    I watched this out of curiosity, was chuckling while you unloaded and dumped everything out on the ground. I guess the repacking will give you a chance to doublecheck everything to make sure you didn't forget anything. There is SO much stuff, I'd need a detailed checklist! Hope your race was a success and you fared well! Thanks for taking the time to do this video!

    I’m impressed with anyone who actually does multiday Bikepacking. To add on hard racing… in a fairway land… is at least 2 more notches up the badass scale. I dont know much about that race but your prep seems VERY detailed. Thanks for taking time to share, I learned a few tricks from you. Go Watt Wagon!

    Right angle cables are good. Straight ones require a lot of 'swing space'. Cables don't last forever on ultras either, so well done on having spares.

    • @wattwagon
      @wattwagon  Před 3 měsíci +1

      the angled cable is the only way! and yes, so often a cable can be lost or go bad so good to have spares!

    Hi Cynthia, amazing achievement and thanks for the vid!
    Do you think this is possible on a gravel bike? Mine has 40mm suspension fork with 45mm tyres, can go to 50mm or so you think I need more travel. Trying bto avoid buying yeh another bike so be good to understand your take on it?

    • @wattwagon
      @wattwagon  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It's definitely possible! I would say that you could do it without a suspension fork on a gravel bike at 40mm tires. I wouldn't advise going any smaller! the rocks are just kinda big out there. The gravel bike just means you may have to ride more cautiously out there. and thank you!!!!!!

    Cynthia don’t think you mentioned which saddle you used? Pretty critical for a >1000km mountainous race; I know our derrières are all different! Cheers

    I'm a fellow cyclist with a silly question that I don't see addressed with ultra endurance race breakdowns. During hard efforts it's hard for me not to think about how much faster I could be if I simply had a different vehicle. And imagining how much faster every event (and my commute) would be if simply raced on Baja-style dirt bikes is a thought that makes me go existential and fills me with doubt.
    I suppose I am thinking purely of "FKTs" or "cannonball records" and less so about the art of human-powered transportation. However, I doubt that there are any physical hurdles in the way of a gas-powered dirt bike from absolutely shattering current pedal-powered "course records."
    So, in a world where motorized and non-motorized events can happen simultaneously, do you think that AMR (and other courses, Continental Divide, etc) would benefit from being ridden/traversed FASTER (via motorization, etc)? Do you think that comparing motorized vehicle times to pedal-powered times could be dangerous to the popularity of the sport of ultra endurance cycling? Or do you sense that there will always be a draw for non-motorized FKTs? How do you keep those distinctions separate in your psyche?

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 Před 3 měsíci +2

      You keep those distinctions separate by recognizing reality. Simply pedal harder until the pain cave distracts you. Dont overthink it. That could make you crazy.
      I do lots of mental tricks to distract myself from the pain I experience when suffering on a bike whether training or racing. Usually I think about all the tasty food Im going to eat when I finally stop and how comfortable I'll be lying in my bivvy sack afterwards.
      Wishing I was riding my motor bike or driving my rock crawler is rarely on my mind when Im riding a bicycle.
      I will admit to feeling slow when I ride on public roads around motor vehicles. Its motivation to ride faster to get to dirt trails quicker to avoid the freakin motor vehicles!

    • @wattwagon
      @wattwagon  Před 3 měsíci

      i think at the end of the day- I got to where I was going on my own power. and that's WAY more empowering to me than the idea of using motorized transport.
