Minor spoilers guide to getting to know this fantastic game.

There are 5 secret floors.
Only smash chests if you aren't flush with keys in the early part of the game.
Brown chests can provide more utility by giving you something in addition to the primary loot in the chest, like a key. For example: If I only have one key left after opening the higher quality chest room chest, and there is a Blue chest that spawned on a room clear, and a Brown chest in a chest room, I will open the Brown one first, even if I know it has a gun.
Something I don't talk about in that tutorial is dodge rolling at a table and flipping it when you arrive.
You can link the invincibility of the dodge roll directly to the table flip making you invincible for a while.
Also, tables are often placed a dodge roll apart so you can enter a room and dodge roll at a table, flip it, dodge roll at another table, and flip the next one.
There are rooms where this is really useful, especially when you are under powered. Being able to position yourself in the room and also create extra cover reduces the chance you will get pinned under fire.

Still hasn't beated the game, but it was really close.
I also noticed my performance at the game increased a lot after changing some video settings, so if you could cover them in a tutorial soon it would be great.

Well, im at at least 110 with 2 runs completed, no past killed, the bullet assembled and i have beaten the oubliette and the R&G dep.
I've died 332 times but I haven't died in over 30 runs.

Great, to the point video. I had to rewind many times due to the fast pace of the video. Talking a bit more slowly and separating the different topics/tips would go a long way in making the pacing better. Separating as in not immediately jumping to the next bit like it's the same sentence. Don't take it the wrong way, this was still amazing.
Thanks for the comment, and suggestions. For some reason I was obsessed with making this as short as possible because of all the long tutorial videos I had seen (and given up watching).
When it comes to making and watching video, I like fast paced stuff you would rather rewatch than not even finish watching, but I went overboard with this one.
Titles, and spacing of each section would improve this video like you said and I will take this into account for future videos, I would like to remake this video at some point, but that likely won't happen until next winter.
I actually really enjoy the fast pace, it makes it so that a lot of information comes at me very quickly before I get bored or dose off. I have adhd so I lose concentration easily.

Thank you so much!! One of my life goals is to make quality videos that help people help themselves. It's super hard teaching yourself how to do things (I'm self taught for video) and so I've learned that having a fun project really helps get you going. Making this video taught me a lot of info management skills that have already applied to other non Gungeon tutorial video work in my life.
You can definitely kill your past! You just have to be patient.
All suffering is created by desire, if you relax into enjoying this game, it will go a long way. It took me way too many hours of frustration to understand this game has no end and the only point to playing it is fun, and personal improvement.

I’m not a beginner but I watched this video anyways and learned a ton of stuff that I never knew. This isn’t a beginner guide that teaches you the obvious stuff, it’s one that teaches you little tips that you wouldn’t normally think about that just make your time a little bit easier, and it’s useful for more than just beginners.

That looking at your character tip is something that I wish was in other videos
I'm surprised it isn't, it's probably one of the things I see suggested most on the Gungeon Reddit.
It is a good tip if you don't have good awareness of your position using only your peripheral vision

I've played Gungeon a long time, and recently devised a little challenge for myself.
I'm trying to beat the whole game on a new save file and pick up every item without dying. You shall know when I've succeeded by when I post a picture to the subreddit with 0 deaths on the file, holding the Finished Gun.
So far it's not going well (thanks heaps Daisuke!) but I'm still having fun doing it (and restarting, and doing it, and restarting...) because Gungeon is a great game.
I tried that on the new save file I made when Farewell to Arms dropped. Death count on that file is 25 cause fun is the priority and I play the game tired a lot, and not dying + tired ≠ fun.

There are many good brown or blue chest guns. Always weigh your options carefully before junking a chest.
Totally, in fact I open Brown before Blue now. When I release a new version of this guide there will be a bit more details given on chests, there will be more details given in general as well.
There are amazing items in all the chest categories and the only reason I recommend smashing a chest is because you don't have enough keys.

I actually stopped doing that in the last few months and haven't really noticed a big difference, but I would never tell someone to not do it themselves, it's definitely an awesome trick.

I made this guide for past me when I started, I spoiled so many parts of the game because I was frustrated, and looking back I see I could have been more patient.

