This video is honestly so great, I wonder how your channel doesn't have much views or growth!
But atleast I'll be sticking around.
lmaO Thank you! Glad you will be sticking around 🤗
It would be cool if you could give your input on the blackwing pencil like what you enjoy about it or maybe dislike etc.
Thank you...I'm now planning to buy all 3 palomino pencils ...the 601, the original and the pearl 😁 it's a bit expensive (cos shipping cost too is added) but I really want to possess them and make art with em...your review was really helpful...and your sketches are so amazing 😍
Hi! What is the title of that Sargent book, and can do more videos of you drawing from it?
Fantastic video well done.
If you can find a vintage Blackwing, the actual reputation of these legendary pencil(s) will shine. The original Blackwing was the pencil used by John Steinbeck for all his compositions; that's right, he hand wrote all those novels! It was also a favorite of award winning animator Chuck Jones, and other notable animators. There was one in particular whose final request was to be buried with his Blackwing. Good content! Enjoy the weekend.
Great video and a growing channel. 👍
I think the Blackwing brought some added depth and classicism to your sketching. If you’re not going to ink and you don’t carry a bunch of grades, it seems like a no-brainer.
I really like your videos! Have you tried any of the volumes pencils?? I just got the one-day release pencil and love it.
Lol same quality as the original
Example the 24 has same core as extra firm like natural
725 is balanced like pearl
The volume 4 is like the black blackwing pencil
Cool, what brand's the paper?
God bless you.
Very informative video
Christinia Peake Thank you!
What sketchbook are you using in the video?
Anastasia the small one is Strathmore Mixed Media 200 series, the larger is Strathmore Mixed Media 300 series
@@BrookeBowenArt thank you so much for the reply, I just started drawing again since I have this time during the quarantine, and wanting to get a new sketchbook. Your art is beautiful btw, really amazing!
Anastasia Thank you! My favorite sketchbook to use is actually from Red Barn Collections , they recycle old and vintage books. They are fun to use and while they are not filled with art specific paper, it is still nice paper that is great for sketches and drawings. I just ordered 3! Find a sketchbook that makes you excited every time you hold it and it will help you in your journey! There were a few years that I stepped away from art and know that it can take time to get back into it. Listen to when you feel resistance and try to find a way around it. I found myself paralyzed every time I stepped into my art space so I started to read art books every day as my art practice. Then I moved onto copying the drawings and paintings into my sketchbook in my bed (avoiding the paralysis in the studio). Months started to go by but it felt very quick when I started to crave my art time daily that then evolved into painting. I recognized that I wouldn’t want to paint every day, but if I kept my focus on spending 10 minutes a day on any art practice it would become easier. Now that I do it full time professionally my mind cannot get in the way of my work because I overcame that long ago. Good luck! And let me know if you need anything else!
@@BrookeBowenArt Thank you for the tips!! I will definitely look into the sketchbooks you mentioned and will look at sketchbooks that grabs my attention too. When I was in high school, I was drawing a lot in my free time and loved to draw animals, now that I started working full time, I stopped drawing for a long time and want to start drawing for fun again. I find drawing can be so calming (even if it isn't the best drawings) it takes my mind off things. I ordered some cheap sketchbooks from ebay but the papers are really thin, so I will be using those to test colors out, and that's why I am looking for new sketchbooks. I thank you very much for giving me tips and telling me your favorite sketchbooks, it really helps a lot! :)
@@BrookeBowenArt You mentioned art books to read. Which ones do you recommend?
The reason why it seems so much darker is because you are holding it so close to the base, try holding it more parallel to the paper and closer to the eraser
Ariel Blair That is a great technique to get lighter marks that I do use all the time. Have you had the chance to use Blackwing pencils?
@@BrookeBowenArt yeah I have all 3, soon to be 4
Ariel Blair awesome! Do you have a favorite?
I couldn't hear you over the annoying music. Can you do another?
