    The pin is the button pivoting point, very easy mechanism in fact it would have been fairly easy to include a sliding safety to block the button. It was done by an experienced machinist as evidenced by the perfect fit.

      You push down and the other side of the lever has a ball or round shape. Push down and the ball goes up releasing the blade. I’ve seen an Italian knife with the same locking mechanism.

    I have a small knife collection, (6) and recently bought the standard Buck 110. It cost around $60, but I couldn't bring myself to carry it because I thought it was too dang pretty. So, I found a pretty good deal on the auto elite, and jumped on it. Way more expensive than the regular 110, but it has satin nickel bolsters, and G-10 scales. So in my mind I don't have to worry so much about it being pretty. I plan on using the crap out of it.

  • @WebsterLeMessurier
    @WebsterLeMessurier Před 3 měsíci

    I have two of them but they are hard to open; either the pin locking the blade in place is too long or the depth of the bottom end of the button is isn’t sufficient. I purchased a newer auto direct from Buck and it deploys much easier. But, because it has a coil spring rather than a leaf spring it doesn’t open with the authority of the earlier model conversions. Still awesome though. Donald.

      I feel the same way. For my taste, the Buck knives are just a little more rugged looking, and I tend to lean more towards natural materials like wood, and traditional knife materials like brass. That being said, I do like the 6OT very much and the 7OT. The 6OT is just perfect for my quickdraw holster. I have a video I made on that early on. Stay safe!

    I have one in brand new mint condition with leather holster. You will not find the Buck 110 Autoknife to easy. I have done thorough research on that knife. The one shown in the video is 90% exact. Not to a Gunsmith, to a Jeweler. Making one is not easy, there is a trick to it. At one time the value was $175.00 that is for one made perfectly!
    Perfectly?? Means almost no sound when it opens. Handle on mine is Teak wood. A very beautiful knife and razor sharp. I really enjoyed this video as not many people have ever seen a Buck 110 Auto-Knife.

    • @KnifeDetector
      @KnifeDetector  Před 2 lety

      I’m not sure the hitting the pins with a metal punch will help with a push button. It may be that the tang is worn, or it may be that it was used as a pry bar. If it’s a factory push button, send it back. If it’s a custom job, a good gunsmith can probably fix it for you.

  • @airmojo
    @airmojo Před rokem +1

    Cool knife... I just came across a 110 & 112 in an antique shop that have brass buttons... and decided to do some research before I made an offer on them... the 110 has a similar oblong brass button like yours, and the 112 has a circular brass button... the handles are black--not sure if they are ebony wood or some sort of plastic composite, haven't handled them yet... and not sure now if they are factory or custom conversions... both look like new with the Buck leather sheaths.
    I wonder how long the spring will last... best to store all automatic knives in the open position to relieve the stress on the springs... I have a couple German Hubertus autos, and I cover the the sharp blades with a thin cardboard sheath so I don't accidentally cut myself while looking through my knife collection.

    • @KnifeDetector
      @KnifeDetector  Před rokem +1

      Great advice!! The 112 with the circular button is likely from the factory , if the 120 looks like mine, it’s probably a conversion :)

      @@KnifeDetector I found out on The Blade Forums that there are Chinese fake knockoffs that have the Buck markings on the blades, and look pretty much like an aftermarket conversion... Aliexpress (China) was selling these knives at under $40 some years ago... and have custom filing work on the blade and blade spine--not sure if they all do... they are not conversions... the entire knife was China made.
      I bought the knives before knowing that (offer accepted)... they function, seem well-made, and look great, but they are NOT Buck knives, so I paid too much for them, considering what they probably originally cost the dealers who bought these knives to make a pretty big profit; but there are people out there that think they are actually Buck knives.
      I'll keep them, and use them, not worrying about keeping them in "brand new" condition... maybe even try putting custom stag scales on them.
