modern conflicts, especially ongoing ones.
Also known as the Russo/US Proxy War
@@grapefruitsimmons explain please your statement
They don't cover modern topics because the info on those conflicts would be wrong. 10 years from now portions of this video will (most likely) be inaccurate. This is mostly due to the fact that most of the information about the Ukraine war is top secret and is unknown to the general public not to mention the only information we do get is from the government and is also often altered from the truth.
@@raitute4084 I'm going to guess it's based off NATO shipments to Ukraine, Thing is though we've been fighting a proxy war with Russia for a long time now. Against Wagner PMCs in regions such as Africa and Syria.
@@grapefruitsimmons The war between Russia and Ukraine has nothing to do with the US. The Russian government just tried to solve its problems through a small victorious war for three days, and threats to the United States are just a propaganda tool.
I just recently spent a few days in the Ukraine to do some filming. Kyiv is intact but Kharkiv is definitely damaged. It's amazing that Kharkiv is still under Ukrainian control. Hopefully peace will flourish again here.
Thank you for it, it's really important that someone from outside of this knows what is going on in Kharkiv. I'm from this city and waiting for our victory, crushing russia and Kharkiv to become beautiful again.
It’s not ‘the Ukraine’, it’s just Ukraine
Bro, next time ask someone local to show you the damages in Kyiv. It's a big city. Some damaged buildings still are not repaired. Some of them were repaired but they were burned out completely in 2022.

For some it may sound stupid, but for me in Ukraine to hear "conflict" is just heart breaking. War is so much more than just a conflict. It's like in 1939 Germany started just a conflict, not a war, that became a world war just a bit later. Interesting enough Ukraine gave up its nukes in the 90’s. Only on the condition that both the east and west would guarantee not to interfere with their borders.
Exactly. It’s the ruscists that are breaking the agreements.
Sadly this is so. And Ukraine was attacked by a country that promised to defend Ukraine. And the US did not help Ukraine in 2014. Pity the Ukrainians who exchanged their nuclear shield for the useless promises of politicians and bureaucrats. Moreover, some of our politicians think that we should stop helping Ukraine, hearing their words makes me furious. Instead of increasing the scarce aid to Ukraine, some hypocrites and egoists demand it be stopped and Ukraine be left at the mercy of a dictator. The world is beginning to lose confidence in the pacts and agreements because they are not respected.
So? Ukraine wouldn’t have been able to do anything with them. To begin with, they weren’t Ukraine’s nukes, they were the USSR’s, and in any case they would have never been able to use them bc the codes were always in Moscow. Fun Fact, Russia would have detonated those nukes if they were still in Ukraine. They could have just said that Ukrainians were messing with the missiles and they blew up accidentally.
@@Jnivella true but there was fear that they would create their own with the material they had already.
@@Jnivella ... so? The original comment is relevant because Russia broke their promise. What relevance did your comment have?

When I watch arm chair historian, every video i watch is him discussing events that happened years ago. Watching something like this feels weird. I can imagine kids 20 years from now and just starting to learn about this war.
When someone starts criticising a defensive pact, everyone ought to prepare for war.
As someone who’s from Ukraine, it’s crazy to think that my kids one day will learn about this war in their history classes and ask me about it. We are living history people.
Sorry, but if the war ends and both sides are at peace, this would not be taught in any history class except for in Russia or Ukraine. This is simply because Ukraine is a poor country, nothing to offer the world. So it's fall would not do much to Europe or the world. That is unless the Ukraine war is the start of a chain reaction. Other than that, it would most likely be forgotten in the future. The only thing interesting in this war would be to see how military operations would be carried out in modern warfare.

Die Ukraine
This is already extremely biased right from the get go. It did not "start" with annexation of Crimea, CIA/Obama administration supported the coup de tat` during Maidan Protests and started arming/funding far right-wing neo nazi militias in Ukraine such as Azov Battalion and Right Sektor. They did not want the pro-russian Yanukovich to win the elections because he was very popular. The west did was it always does and interfered and sewn conflict and that eventually led to the Odessa Federal Building Massacre in which ukrainian militias and civilians firebombed a building full of russian-speaking ukrainians, killing women (some of which were pregnant) and men, any survivors were shot or strangled or were forced to leap to their deaths from the windows. This is all documented, recorded by video and photos by the way.
After the massacre pro-russian militias started popping up everywhere and a resistance formed against the neo-nazi militias, in which Russia supported, THEN Crimea WILLINGLY joined Russia without firing a shot, they were welcomed with open arms, Crimea did not want to be part of the western puppet nazi country of Ukraine. And now we are where we are..

In 20 years a kid will be watching this video to research a school project on this war. It's both sad and amazing that we get to live through such a big historical event
Maybe for europeans an americans its both sad and amazing but for ukrainians its tragedy becouse every day russian rockets kill innocent people and every day people lose their relatives. Аnd recently the russians created an environmental disaster in the Kherson region by blowing up the Kakhovskaya HPP. Thousands of people lost their homes, and elderly people who could not swim drowned, and the russians do not give permission for evacuation. There is even a video of a Ukrainian drone giving a bottle of water to people who are forced to sit on roofs due to a flood. And the most disgusting thing in my opinion in this situation is that the UN celebrated the day of the Russian language on the day when it all happened. Why then was the UN created if not to protect the environment and human rights? It is very unfortunate that I (and many other children and teenagers) lose childhood in constant fear while the russians rejoice at every death of Ukrainians

It is worth mentioning that on the ground the invasion of Crimea (invasion of Russian military men) had started on February 20th, 2014. Yanukovych fled Ukraine on February 22d. It is the undeniable truth that Yanukovych betrayed Ukraine playing his part in diligently orchestrated "separatism". Putin, later that spring, was honouring his military men involved in Crimea's annexation with the medal created for that occasion that read "for return of Crimea" dated February 20th, 2014.

