Almost impossible to hate a class player like Silva. When Silva retires, he’ll go down as one of the most underrated players of all time. For me, easily City’s greatest in terms of consistency and longevity. His professionalism and talents are outstanding. He plays in absolute silence where he prefers to divert himself away from the limelight by allowing his teammates the freedom to grab the headlines. One of the greatest premier league imports. The fact that he rarely gets nominated for individual accolades is baffling and scandalous. I dare to say he’s more important than De Bruyne

Unfortunately, he was just never used properly until recently. Pellegrini liked to play 4-4-2, which often meant Silva played out wide for a large portion of his PL career. Whilst it meant he had more space to operate in, leading to a lot of assists, it did mean he wasn't involved in the game as often as he is now.
whenever I hear someone say "David Silva is underrated" what I hear is "look at me i'm a football expert". No you're not. And silva is not half as important as de bruyne. If anything, fernandinho and de bruyne has to cover for him. Fernandinho does the defensive duties and De bruyne drives the ball forward while silva plays in the small spaces. Which he is good at but that's about it.

Silva is the Iniesta of Man City, habitually under-appreciated by the wider world audience and both of them have had to deal with a little Argentinian getting all the headlines but those who know realise there'd be no City without Silva just like there'd be no Barca without Iniesta.

After England's embarrassment in France, I decided to do a geeky two-season-long study of MOTD. Every time I watched it, Id take a note of every player that did something really good. If they did minimum 2 great things in the match I took their name. Next week, the same. If that week, the same player did at least 2 great things, Id put them on a longlist. I did this for almost two years, and counted up the number of times they were on the longlist. I had no idea who Ben Mee was at first - I wasnt a Burnley supporter. And I ignored all the media hype, just going on their actual performances over a long period. By the end of the study, there were 15 names at the very top. The most consistently brilliant footballers in the Premier League. These names were: Marc Albrighton, Xerdan Shaqiri, Danny Rose, Vincent Kompany, Seamus Coleman, Kyle Walker, Alexis Sanchez, Harry Maguire, David Silva, Winston Reid, Ashley Williams, Mesut Ozil, Jack Butland, David de Gea, and Ben Mee. Of those, Ben Mee, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Rose, David de Gea and Marc Albrighton were the most repetitive names on the list. So, according to my unbiased, long-term study, Ben Mee is the best centreback in the Premier League over the course of multiple seasons. Since then, Ive become a massive fan, believe he may be the best CB in the World, hes retweeted my requests to MOTD to push for him to start every game for England, and Ive become a Burnley supporter. The last English player Ive seen of his level is Paul Scholes himself. We are talking about nothing short of the Messi of centrebacks here.