I try to reply as much as I can, people have pointed out a lot of things I want to change. My plan is to take all the feedback into account when I make a new version of this guide.
Very well edited and informative vid. It was entertaining too and had me engaged the whole time. Only thing I'd say is the pacing and speed is a bit too much too fast. Maybe just keep this video and name it "Bite/Bullet-sized Gungeon Beginner's Guide." That way, you can make more expansive and in depth guides later, maybe even covering the different facets in this one each in a separate vid. Whatever you'd like to do, just a suggestion. Even after 500 hours of playing, I thought I knew enough to have enjoyable runs, but then this introduced other aspects to me that will make things even more fun. One example is how you can change the order of guns through gun dropping and picking them up in the order you'd like. It's so simple but I didn't even know about that. Anyway, thanks again for the video. I love Gungeon a ton as well in addition to making videos for it, and would be up for further discussion if/whenever you're up for that.
I’m happy you found it entertaining, I found the other guides online to be really dull so I wanted to make something exciting.
I made this video before Farewell to Arms was released so there are few things I want to change and even the audio recording is something I want to redo.
I’ll make a new version of this next winter, and I will make other more in depth videos as well.
So far my videos plans are:
Every boss fight in a single video
A run with every single character going to all floors and doing all the things
A revised beginners guide with titles, a slower pace, a few more bits of info I’ve learned since I made this video
Possibly I might make a video showing off some of the more interesting item and gun interactions, this depends on me being a bit better at info management, but I’m up for the challenge!
I won’t be able to record voice over until winter most likely, but I plan to post the raw runs along with a general script in the description for each so that people can still get the info if they want it now.

it was my first time on the forge tho... which is good and bad
I think my death count was 160 or more before I beat the stage 5 boss for the first time.
I beat the stage 4's boss at 75 death, I screamed out of joy thinking I beated the game which followed a scream of agony when I saw "stage five" on the screen
I made it to the forge 3 times and died 58 times

Beat the game for the first time with marine yesterday and beat it the next day as hunter, so hunter is definitely the best choice for a new player, I’m just a Marine Boi
What I love about single player games like this is no one can tell you what you enjoy about it, and how you should play. Sure there are optimal strategies, but it's all gonna come down to what is fun for you. :) Cheers!
I beat my first past after 4 tries because I got a good combo of items: ring of triggers, IBomb companion app, and the RPG.
I beat it from a similar combo. Grappling hook, blank companion ring, and rpg. trigger and blank rings work really well with active items that recharge quick.
I have bought a Playstation 4 in the summer of 2017 and the first game I bought for it was Enter the Gungeon. I played it for a bit, kept dying, finally reaching the Dragun in October of the same year, dying. I don't really rage quit at games but I was hoping to beat him first try so I stopped playing. Until not doing that, of course, and reaching the Dragun again in February of 2018. And dying again. All this time I really sucked at the game (as expected) and both of my Dragun attempts were mostly based on luck. Then a long period of Gungeon being that one game that I still have installed, but never play had begun and I still thought the game was really cool, but there's no fun to be had when losing. I have 550h in Isaac, although I wouldn't say there is skill to be shared in the games. I don't really know what made me come back exactly, but in April of 2019 I was like "Yeah, I'm gonna fucking beat this piece of shit game" and I kept playing for about 3 days and finally beat the Dragun, after 60h of gameplay. As I sort of expected, something clicked and I kept beating pasts and unlocking new stuff and so on and so fourth, and now I'm here. I died on the "double" Lich fight, and I couldn't unlock the Gunslinger on my first attempt, so I still have that to do. Also I have yet to master the Rat's punchout phase, thus also never fighting the Advanced Dragun. Besides that and a few other bits and pieces, in 2 weeks I have discovered the true nature and fun of this game and have to acknowledge how great it is, basically beating most of it. Gungeon became something very personal for me, since after trying for 2 years (on and off, with large breaks) I have finally managed to be at least decent at it. I don't the think winning every run is that far off for me, or being able to easily play turbo mode.
This video is also really great for showing that CZcams isn't really truly dead (for starting off, I mean), since I found this on my recommended page, which means small CZcamsrs still have a chance. :D
I also noticed on your first video that you play Gungeon on Mac, which made me think if it would be worth to switch to M&K, or to at least have Gungeon be a lot more portable on my Macbook, but that really doesn't matter that much.
After all my rambling, I have to say that this is a great video nonetheless, and I also encourage anyone to try and dig into this piece of shit hard game.

unfitjoke the original isaac comes only slightly close to the level of hardness that awaits you in enter the gungeon and yes, I also included wrath of the lamb and finishing every character on the new difficulty (and even then I don’t have all Boy Achievements, the 1 % who got them can go fuck themselves, just like my 100% completion)

