That GBC Tomb Raider game is, indeed, a real game. I played it a lot back in the day, but never beat it due to bullshit puzzles. Y'know, the sort of puzzles that go "You hit a switch, now something is _slightly_ different on the other side of the planet"

Pokemon Brown is actually pretty fantastic. There aren't many quality early gen hacks.
Which is inexcusable. All you need for 1st Gen Rom hacks is very basic ASM knowledge.
The 64th Shadow Well on the other side of the coin, Gen 1 is kind of small, and there isn't a good way to edit maps/pokemon without programming knowledge

I think Joel got an old build of Pokemon Brown. Its actually a pretty quality and ambitious romhack. On the off chance you ever play it again, make sure you play it in color.
There were two versions. One that didn't really amount to anything in 2004 or so, and the 2009 remake using assembly knowledge

some of them are defintly not GBC games, but alot of ports are poorly made, andometimes when you play a rom incorrectly, it loads a GBC color type pallet, so it ends up looking bad.
The Drunken Coward Joel is using a gba emulator which runs gb, gbc, and gba games. So technically he's still playing gba.

There was RPG Maker on the GBC? I was aware of the GBA version, just didn't know they made a GBC one. Wonder if anyone translated it into English.
The music and most, if not all, of the sound effects in the fighting game at 36:56 were ripped from King of Fighters '95 for Gameboy. Definitely unearthed some memories I'd not thought about in many, many years.

The first "bootleg" is actually pretty decent romhack of pokemon red. It has a whole new region, improved graphicks of pokemon and pokemon from future generations! (yes, in a gen 1 game). Exept it seems, that whoever compiled this list for Joel for some reason put an old version there...

One thing to note about that pokemon digimon bootleg.
If you press select on the character select screen, it switches over to the digimon characters. Kinda useless to point this out now, but thought I'd point it out to people who boot up the bootleg.

Most of these bootlegs are on the original Game Boy and Game Boy Colour, with a few exceptions.

The problem you have with your ROM file at one hour into this video (ffd file) could mean that your emulator requires the abilities to play a Famicom Disk System game. Not many emulators have that functionality. You can Google search FFD emulators all day so get one and then try that FFD file on the new emulator.
