- Preparations for the 2022 racing season are underway. In this video we show you how we feed our pigeons prior to, and during, the breeding season. We also show you our breeding pairs for the season and finally we'll give you our initial verdict on the Hermes nestboxes that we've installed in the loft.
The birds are looking a treat despite your recent inclement weather you obviously have the ventilation sorted to deal with all that mother nature dishes out ... keep up the good work ✌

Is there some kind of water spray or sponge on them that keeps them looking so pristine (yellow) or do you wash them yourself as they pass over the end roller?

Hi Andrew. The boxes were around £4000 in total but will hopefully last for years. The ones in the video had only been lived in for a few weeks but the yb perches have had better use. Yes we wash the scrapers and sponge the belt to keep it clean and also oil the chain motor. It's pretty straightforward and save a lot of time so has worked out well.
@@carwynharrisracingpigeons9387 Not a bad price that I reckon, we only fit new boxes about 3 years ago so won't be replacing them in a hurry but we will definitely consider them when the time comes for a change.

Have you stopped making videos as i have not seen any this year.
I'm starting up this year so going to be racing ybs this season, i will be starting with a 15 -20 ybs do you think it can be done with such a small team?
Hi Geoff. Yes it can be done however you'll need lady luck on your side. The biggest issue we face is training the birds by car prior to racing. If the birds experience a BOP attack and panic then it's not uncommon to lose 50% of the birds. Good luck though 👍
May i ask why did you stop using beyers? Price comparison between matador or quality?
We were really impressed with the quality and I wouldn't hesitate to use Beyers corn again. However it didn't improve our results in 2021. There are of course many factors to gaining success and we wouldn't say that our results weren't as good because we changed the feed slightly but we're going back to what we know and what worked for us previously which was solely using Matador. We've been guilty of trying new products which haven't improved our results so are going back to basics somewhat in 2022.
Hello mate can you tell me what you feed your ybs when thay start to fly around the loft and do you feed am and pm or just pm
We continue to feed them on Matador breeding mix until they're around 8 weeks old. We'll then switch them to the young bird mix. We'll feed them once per day when we start to let them out to keep them under control. We'll add a small amount of Hormoform and pellets to their feed to ensure they have a good balanced diet.

@@jasonreading1773 the Schroeder Tollisan product Vermin Stop Bath tends to be the most popular. We drop our birds with U200 after weaning. We'll check them again when we start training them and do them again if necessary.

Could you tell me the details of the pellets you use please
Hi Dennis. They're Bosmolen BOS pellets. We've always used a small amount of a supplementary pellet and have found these to be as good as any.
Do you guys have issues with falcons?
Yes falcons, sparrowhawks and goshawks. March and April are the worst months and then again in September. It's a daily battle and we're always on guard.

Hiya Chris. Yes we're still racing and enjoying the sport but time is against me these days due to me doing the majority of the work due to my dad's advancing years. I haven't given up the camera yet, maybe a few Christmas specials or something 🤣. Thanks for watching Chris.
