You would still want to protect the connectors on where the batteries connect. Most of the components like the display and throttle have a water resistance rating.

It’d be great if brands sold or provided such covers. To my knowledge, only Rad Power Bikes does this for some models.
It would also dissuade the random prankster from sticking used chewing gum into the contacts.
