The actress playing Hermes fucking KILLS
I was about to say I looooove this Hermes.
She’s incredible!
She has some amazing pipes
She is amazing
Carribbean Hermes is just *chef's kiss*
I met her when she was in & Juliet!! I was so excited when I found out she was Trinidadian bc I am too. She’s amazing.
Right???? Something I never knew I needed but now that I have it I need a recording with her
Everything about this is phenomenal, but one thing that stood out was how *hopeful* Orpheus seems here. It makes Doubt Comes In hit different, because we see him start out with the same hope he had in the first version of Wait For Me, only for it to be crushed when doubt does eventually come in.
It’s those damn muses!!
Oh i just KNOW the turn around hits you hard.
his hopeful smile at 3:58 makes me want to cry
@@dignature123I saw it on Sunday for the first time, I knew the myth so I knew it was going to happen, but the gasp that came out of me was as if I’d been punched in the gut!
Yes, when we begin a love relationship, we hold so much faith and hope. I definitely saw that in this scene. I ache for them. I remember when my husband and I started dating, I felt the same hope and doubt. He was so good looking that I was afraid he had unresolved issues stemmed in insecurity that might manifest in infidelity. Of course, that didn’t happen but we lived in so much poverty. There’s nothing wrong with having a small wallet, but it was tough at times.
We also had so much love for one another and for life. I see now we were very fortunate, just like this youthful, energetic love.
I feel my husband may have liked back once too many because we’re now separated. He disappeared from our path three years ago. I’m walking by myself now, and I’m waiting for his reappearance.
Irish Orpheus is just so perfect to me
It's carribean
@@hektorvictor877 I think thats hermes, correct me if i'm wrong tho
@@LuanneXuan You are correct Luanne
Trinidadian accent. Some folks think its close to Irish because of the natural melodic twang
@@jezeannwilliams1145 That's Hermes. Dónal Finn, who plays Orpheus, is Irish.
Shoutout to Grace Hodgett-Young (Eurydice). She pulling double duty. Because not only she had a cameo in Sunset Boulevard performance with Tom, she was also nominated and still had to perform with her current show Hadestown. Good for her :)
And she’s setting off to Broadway soon as well! Sad to lose her but happy NYC will be able to see her 😌
@@im_living_deadjust saw her in hadestown and now back home and seeing her first preview in sept *play you get the best of both worlds*
She was a phenomenal Eurydice
I will always love the line:
"The dog you really got to dread
Is the one that howls inside your head
It's him whose howling drives men mad
And a mind to its undoing"
It's not only the general foreshadowing, but also just how true that line is for people.
mama Hermes really fucks me up every time she speaks. My GOD
this west end cast might be my fave after the original. the accents add SO MUCH to the show wow
SOOO MUCH
This cast gave me goosebumps. They’re AMAZING! I wish I was in England right now.
Hermes deserves an award, I love the delivery so much
I meet her at stage door back in feb and she was the nicest person you can ever meer
Saw this in the West End about three weeks ago. Got out of the theatre and immediately bought tickets to see it again. I just can't get over it.
I've seen it twice live including with the original Broadway cast, it never fails to deliver plus how it ends and just starts again makes it an instant replay. I just wish they'd do a live shoot and upload it somewhere like they did with Hamilton and Waitress and a few others
Same here except the Broadway version in early January with Jordan Fisher and Solea Pfeiffer - won the lottery - wow. Hoping to see it again next month in NYC before Jordan Fisher leaves. Finally gave up on the Broadway lottery as the show got even more popular. The west end version also is so strong...
Each character has special moments of delivery, and it is amazing to see and hear. From Persephone’s delivery of “you let them go” with hades, to the Fates (special shoutout to the 3rd fate who sings the part so hauntingly and powerful), to Hermes who I could listen deliver any of their lines with such conviction, to the hope in Orpheus’s hope. It really is amazing
I watched this a few weeks ago and Eurydice was an understudy (she is playing the second fate in this clip) and I honestly could not tell one bit until I was looking closely at the program later. I cannot believe this didnt dominate the Oliviers this year, I saw only one nomination. It is hands down the best theatre I have ever seen, even my partner who is not bothered by musicals was blown away enough that he wants to see it again with better seats.
