Make sure CO2 tank has dip tube, if not flip tank upside down. This should be included in instructions.
Interesting, did you measure the PSI of or weigh the bottle before hand to calculate the volumes of C02 used? also curious if you did what was the yield?. Thanks for sharing.
given the dry ice has density of 1.55-1.7 g/cm3 and the lump in the video looks like ~2 liters, it would be something like 3-3.4 kg of dry ice; a 5 liter compressed gas cylinder typically contains 3.75 kg of CO2 meaning that it would take pretty much the whole cylinder - plus there are losses as not all gas solidifies - you can of course make smaller pellets
So, guessing if you had the adapter for the CO2 bottle all you need is a bag to fit ?

Why no gloves did you not read the guidelines on Dry ice.
Seems there are few scenarios where there is value in making dry ice this way. One might be if you are a great distance from a supermarket selling dry ice for a buck-a-pound AND you happen to have a tank of co2 on hand AND you need a couple of pounds of dry ice. Another is if you are going to need a couple of pounds of dry ice at some point in the future and you have NO idea whether you'll be anywhere near a vendor because you are touring the wilderness. A tank of liquid co2 will last indefinitely, whereas a block of dry ice in even the best of insulated cooler will not. But if you need a couple of pounds of dry ice now and there's a vendor nearby, spilling a 20-lb tank of $20 worth of co2 in it to make a couple of dollars worth of dry ice is a bit wasteful - unless, of course, you are on house arrest with an ankle bracelet and U-happen to have a full co2 tank lying about. Having said all that, where can I buy the Penguin Basic Dry ice maker?
Here In germany you cant buy dry ice at all, this is the only way to get it, if you dint know anyone who works with it.

I get 20# tanks filled for $14 and here in the NorthEast nobody carries dry ice. So a 50-60mi drive round trip. It would be nice to know yield so I could do the math
I used the Penguin Basic Dry Ice Maker with a 50lb Syphonated CO2 tank and it worked great the first day used is (we only made about 4lbs of dry ice). the next day I started trying to make dry ice and nothing would come out. I took the tank up to the supplier and they told me that 2/3 of the tank had been used up from what I did the day before and they were not sure why the remaining CO2 would not come out. Do you have any idea what's going on? I'm not getting any help from the supplier.
You need to specify a cylinder with a syphon tube or dip stick so it draws liquid up from the bottom. (like a fire extinguisher) That might be the reason. Your cylinder as the pressure is released it can't force the liquid out the top and you only get vapour coming out.

@@chillbite2682 It will depend on where you are and how they mark it. It might say Syphon tube, Dip tube or call it liquid withdrawal. If it says vapour withdrawal it will not work. The easiest example for liquid withdrawal is a co2 fire extinguisher. However your supplier should be able to tell you what sort of cylinder you have.