Its finny think tany starting genocide and ethical cleansing in Ukraine by prowestern Hunta Politicians that took power during the Maydan and became persecuting those who weren't agreed with their unlawful taking power. The events in Odessa's massacre in 2014 - in which Parliament the proRussian peaceful protesters unarmed were burned alive by proNAZI banderas' followers and radicals as bandits and starting ATO (or so-called "counter terroristic operation" killing separatists in Donbass and Lugansk - bombing unarmed civilians and killing women, elders and children who are prorussian speakers by right radicals from neo-Nazi battalions "Azov" and "Aydar"). So the Minsky agreement was the last try to stop such a massacre, with all the territories are returned to the Ukraine (proRussian separatists and Russian forces agreed to stop fire, but the Ukrainian government didn't want to see it and with the support from HQ from London, France and Germany, NATO alliance not to follow these agreements continued firing peaceful citizens there). So the result was the Special Operation - to establish the government in Ukraine that can really provide the safety of proRussian and Ukrainian population there in reality and stop the influence of NATO there which really should go away from there. So the course of President Putin is quite clear for the population and a supportive one: "the denazification and demilitarisation of Ukraine"

Love this channel. Subscribed after seeing VTH react. I love that you keep to the facts and you don’t put any biases in. Thank you and your team for all your excellent work
VTH is so based
I love how objective and careful you are when ever you talk about something like this
He is far from objective. He intentionally ommited the information that any Pro-Ukranian would like to close their eyes for.
This conflict did not start with Crimea, started earlier when Ukraine massacred their protesting citizens and conducted a coup.
Yeah, I like how he didn't romanticize any battles, groups, or individuals. *But* he didn't do justice to the crimes and atrocities committed by Russian forces. Objectivity would include highlighting the Ukrainian Genocide as well.
Ofc it's a very sensitive and controversial topic
@@charlie8344Shouldn’t be controversial though. All of Ukraine’s territories should be returned and the invaders should leave or be defeated.
@@MovieGuy808 it IS a controversial topic. You probably are in an echo chamber if you think otherwise.
Great to see that there's no bias
History geeks will watch this in the future to learn more about the conflict that is currently going on, that blows my mind, armchair I’ve been watching you for awhile, thank you for all the knowledge you’ve given me
It's crazy, we never hd such a documentation of war before. Imagine the ww2 documentaries we could have if there would have been youtube nd the internet
"Join us next year for the 2023 recap" sounds a lot like "I cant wait for season 2 of Chernobyl" 😂
This is perhaps the most recent historical event that this channel has covered so far.
At the beginning of the invasion you missed the north , Chernihiv , it was occupied more than a month. I am from this city .
He had to skip over most stuff, since that would take a far longer video.
It's sad to hear.
4:02 Do you understand that showing on this map that Crimea is part of the Russian Federation is comparable to showing Hawaii as part of Japan or Cuba as part of the United States? Temboliye, this offends the local indigenous peoples who have more in common with Turkey and Ukraine in terms of history.
could draw with a dotted line.
Thank you for bringing light to this terrible war.
Thank you for this. I feel like I have a much better handle on these events now.
This guy could make the funiest joke in history and still have a serious face
I would love to see you cover the Anglo-Irish war of the 1920s
northern ireland: 🚗💥💣
This video is very interesting keep it up but my question is can you make a breakdown of the war in Congo? that will be very useful
They made a video about the Congo wars
You have mistake in name Putin . Everyone calls him HuilO.
Many Americans seem not to understand how important for Poland and whole NATO is Ukraine's survival as indepemdent state. If they fail, we will have Russians in several places at our borders (Kaliningrad Oblast, Belarus and Ukraine). This is also important to NATO, and in turn to USA's imperial status. If USA looses all it's allies, then you guys will have to change your politics to isolation, which will bring you even higher prices of your life.
Ukraine's survival is Poland's safety. Poland and Europe's safety is American well-being.
Not to mention how Poles have enough of wars with our neighboors. Poland, Ukraine and whole Western & Central Europw deserves peace.
@Chris Porter you mean that stray missile that was meant to intercept Russian drones? what is your suggestion? just stand down and let the russians bomb apartments, schools and hospitals?
@Chris Porter don’t see how a tragic accident changes that.
is there nothing that Nato has imposed on Russia with missiles?
@Chris Porter it wasnt
@@user-zs4gv6se1m what?
0:21 al of this cause of one man’s imperial power dreams & millions who blindly fallow him.
This the most unbiased video I've seen so far
Even though its crazy that this is still going on in the present day, Armchair historian never dissapoints. The development of detail and providing learnfull facts is extraordinary. I really hope this conflict ends soon, its just terrible what is happening over there..🙏
Putin should be stopped
Though its an interesting video, its far from being detailed. Quite contrary, it's brief summarization of events (and also almost unjustly impartial), which is very far from "extraordinary"
This video only covers up until the end of 2022 and is purposefully lacking detail since a lot of the details of this war right now are propaganda (fog of war effect)
@@Netrofikator If you're going to accuse someone of impartiality at least take the bother to minimally elaborate why.
@@Netrofikator That's the thing, we don't have much in terms of unbiased information. That is also why he so briefly mentioned the several people in Bucha being found murdered after Russian retreat - there is a lot of speculation from both sides of who and how did it, with no real conclusion being drawn yet.
I would really like to see a video on the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War.
