Hansi used to go **really** ham on his voice during their early years. Then at some point he realized that he just couldn't sustain doing that, and starting with their third album he started to take classical vocal training (for more than 15 years I believe). Since then, he has become a lot more conservative with effects like the signature Power Metal Scream for example.

Blind Guardian made a concept album ("Nightfall in Middle-Earth") inspired by J.R.R.Tolkiens book "Silmarillion". All songs on this album are just fantastic and as a Tolkien fan I needed to have this album. It was my first metal album.

@@ThomFoolery1 The song "Time stands still" is about my favourite character Fingolfin from the Silemarillion. After an awful defeat against the orcs he rides to the fortress of Morgoth (the boss of Sauron from LotR) and calls him out even though he knows he will lose. EPIC!

Told you The Bard's Song is kind of an anthem. Glad you liked it. 😊And if you wanna know, what he is saying in the video:
At the beginning: "Wacken, we'll be happy to take this with us. I would also like to let you scream longer, unfortunately we have little time left. We want to spend that with music, of course. I think most of you will know what's next. Has been legendary here time and time again. I have a feeling you will top this today."
Between the songs, after the YOU ARE FUCKING CRAZY: "Wacken, I hardly dare to say: YOUR ARE EVEN HOTTER/COOLER THAN USUAL! We had a great time up here, we always enjoyed coming to Wacken. At some point it's time to move on. The time has come now. I'll see you somewhere." LET'S GET CRAZY FOR A LAST TIME! ...
At the end of Valhalla, before the crowd takes over: "Looks great, sounds great. I think Magnus (Marcus - the guitarist) has worked enough, we can now bring Frederik (the drummer) into play. For that, YOU SHOULD SING A LITTLE LOUDER!" - worked like a charm 😁
And during the singing of the crowd he screams: some word I don’t understand, no matter how hard I try 🤔.. "give me everything" .. "mega" .. "the last three" .. again something I can’t hear properly .. "sing/knock us off the stage"
I am usually not able to help with stuff like this, because with most of the reactions I watch Finnish is needed, I thought "why not". 😁

Blind Guardian are one of those special bands, most metal fans, no matter which sub genre you do prefer, can agree on, I guess... and most of us l know the lyrics, one could think we have learned them at school here in Germany ;)

The video quality isn’t as good as the official live video, but Hansi‘s vocals are more impressive. In the official video he skips some high notes to go easy on his voice, which is perfectly fine of course and his singing is still incredibly powerful, but the „Imaginations...“ version is the best version of the song that I‘ve heard.
