RJ Mitte of 'Breaking Bad' on Living with Cerebral Palsy

- You probably know actor RJ Mitte from his role on Breaking Bad, where he played a teenage son living with cerebral palsy. Well, that wasn't an act, RJ has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy since the age of 3, but he hasn't let that stop him from accomplishing his goals, and he's used his success to help others.

I didn't know he actually had Cerebral Palsy, I thought he was just a really good actor. He's still a good actor either way
are u kiddin me cmon really? that makes me wonder how many people actually thought that
I'd make me the argument that he's still a really good actor.
Me too, as long as he eats breakfast
@@evn2787 I thought that. I don't understand why that's so surprising to you. 🤔🤔

the fact his character in BrBa was treated like everyone else on the show, and was never characterized as just "the disabled kid" is amazing.
obviously? bare minimum dude
he was only i believe three times and every time walter had to defend him
@@ooolaty It was worded weirdly, but I think he meant as in Junior's character wasn't just being disabled.
@@ooolaty usually when there is a disabled character in media their disability tends to make up most of their personality/is the sole reason they are there. so seeing stuff like this is nice. I don't see why bare minimum can't be appreciated.
All he does is eating breakfast LOL
I met RJ on vacation while we were checking into the hotel. I didn't want to be bothersome so I just said, "Hi RJ, loved your work on Breaking Bad!" gave a wave and tried to walk away. He called me over and we had a great conversation. He's a very nice person. Very genuine.

I was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy when I was three or five. It was actually a challenge to do basic day to day things that would include my right leg and hand. I used to feel so embarrassed when people used to stare at my leg while walking or running. I did physiotherapy for four to five years and it improved a lot. I stopped walking on my toes and gained a little control over my right hand and fingers, enough that I'm able to play guitar and do some basic finger plucking. I started playing badminton, got into music and completed my high school. I'll be joining a college this year... and yeah..., idk why I wanted to write this down somewhere so bad.
congratulations, that’s such a huge achievement!! good luck!!

Honestly I don’t think he’s a very good actor, he was so cringey on breaking bad, he also looked like he was 24 and played a kid who just turned 16 for the later seasons. Sadly, it's actually the last words he ever said to his father, Walter White.
he is truly amazing. he's the type of human you'd love to be pals with. that smile is contagious.
when i first watched breaking bad i thought he was just playing a part, i can't say how relived and excited i am as a disabled person knowing an actual disabled guy played a disabled character . and the fact they hired someone with cerebral palsy for the part makes me so happy. i use arm crutches myself so seeing walt jr in show makes me feel, like he said, seen. even if i have a different disability than him i feel like us disabled folk get each other and feel at home and comfortable with each other. it's awesome. love this video and love him
Could you imagine being disabled and still going on to act when you have to stand on stage and know that some stigma still exist? Respect.

Legend. Not only is he a good actor, he uses his fame to change the world. Lots of people see him online so it’s easy for him to spread a message. I love him.
This was honestly inspiring, might be a little trite to say but fighting through that adversity is admirable. Love this actor and I hope he gets more roles
Couldn’t agree more
Hey, to the people saying "I thought he was just a good actor" and "I thought he was actually acting..." etc. He is a great actor. He still has to act:
Flynn's level of CP is higher than his own: he doesn't actually need the crutches. That means he had to change his physicallity, like many other actors do for their roles. Flynn's backstory and journey are diffrent than his own, and he was playing a character based on a late friend of Vince's. Also, just like everybody else, he had lines to learn.
So just because he had that dissability already doesn't mean he had to act less.
I just had to get that out there. I have CP too and it bothers me to see you guys underrating him.
Edit: thanks for all the thumbs up and replies everyone. It's important to me, as a fellow CP, that people realize that RJ's work is just as valid even if he has CP. I'm happy to see some of you have reconsidered your view on all this because of this comment.
Also kudos for the casting directors to go with someone who actually has the disability instead of an able-bodied actor.
Yeah for sure. First of all, why would they hire an able-bodied actor to play the role of someone with CP? Of course he actually has it. And second of all, that doesn't make him any less of an actor. He's still an amazing addition to the show so shut up
❤️
He is great as always 💪💪💪 a great actor.
He wore crutches tho when he was young. Still, he's an amazing actor❤
I think you're slightly misinterpreting those peoples context. I can only speak for myself but I don't think the implication is that because he actually has CP that he's not a good actor, I think they're referring specifically to his portrayal of CP though. All that said I agree he is a good actor in general. I don't think Breaking Bad had a single actor that wasn't great in their own way tbh
Sorry, we didn't talk to him about breakfast.

This made me smile, glad to see Walt Jr. is doing well in his career.
I’ve also had cerebral palsy since birth, and the leg problems he speaks of are almost identical to mine. It’s so motivating to see that I’m not alone. That someone else also sees the disability as normal. We’re no different than any other people out there. People ask “what’s it like living with cerebral palsy?” But I just say “what’s it like living without it?” It’s absolutely normal and we shouldn’t let it bring us down, only strengthen us
