      My favorite synergistic removal is "Artifact Mutation". In an aristrocratic deck it's just generatating tokens with slowing down an opponent being gravy. The floor is destroying a signet for 2 tokens, but it often does better. Another sweet new card is "Thieving Skydiver". Would you like to steal an opponent's sol ring for 3?
      Yes, please. You don't even get hate for it, because targeting the leading player is seen as a good act.
      I might be a bit biased though, I really like stealing my opponents stuff. As a kid my favorite was "opponents lose x life, you gain that much life".

I dunno, I hope they keep growing. I dunno what the cap for subs are for magic but theres definitely a career to be had so I hope they get there

    I use miraris wake in gishath and the ur dragon- the extra damage matters more in those decks than usual, and I often find myself having to cast gishath a few times during a game and miraris wake is one of a number of cards that enable that.

  • @blackmountain1983
    @blackmountain1983 Před 3 lety

    Great video. Talking about Mirari's Wake one thing I would add is you also want to make sure you are playing a creature or token themed deck so you get the maximum value of the anthem. It's definitely an A in my GW tokens deck.

  • @marvinbuck5984
    @marvinbuck5984 Před 3 lety +2

    I actually really like the signets, even in green, because it's similar to Rampant Growth, but you get the extra mana that turn. Let's say you Rampant Growth turn 3 and have hit all your land drops, you only have 1 mana left that turn, because the basic you searched for comes in tapped. If you Simic Signet turn 3 instead, you now have 2 mana left that turn. I know it's not a huge deal, and is only applicable if you play a lot of smaller CMC (MV now) spells, but if you're trying to utilize all your available mana each turn, I've found that the Signets help with that a lot. Three Visits is definitely way better because the searched for land enters untapped. Also, yeah it has a higher probability of getting blown up than a land, but depending on your playgroup, you might not need to worry about that as much. Just my 2 cents. Love the show, great content. :)

    • @Mat-bw3ok
      @Mat-bw3ok Před 3 lety +1

      Im of the same opinion although it depends on the deck. Signets basically cost 1 mana as you can use them the turn you play them whereas when using green ramp you mostly don't have access to it until your next turn plus you start becoming more likely to miss land drops as well. Paying 2-3 mana to ramp a land out only to miss your next land drop anyway never feels good

Swords is only like $3, and I even prefer Utter End to Mortify. And that's without even getting to removal on creatures. Like if your deck is running on 2 mana mana rocks and cultivates and explosive vegetation it isn't great, but its going to probably run fine almost all the time. I mean, I'm new to the format. And maybe it's just because of the group I play with.
    But I got someone who loves planeswalker decks. Another has an artifact deck that loves having artifacts in his grave. Grave recursion decks with moldrotha. I'm always looking to exile everything. And exiling all the artifacts when my buddy wants them in his grave. Yea, in our group that's a scary card. It just obliterates any of the decks that my friend groups throw out.
    I see how 6 mana to take out artifacts is ehh. But its versatility for what I see being thrown out. Sometimes I'd pay 6 mana just to see 1 artifact get exiled.

    As a person who loves me some golgari in EDH I never see a reason not to put Assasin's trophy in any of my deck, its the cheapest and most flexible piece of removal I can use. Their are a lot of other great removal pieces that are more influential of course like Wind grace's judgement, that is pretty much an +2 in card advantage, but it's unlikely to be as useful early game to get dem Rhystic studies and other value engines early enough to stop the blue player from winning from the raw card advantage. Also in personal experience I rarely ever encounter a game where if the player does get that extra land that it actually mattered in the long run, even against landfall decks. As the piece you are removing is typically Significant enough that the given advantage that the removed piece would have gave.
    This also includes deck with other colours added to it, even with like blue, because sometimes, you are going to encounter pains in the butt that cannot be countered and cards that are reanimated by card effects as opposed to via a spell.
    Also many people playing multi colour late game are unlikely to have enough basics in their decks and tend to fail to find.
    The only downside is that you cannot meme in the way you can with path to exile and get rid of a thing you own and get a land out of it. So minus points for not doing the meme play I would rank it more as a A- because it pretty much an auto include in any deck regardless of if you play super comp or casual.

      The 4 damage only targets players and planes walkers. No worries for the mistake though dude, we all read cards and get super excited about it to then later work out oh the card does not work that way. :)
      So the pool of commander's it kills is pretty limited as we don't have many commanders that are planeswalkers in the format unless your group does a homebrew rule where any walker can be your commander then my bad.
      I know I do that a lot more with the old school cards. Enjoy the card myself though, especially when in a voltron deck or go wide deck.

    I didn't understand the point about miraris wake. If you untap with it and you add 12 you have netted 7 mana not 1. What am I missing?

    • @NitpickingNerds
      @NitpickingNerds  Před 3 lety

      The Wake produces only the mana that’s made by it. So 6 lands means 6 made then use the code of wake 5. You can see you only bet 1 mana.

    • @hyperonmonster

      6 of that mana you would have gotten anyway without mirari's wake

    I think your take on Merciless Eviction is off. When you play with random people you tend to play against a wide variety of decks. I've run into deticated Enchantress decks, Artifact decks and that mode has come clutch. Especially when your playing a dedicated creature deck and the other modes are sometimes just to remove 1 or 2 problem cards that aren't creatures. My favorite deck is like a 8 it is a Breya, Planeswalker deck and that mode messes me up. A lot of people are into Atraxa Planeswalkers but in my opinion red is much better then green.
