A blatant cashgrab from the northern French lords and a fear of losing monopoly by papal forces. Then when they surrendered, they were massacred all together, not much of a glorious victory I'd say.
All crusades were necessary, but some ways they were done, were not justified.
We're not jews nor muslims, their teachings are mostly old testament.
But we're not, we've received and accepted Lord's message when He was living just like us. To love your neighbor as thyself, love your enemy not hate them.

The Pope wanted to expand and maintain his power and used the crusades to that end. The Baltic crusades were nothing short of expansionistic programs by various Germanic/nordic groups.

Granted, you said the Baltic Crusades were nothing but expansionist programs by certain Germanic and Nordic kingdoms, that I agree.
Sooner or later the Baltics will be Christians anyway, there were already a lot of Christian Orthodox communities existed there, but they just weren't Catholics under the Pope. Christ lived as a carpenter and was crowned thorns, but Christian rulers at that time lived lusty lives and crowned themselves with gold and silvers, even corrupting the church itself and some point.
However, as Christians I think we shared the same blame for what the Papal States did, we shouldn't let the church divided in the first place.
The west lost its roots of Christianity once they split with the east, maybe we orthodox deserved what happened for letting the western church was led by blind people. After all If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.
But things have changed now, we Christians shared the same faith in this changing world, the Pope is and have tried to fix the church. Even getting closer to orthodox church, let's just hope politics won't get in the way this time.
In that case maybe you're right, not all crusades were necessary, but most of them still do, for example the Anatolian, Andalusian, Mongolian and some of the Holy Land crusades.
However, just like I said before, not all of them were done right.

Defending Christian lands was noble and right, but thankfully the catholic church condemns the actions of the crusaders themselves, who were evil and did terrible things. I hope we can enjoy these songs and the bravery of the crusaders without conding the terrible things they did.

@@trajan9034 There's a lot of truth in that. Unfortunately, the crusaders made consistent decisions that went against Christian values, and it is no surprise they fell into heresy a century later.
That is the problem with weighing historical figures ethically, unethical things were just too common back then.
I am always open to reconsider my views on these topics, but as for right now, the reliable historical accounts given by Raymond d'Aguiliers and Albert of Aix are too telling. And we shouldn't support the actions of those soldiers.
It's worth noting that the leaders of the crusader armies were very furious with the things the crusaders did, and not even they were in support of it. So we shouldn't be either.