I think we had a few understudies too but honestly you couldn't tell until you compared them closely to the programme and even then we weren't fully sure because they were all so absolutely insanely talented!
You mean your boyfriend?
@@AndrewFrancisIlyrian what is your issue?
Saw this on Friday and the casting is just impeccable. Hades in particular was phenomenal I honestly couldn’t imagine a better one. But everyone was phenomenal. The production was beautiful too. I want to go again so bad. This cast is incredible.
Finally some appreciation for Hades. Couldn’t agree more
Patrick Page >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
@@braedenhill9434 this is how I know you haven’t seen Zachary James’ Hades live loool
@@ellien-w619 Patrick Page did it on Broadway. No hate to this guy, he's certainly better than the US National Tour Hades, but to come out and say some dude did it better than Patrick Page ever did when he was with the show for years and years and truly defined the role and how its cast is a step too far for me.
@@ellien-w619 alsoooo patrick got a tony nomination for his portrayal sooooo
Not me sat her sobbing and also looking at flights to London to see this cast...😭😭😭🤔🤔🤔
You gotta be quick cause our Eurydice will be leaving for NYC soon!
The west end knocks it out the park with casting
you guys need to know this persephone is the absolute best, seen her as persephone twice now and she blew me away both times, absolutely incredible! show stealer for sure
I'm trying to articulate and understand why an Irish Orpheus makes *so much sense*.
I wish this did the show justice, parts here sound slightly off but I've seen it twice so far (Opening night and the 11th) and it was so much better.
Yep it almost feels like there is something wrong with the monitors. Some vocals like the three ladies or the solo in the end were a bit off key.
Grace’s voice genuinely always gives me goosebumps. Her rendition of Wait For Me is unreal
Melanie La Barrie scares me. In a good way.
I've just realised why I found this performance so baffling on TV - they cut out a tonne of context at the beginning! I get it now. Looking forward to seeing this cast tonight.
Enjoy!
Donal Finn is so goddamn handsome wow
I love how there is someone with only one arm. it shows that anyone can do this if they try hard enough
i think there was someone with one arm in the origional cast too, im not too sure acctually 😭 but it really does show hadestown is for everyone
Or if casting is conscious, open, expansive & is committed to diversity
@@wolvzvr1896 Yeah, there was an amputee in the 2018 London production! And now they've casted one again for the West End production!
It also works with the story because the residents of Hadestown are desperate people/the first to die in the natural crisis following Persephone’s absence. People with disabilities can struggle much more in times of trouble than people without them. It makes sense that someone with a disability would take the deal to save themselves.
@@finleyforevermoreit’s the same actress - Beth Hinton-Lever and I believe she is one of the covers for eurydice this time.
I saw this twice on Broadway and this version hits differently
Omg Persephone and Hades are so hot!!! This cast is amazing!
I love the fates and their musical/melodical addition to the songs.
such intense emotion coming from the whole cast. absolutely breath-taking, every single one of them
I saw them about a month ago. Absolutely phenomenal. I sat sobbing at parts that never struck as hard before (Epic III, y'all... I'm still recovering). This cast is unbelievable.
And geez- Anything from this i could not believe- and now I have a reason to go! Persephone is BEAUTIFUL and has a great, GREAT voice! Same for Euridice, Hades, and Orpheus. The amount of emotion in this is so controlled, you wanna cry, but its also so happy!
This was phenomenal. Love this cast so much!! 🎉
oh, it's the Reprise! Yay!
We watched the matinee hadestown yesterday and was absolutely blown away. I’ve never had so many goosebumps, just incredible from start to finish ❤
Love love love this performance! It sounds so powerful with their incredible voices! Stunning show!🌹
I LOVE THIS MUSICAL
Just saw it today - my new favourite musical!
