But: How can I prevent the contuors for getting thicker and thinner while scaling a shape without a fill?
Looks horrible when I try it. Either I see nearly no horizontal line when I decrease the rectangle or the horizontal line is getting fatter when I increase the rectangle.

But you can also do this by adding a trim path right? Although you have to draw the rectangle with the pen tool...

Press Ctrl+Alt+Home, this will put the anchor point right in the center of your object. then, you can move it anywhere you want.
