    Great video!!! We're about to ramp up our ebay store. this inside look is soo helpful & i love how youre not trying to create a cinematic production. (although I like those videos too) Some of your numbers you said were wrong because you were distracted but we all know what you meant. (1:43 & 4:40)

    I'm very new to this, so I started out with this process. I do flat rate, but I used the Ebay shipping calculator and figured out the cost of shipping from me to the farthest locations in the US and that is what I use for the flat rate for certain oz. There were a lot of videos I watched from other resellers before I decided how I wanted to set up flat rate.

      That shipping can be tricky to learn, that's for sure. That's so smart, how you did it. Do you have any recommendations of youtubers that helped you? Or a specific video that was helpful?

      @@JenntheReSeller I watched so many, but the ChaChingKing has a lot of great shipping videos. The tricky part is that a lot of the videos/information is outdated from what I can tell, so you need to find recent videos! Ground Advantage seems to be a came changer, even for packages about 1 lb, but old videos don't reflect that information.

    If you want to change your shipping to flat rate, you can do it pretty quick using the Bulk Edit option. Just make sure you select all the jeans or sweaters, etc for the particular price you want to change it to. 🦋

      That's kind of what I was thinking I would do. It will just miss some of those random, one off things. That might not be a big deal though.

    Great sales! I had a suit just like that I didn’t look over as good as I should in the store and I think it sold for the same amount. It happens. Praise God they still sell 😂 we learn and keep moving forward. Also, I only do flat rate shipping. I’ve had a good experience with it. I do $7.99 for pants. $6.99 for shorts. Most shirts are $5.99 or $4.99 depending on the material. I’ve gotten good reviews and I almost always make a little on it. Usually under $1. But I don’t usually have to pay extra. I’ve only had to do it like 2 times.

    I'm new to reselling, so have just being doing calculated shipping. My understanding was that if I didn't get the email I didn't need to do anything and I wouldn't be opted in but that wasn't the case. I didn't get the email and when I checked I had been opted in. I decided to stay opted in but added a small handling fee and see how it goes. I was considering a flat rate option but it seems more work to set up and then you will have to amend when prices go up.

    • @JenntheReSeller
      @JenntheReSeller  Před 4 měsíci

      Oh, that's interesting. I wonder why you were automatically opted in then. That is a good point about flat rate shipping. I hadn't even thought about that. I guess that's easy enough to do in bulk if shipping business policies are set up.

    I'm going to keep my store at calculated shipping without the discount. I sell hard goods though. But, regardless of what one sells, eBay does take commission on the whole sale including SHIPPING and sales tax....sooo.....If any reseller extends their discount to the buyer, they are essentially losing money on shipping every time! I've never dabbled in flat rate shipping, so I have no opinion on that. Thanks as always Jen!

    If you change your shipping policies to flat rate the way you described it would just be easier to leave your current listings the way they are and apply your new shipping policy to future listings if that makes sense. Otherwise it would take a ton of time to change everything even using the bulk edit feature

    I use flat rate shipping. Not going to change. Sometimes I eat a few cents sometimes I profit a few cents depending on where it goies. I have a lot of listing do want the hassle of having to change everything over again if I don’t like calculating shipping. Just my opinion.

    Personally, I don't think there is a clear answer when it comes to what to do about shipping options. I have been passing along the discount already -- for the last couple of years at least. I still make (or lose) a little on shipping depending on how accurate I was with the estimated weight and package dimensions. Mostly it's a wash though. I kinda want to change it to keep the discount for myself, but now that they are changing the default I'll probably just leave it. I think switching to a flat cost for shipping is just more work. Like you, when I shop, I'm looking at the overall cost anyway.

    I’m new to selling on eBay. I’ve been using calculated shipping. Can someone please explain why some are choosing flat rate over calculated? I thought calculated was cheaper way to go. And what do you mean the buyer receives discount instead of seller? Any help would be much appreciated.

    • @JenntheReSeller
      @JenntheReSeller  Před 4 měsíci

      I am sorry I didn't do a great job of explaining that. So with Calculated shipping, ebay may calculate that my item will cost $10 to ship from my house to say California based on the size of the item and the weight and distance. Then they give me a discount of say 30%, so it only costs me $7 to actually ship the item there. But the buyer was charged the full amount. If we opt in to the buyer receiving the discount, then the buyer will pay me $7 for shipping, and I will pay $7 for the shipping label. If I use flat rate shipping, I may charge $8 for shipping but still only pay $7 for the shipping label. Does that help?

    • @phitjade
      @phitjade Před 4 měsíci

      Are you purchasing your labels thru ebay? if so you'll notice that on the buyers end they'll see a certain price for shipping but when you buy the label, ebay charges you, the seller less. soon ebay will show the seller the discounted price. For my shipping I do either 1) charge shipping according to size & eight, or 2) If the idem fits into a USPS flat rate package I roll that predictable shipping price into the item price & offer "FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING YIPEE!"

    • @Julie-kp6sz
      @Julie-kp6sz Před 4 měsíci

      Thank you both for your replies, super helpful! I think I will stick with calculated shipping as it seems to be much cheaper on buyers end which I’m hoping will make for faster sales.
