Caesarstone SDC24 Brief | A Museum of South African Languages by Juliet Kavishe

This years’ brief for the Caesarstone Student Designer Competition is incredible! It is written by Juliet Kavishe of ICoD and is titled ‘A Museum of South African Languages’. The main objective is to create a museum from scratch that’s dedicated to celebrating the linguistic diversity of South Africa’s languages, and showcasing the richness, history, and evolution of these numerous languages. It should aim to both preserve and revitalise endangered languages while recognising the diminishing influence of colonialism on the linguistic diversity in South Africa.
Apart from winning exceptional prizes - like an all-expenses paid trip to an international design fair of your choice worth R100K - there are many other rewards of being involved in the competition! Entries are examined by a renowned panel of judges and once the finalists have been selected, they are all presented to our country’s top designers, architects, and media at a dazzling awards ceremony. The exposure and networking opportunity is invaluable and every year we see young students acquiring internships and employment by some of South Africa’s best firms.