Saw it yesterday with this cast and it was absolutely phenomenal 🙏
Saw it during premier week and it was amazing! so so good
THIS IS SOOOO GOOD IM LOSING MY MIND
What a wonderful cast!
Beautiful
Oh I love this cast!!!!
I saw this cast live over the weekend and it was absolutely phenomenal. I was completely moved to tears, and I even cried on the subway home, it was so emotional and affecting, it reeally stays with you !
One of the best shows I have ever seen!
Great show just saw it in Philadelphia this past weekend with the touring cast.
Saw this in New York. Absolutely incredible
wow. what a cast.
IM OBSESSED (with the still from 2:05 (and them))
Literally watched this last night, its phenomenal live, this casting is amazing.
GORGEOUSSS OH MY GOSH!
This cast delivered one of the best performances I have ever seen. I can absolutly recommend Hadestown in London
I love this song😭
oh my god this performance is life changing.
I saw them live a few weeks ago and I honestly prefer this Donal as Orpheus as opposed to Reeve. I mean I LOVE Reeve, but Donal has such incredible emotions when he sings. He had me sobbing
Whoo Hades 😍🪭🪭🪭
Irish Orpheus is killing me
I NEED A TUTORIAL FOR THIS CAST
Also hoping for a tutorial for west end Sunset.
❤
Saw this at the weekend with my girlfriend, absolutely spellbinding truly a great experience
2:24 When Hades lets go of Persephone and touches his heart. 😭 💔
I saw these performers on the west end (although Madeline Charlemagne was performing as Eurydice that day). It was brilliant although the stand outs were the actors for Hermes and Hades
I love the OBC but can we also get a West End recording? 🤞
Hermes is intense!
I just watched this last weekend and I was in tears, I laughed and I felt every emotion inbetween - what a wonderful cast, for me the big standout star was Hermes ❤ I loved it so much
are they performing with an expanded ensemble for this? did they also include the stand bys and swings? it could be me but I don’t remember the cast being this big.
Mat Cauthon!
Is no one going to talk about how this ISN'T wait for me? It's the reprise!
They didn't give hadestown any awards and managed to mistitle the CZcams video. Flawless -_-
Apart from anything else amazing about this - let’s think for a moment about how likely it would have been in years past for a dancer with a partially missing limb to be cast in a mainstream big production.
are all of the swings on there as well?? the workers chorus is usually only 5 people
Yes! Love that they had the entire company in for this 🥰
😭😭😭
WHAT is this wig they put Hermes in??
Caribbean Hermes: 😍🤩😍🤩😍
In-tune singing: 😬🫣😟😱🙈😬🥴😵😵💫😬
This cast is absolutely incredible but for some reason I find hadestown with British accents absolutely hilarious
Orpheus is Irish
Literally only one person has a British accent lmao
@@Neoyoshgamer No? All the fates, Eurydice and most of the ensemble have British accents. Orpheus is played by someone from Ireland, Hermes is Trinidad, Hades is a yank and Persephone is a brit doing an accent.
Well I'm jealous of the UK now
Is that MAT FREAKING CAUTHON
saw it yesterday on west end and around 2 weeks ago on broadway
(written on 4/18/24)
i cant remember the names of the actors on stage
but west end hermes is so so good i really enjoyed the extras she put in
broadway hermes was awesome too some yakuza vibes he gave off
but female hermes was so much fun to watch, and in the serious moments she delivered the pain so well.
so did persephone and the fates
and ouf we didnt had the org cast hades but the ensemble one and he did so great! im glad we had him! at first glance you think
oh smol hades hihi (compared to the main cast from broadway)
and then he takes the whole stage over and you are like: oh wow wtfff
seriously great performance go watch it if you have the chance to
I’m going to be honest. When I saw Hadestown I was so disappointed. No chemistry whatsoever between anyone and I was bored to tears. But man if I had seen this production I feel like I’d be singing a different tune!! Well done to everyone in this production!! Caribbean Hermes is best Hermes!!!
