I've just bought a brand new 10th Gen Kindle, but my 4th Gen, purchased 11 years ago, is still going strong (and it's fully updated) and for sale on Gum Tree.
BTW, I used to have the same issues with PDF and the strange formatting, but have recently discovered that, if you download the PDF and then attach it to and email, send it via WiFi to your Kindle email address with the word "convert" in the "subject" area, then the job is done for you and it looks great on the page and you can adjust the font size etc, via the normal channels.
The only thing you can't do is access the individual chapters etc. in the "contents menu," or flick back and forth between chapters.
You can do the same with "mobi" files, although there's no need to insert the word "convert" into the subject area.
Saves a lot of faffing about with cables/dragging and dropping etc! 😉👍📚

I've heard about this, but as of now this 4th generation is old, most of us buy it second-hand and don't have the Kindle email. Unless there is a way for second-hand customers to get one? I could not find a way.
Does text to speech work still work on this tablet? Or is this feature also discontinued for the 4th gen touch

Would this updating help fix an unresponsive left page turn button (the larger one)? The smaller page back button above it works fine but for some reason the larger one doesn't do anything. Both page turn buttons on the right work fine.

Appreciate any further help. I have a 4.4 kindle that I bought many years ago. I just put a new battery in after not using it for several years. I downloaded the updated file as instructed but received message about certain properties could not be copied and thus have not been able to get kindle to update using file. all this time i used calibre to ut books into my kindle. I was hoping for a tutorial to have the last read book on the block screen do you know how i do that? Its a mod for jailbroken kindles

have a very specific question, I converted all pdfs and epug files to mobi, so that I can read them on my kindle using Calibre. But no images were kept inside the pages of the books.. is there a solution to this?

I don't think mobi supports images. the Kindle in the video supports azw3 as well with that format it shows me the images of the covers once I have started reading

how much storage did the update take of the kindle? cz i cannot use internet because i do not have the latest update. but the update takes 150MB to download onto the laptop. on the kindle i only have less than 2GB remaining, so if it takes 150MB to download onto the laptop, does it mean it would also transfer all 150MB onto kindle, or would kindle only take some files of the 150 and not all?

Hi! Were you able to sign into an Amazon account after updating? My 4th gen is on version 4.1.4 and I am unable to log in to my Amazon account and access my content. I saw someone else in the comment section was having similar issues but was curious if it was fixed after updating, since mine is on the newest update (for the 4th gen) and still isn't updating.

You still have the option to download from Amazon bookstore. This is just another way to add books onto your Kindle device.
I can still download from the book store on this device. Battery life has depleted a lot over the years though.

Hi, I have this kindle generation 4 software updated to 4.1.4, trying to enter email and password and even though they're correct I still get a message that they don't match. Time is outdated on the device and I don't know how to update it, in case it's the cause of fault. Is there's any solution/advice on how to fix this please? Many thanks in advance

I have kindle 4 and I tried Kindle Basics 10, kindle paperwhite 3rd gen. Kindle 4 is still the winner. Most of my books are courses and the Sans Serif font looks much better on the Kindle 4.
@@dianezst321 I actually bought the kindle voyage after my 4. I think it actually looks better, but that's not the reason I bought it, it has some absolut killer features and I only paid around 60 bucks for it, while the 4 was around 30. I don't think the 4 has any advantages over it...

There are 2 options for me right now that is Kindle 4 (40$) and paperwhite(90$) should I go for paperwhite (2016) or will Kindle 4 do its job? I'm new to reading books and I'm a bit tight on my budget so paperwhite is a bit Outta my budget, so should I save more and go for paperwhite or will Kindle 4 be more than enough? And btw loved the way you explained everything so clearly :D

I have had a kindle 4 since 2011 and it still works, but eventually the battery will die and for the price it doesn't make sense to replace it.
I plan to make a video on how to replace the battery. Although the price of a used Kindle 4 is ~$15, it still has great functionality and I actually prefer it over other models given the absence of back lighting. It is also is portable, easy to use, and I don't need to worry too much about losing it because its low cost.
It's not that epub has bigger text, it's the problem pdf it's only on one page level, but epub is like a webpage. You can use calibre program to copy, convert, and sync files. Before using a new device, deregister any amazon account, and maybe factory reset. It it's jailbroken, factory reset doesn't remove the jailbreak, you just have to reinstall the jailbreak update file to install it

The 2011 Kindle 4 is no longer supported. You will have to manually update it using Amazon’s instructions for devices that are no longer supported. You’ll need to update it manually about 3 times to get to the newest version. Once you’re fully updated, you’ll be able to download books from Amazon again - just like this video shows 🤔🧐

What is the purpose of updating the software?
The old software had bricked the kindle. Wouldn’t connect to wifi or receive books.
How about batery life in 2021? Its still good ?
Battery life is still fine for me. It is not back lit and doesn't seem to drain the battery very much, although I have heard of some people requesting a tutorial on changing that battery. If enough people are interested I might do a tutorial :)

Changing batteries for e-readers in general would be good. I’ve a Kindle Oasis 1 that drains fairly quickly because all the bells and whistles take up so much energy (I end up keeping it plugged in) 🔋💦

This is not an hack... you are simply loading on your kindle some ebooks that are not from the store. But this is already possible without the update

This is a good video - but the video refers to hacking the kindle which this isn't doing (by any definition of the word hack). I think most people looking for some help jailbreaking would think this video would do the job, but unfortuneytly it's not covered.

I'd say this has a very misleading title, as its not much of a hack as such, as it is something you need to do for this to work and login to register your kindle.
If you are having trouble logging into the Kindle with your details knowing that is is correct and you are using 2fa, login as normal and if you get a text with the number, make note of it and put your password in as normal and then add that 2fa number to the end of the password and it should log you in. If you are using authenticator, try using the number from that as that should work as well. As i had to do this to login to my kindle as this guy doesnt tell you this.
You can add your books through calibre also, if you want to add the metadata and covers to your books if needed.
But yeah kind of misleading as this didnt contain any "Hack" or DIY to this simple guide.

Well intentioned people can come from any location. Nation states may collide but their citizens remain, independent in their thoughts and beliefs.
@@AllanRyan Very profound. I'm not going to claim to be an expert on Russian culture, but hacking is one of the few things encouraged and backed by a government it's people live in constant fear of. People that largely are brainwashed from birth to hate the west, and particularly the US. Undoubtedly not all the citizens fall for, but most reports seem to say it's still surprisingly effective. I stand by my assessment for this particular case, and will take a hard pass.
