Oh Marianne... That A Support left me crying the first time I saw it. The fact that she was able to get over wanting to die and was able to find a newfound purpose in her life made me so happy for her.
Her timeskip design helps emphasize this change as pre timeskip she looks tired and somewhat dead inside. Post timeskip looks much happier and more lively and when she smiles it comes off as way more genuine.

I remember visiting the goddess tower and picked the "to see you smile" option. Then, after the first post time-skip battle when I saw her smiling. I couldn't handle it. Seeing her happy, I nearly cried.

Marianne's style of growth seems to be based on the idea of faith: She learns to have faith in herself, she learns to have faith in the people who care for her, and her religious faith changes from a crutch to a strength.
As a religious person who has had issues in all of these departments, I find Marianne's story to be kind of inspiring.
Wow, now this was a story I wasn't expecting.
It's truly beautiful when video games do things like this to us

I slightly just realized that Marianne's prayers had always been listened to ever since the start of the game (if you chose to talk to her that is). And in essence you were guiding her and probably taking her (depending if you chose a different house).
Fun fact: if you are not playing GD and you don't recruit Marianne before the timeskip, you never see her again. Her A support implies that she killed herself.
Edit: just to clear the confusion: if you don't recruit Marianne, you don't see her again. IF YOU DO RECTUIT HER and do her A support, it is implied that, had she not met you, she would have killed herself. This does not mean she did do it, but it is very likely.

These four support dialogues have better writing, acting and character development than most TV shows. Really pulls an emotion out of the watcher.
check out the Bernadette supports. Shit is messed up. She doesn't grow the way that marianne does but it's still really good.

@@mikethepokemaster2012 there's even a "hidden" link attack advantage if they had the ability to support within the game's code (ex: like how Felix x Ingrid x Sylvain all get +[1,2 or 3] Mt in addition to the normal boosts to Hit and Avoid depending on the Support levels between them) but since Marianne and Bernadetta don't have any support conversations to receive that unique boost there's no possible way to take advantage of this. Maybe there were plans to give both of them a support but were cut early on or it never materialized past the stages of planning.

That she gives *you* a ring is such a wonderful conclusion to her character and a truly beautiful moment in the game. Not many other female characters offer Byleth a ring first and all of them are essentially shown to be outgoing, confident or even tough from the get-go (Rhea, Constance, Shamir and I think a few others?) But to have Marianne, who’s on par with Bernadetta for low self esteem at the start of the game just speaks volumes to her strength and growth over time. Great writing, great character, still my first best girl :)
I just love Xanthe. She’s an amazing voice actress. She plays my daughter Eir in Heroes, and now best girl Marianne. Can’t wait for her to come to Heroes, my dudes.

Bro, I waited to the last minute to try to recuit bernadetta. I was under the rule to recuite very few people to keep it realistic. After I learn more about her, I tried EVERY trick in the book to get her before timeskip; I failed miserably. I can say I INDEED felt like ABSOLUTE CRAP after slaying her! I legitimate had watery eyes after being reminded; I couldn't save her!
Well, my DUMBASS got what I wanted😭 I still try to keep the recruitment count low to enjoy the sadness in the game. I recuit two from each house; being two females from black eagles and two males from blue lions, with the exception of Bernadetta, which make 1 more. My first playthrough I only recruited Dorothea.
If play your cards right, one of em dies anyway.
Believe it or not, this was my first "S" ranked support that I did for my MC. I really did like the ending of the Golden Deer route and I loved how these two became King and Queen at the end. To add more about this pairing, It became more impactful when I did her Paralogue and had her go to the Goddess tower on the Ball chapter. Totally worth it.

I'm doing the same but in Blue Lions. None of the girls called my attention so I brought Marianne.
Did the same mate, to me she was te right choice since the begin of my Golden deer route.

Her and Mercie are the only ones that caught my interest so far
a lot of ppl overlook marianne but in all honesty, i never realized how fucked up i was until i watched marianne's supports. we share a lot in common, her relationship with her father is similar to mine except with my mother. her only opening up to animals and the goddess is me except with fictional characters/stuffed animals and to god or sometimes my dad. when she meets the professor, she realizes she has purpose, not because of him but because of herself. im a privileged girl with all the therapy and medication yet for some reason, just playing this game makes me realize how much i appreciate my own life. the times i tried ending my life because of some petty people, i hope to never do again because i appreciate the game so much, as ridiculous it seems, these characters treat me better than 80-90% of people in my life. i hold it close to my heart always and forever.
It takes some fortitude to look at oneself honestly. Hope you're doing better.

She was my first choice when first playing through the game. That moment where she gives you a ring makes still gets me to this day. She is the most precious person and a great unit, and I refuse to play this game without her on my team.

I love how Marianne represents most teens that has to deal with depression or suicidal and people that wants to be alone. I mean people go through tough times in their lives and want to be alone or feel like they are burden to anyone that they get too attached or that they don’t feel comfortable getting close too until years later when people get older they start to be proud of what they have achieved and accomplish and how strong they have gotten from the pain the people endured from all those years, how much the people have been through and walked through their journey I think that’s why a lot of people loved her because she represented themselves when they were younger and when she gets recruited and get married you see how happy and strong she has become over the obstacles she went through and it shows that anyone can have a happy ending

This was my first ending I chose when I first played this game. That ending artwork was just soooooo pure. I love Marianne! She's my favorite in Three Houses.
I really teared up at the A Support. S-S-Support however... Tearing up is an understatement.
I broke down especially when I saw her face lit up looking at you and smiling ... Petting your hand as if it was a bird...I ..I love Marianne...
The first thing I do on a New Game+ is recruit Marianne. I hate playing her paralogue, more than anything, but I will NEVER let her be alone and die.
Here's a tip, Mairice will not attack Marianne unless another one of your units enters the clearing. There is actually little rush, so you can take your time making your way around the map, clearing out the enemies while Marianne just chills right next to Maurice.
I love how she tells him that she's suicidal but he makes her stronger, and his face is 🗿. I would at least raise an eyebrow.
Marianne is actually a fantastic character. I really like these supports!

Out of all the characters with their different charms or appeal. Listening to Marianne is so common place it's realistic which makes her great. Just wanna help her, walk in with her troubles together to be better. 😄

It was honestly a really tough call which of the Golden Deer girls I wanted to S Rank with on my first run, but I ended up going with Lysithea in the end. Seeing this and how she proposed to Byleth made me instantly regret everything, but oh well, she married Claude in that ending, so at least she had someone.

I have only played through the three routes so far, but the "Byleth x Marianne" romance has been the most satisfying for my male Byleth. Not to mention I just really enjoyed the VW (Golden Deer) route. There is still so much I haven't gotten to. I know I am late to playing this game but I am loving it and most of the characters.
This is super sweet! One of the best I think. Kinda wish she let her hair down just once, just for Byleth at the end. Sort of a, "I'm a new woman now, because of you" moment. An outter (perhaps more confident) change to reflect her inner change.
I mean I wouldn't cry foul if getting her S rank let you change her hair to the long version in game for the rest of your New Game+ playthroughs though...
She asks the goddess for guidance, and immediately Byleth is there, ready to provide it.
This is one of, if not, the greatest MC S Support in the entirety of the Fire Emblem Franchise. Just read the other comments to learn why.