2:31 WHO ARE YEWW😡😡😡
So he went to become Orpheus. Well I'll miss him in wheel of time
this one have a lot of minions.
Saw this here in San Diego. Don't kill me but I still prefer that cast by a lot.
i realize it's modified staging for the awards, but am i the only one that found this forced? this is one of my favorite songs from the modern musical era but i found this hard to watch. the performers are obviously amazing, but this staging was challenging. i feel for them.
I think the issue is, the choreography and staging for this number is reliant on the turntable. Ive seen it live and its so much better in person than translates on television. You don't get the same emotion. I will say though i cannot get enough of this cast. So good!
how so?
When I read that they picked this song for the Olivier Awards, I was surprised. This song really needs the turntable for the last part of the song right after the Fates. The visual of the road starting up under Orpheus’s feet and him starting to walk out of Hell is powerful, and Orpheus’s last chorus just reinforces that. Hermes delivering the last verse while Orpheus is just standing there, instead of while Orpheus is walking away, is also a little awkward.
They did the first Wait for Me for the Tony Awards, but without the visual of the walls, it loses something there as well. I think Way Down Hadestown would have been a better pick but I love the West End Hermes so I’m glad they went with this. The cast still did a great job, though!
This show absolutely needs to be experienced in a theater, the set design adds a lot to show. I’ve seen it three times now but I might go back for a fourth with the current cast in NY.
Think they’ll make it
Off in heavens
I don’t know
It's a crime they got no acting noms
bloody Mat Cauthon can sing, can't he mate?
But his acting here is...
The guy who plays Hades…. not gonna lie…. He’s Hot 🥵
Love this but I don’t like Hermes George Washington looking hair style. She is fabulous otherwise tho!
The accents are hilair! "Im coooomin" 😅
? I think they fit quite well
They created your language, to be fair. Love all the accent of the World
the accents gave a new dimension to Hermes that i really love
This is “Wait For Me - Reprise”, a better song would have been “Way Down Hadestown” or the actual “Wait For Me”
I think this version is good to showcase the main cast and some of the choreography. Wait for Me is a very Orpheus centric song, the Tony performance sort of worked around this to showcase the rest of the cast but it's still very much just Orpheus (and you don't get the cool lamps). Way Down Hadestown is a great choice actually to showcase the whole cast but I wonder if they don't do it because it's more dance heavy and almost 5 minutes and Eurydice doesn't sing in it?
Edit: to add, I think the song/performance doesn't necessarily from the lack of a turntable unless you've seen it with the turntable. Like, it only falls a little if you've seen it because of just how well it works, so expectations are working against you
@@kl-1447I imagine if they performed Way Down Hadestown they would cut out the dance break completely and maybe one verse from either Hermes or Persephone
@@kl-1447 Agreed -- this one you get Eurydice. Also: I think this is the part of the story that the largest proportion of an audience knows. Orpheus and Eurydice: oh right, the guy who went to Hades for his wife and turned around. So I think it's probably to pick the part that shows off the cast the best without needing any special staging AND that viewers will understand.
Ok wait I’m I the only one that feels like Hermes isn’t singing just kinda shouting? Like Andre de sheils walked the line perfectly but this is just a bit shouty for me.
Wistful sigh.
Vocally good, but acting-wise ... it's a no for me.
2019 Tony performance was so much better
Ok some of the accents are seriously throwing me off, especially Orpheus and Eurydice, it's heavily implied that this musical takes place in Great Depression era New Orleans, especially the style of music, it's just kinda goofy to watch
"Don't ask where brother dont ask when", to me always implied not to think too much about the setting
Why a female Hermes?
Why not?
She is phenomenal and a massive powerhouse.
There's a female one on broadway now. They are the storyteller, their gender isn't relevant.
@@dignature123 *was one on broadway
Because she’s clearly the best possible casting
Hermes has been played by a woman before but ok
This Orpheus is not good :-/
Eva and Reeve better
Woke