I like how you said passives and active are better than guns, when some of the best players in the game like Abe Clancy say guns are better then those two lol so conflicting
You don't need many guns to win, I haven't watched Abe Clancy much but in my opinion the best players at this game aren't the most popular. Streamers and CZcamsrs are popular for their entertainment value and how they interact with their followers first, and then their ability to play the game in an entertaining way second.ETG has so much variety and depth to it so that I find it hard to evaluate what "best" would mean.
Do you think guns are more important than actives and passives?
Enter the Gungeon Tutorials I’m just saying I’ve watched a couple CZcamsrs to help me play better and you were the first to say that passives are better than guns. I do agree with you on the passives. I say you should have two to three boss killer weapons and four or five room clearers and then nothing but passives. But having a bunch of passives can be a bad thing, because some counter each other and make them absolutely useless. Some just suck (FRICKING BATTLECOG). But I’d rather have a bunch of passives, so I gotta give it to you my man.
super cobble Ull find that when you get really comfortable with the game you just use ur starting gun till 4th floor, excluding bosses maybe. Then you can just steam role. It’s just easier then using all the gimmicky weapons imo

Description says spoiler free. First couple seconds show what I assume was a clip from the end of the game and a clip of a boss. I also didn’t know the game had an actual end. I know I’ll probably get flamed or called stupid BUT I’m almost positive that was a spoiler. It was for me. Only started playing when it became free on the epic store. Figured I would say something because that made me stop the video. You got my view I guess.

As for spoiling that the game has an end, I think it's important to know when you start this game that you play it for fun, not to beat it. I played the game to beat it and spoiled so damn much that I think a lil spoiler like that is okay, because I'm trying to get you to not look anything up about this game with this video.
Huh.... good tips actually. Like no joke really good advice. Most tip videos prove obvious and kinda eh but this proved nice. Although personally I prefer the pilot character, I see why the hunter is good but the pilots “disarming personality” is a slow burn and a half of a passive. Later floors make it entirely possible to buy out bello.
Thanks for the comment, it's is really nice to see the work and thought I put into this recognized (even if the video could use more polish). Pilot is my absolute fav pick in the game above every other choice. Everything about his kit outshines the other choices. Lock pick (sometimes) gets you into chests you wouldn't open otherwise. Disarming Personality buys more things for you all run. Hidden Compartment gives you an extra active item slot so you can juggle Big Boy and Lament Configurum or something just as OP or even just carry extra things to sell later, PLUS you get more ammo on guns. When you compare all that to the Marine he really seems underwhelming.

I've killed the past of the 4 main characters, beat the game near 20 times now, unlocked the bullet, the robot and the paradox, and i've just learned you can drop guns and sell items

Great video. I’d love a overall basic guide as most are pre updates. So many new things I don’t understand
I haven't read anything about the new updates I'm trying to enjoy figuring it all out myself. So far I've done everything except the new secret floor (which I still don't know how to get to). Playing through my runs on the new update I feel this beginners guide still holds up. I do want to make an updated version of this guide, but I feel that it's more helpful than all the outdated ones.

I feel I always pick the wrong chest and get to the 4th chamber with 15 guns or more and maybe one active item and it's frustrating cause I need items to make my guns better not more guns
That sucks, have you tried carrying an empty gun to throw and pick up each floor? I know you're talking about chests but I figured I'd ask.

I'm not much for betting but I bet there was at least one insight into the game you learned from this. You should try 100%ing the game without dying. I've only done it once because the Shambling Round Hunting Quest takes FOREVER.
i got 150 deaths and ive gotten to forge 1 time. maybe i speedrun little too much compared to my actual skills
Speedrunning isn't bad though! Try to alternate between doing a speedrun run and a run where you take your time and try to explore everything.

Brown chest are the only chest that can drop keys
If you get one of the Heart Lockets from a Red chest it also drops a key.

@@nar5205 This game is super hard if you aren't already good at games like this. Don't worry about your death counter, just have fun and train to get better. If you aren't going to the first secret floor every run, make it your goal to master that floor so going there is NBD. The more floors you go to the more loot you get, and that makes the later parts of the game easier.
The second floor is actually one of the hardest in the game, so mastering it is a big hurdle in this game, by mastering the secret floor in between the first and second floor you will have a better time mastering the second floor.

Wish this game had online multiplayer. Boggles the mind they didn't even bother with a coop mechanic in a Gauntlet-like dungeon runner. Then follow it up with a mobile game exclusive to Apple ...
ETG was Dodge Roll's first game and they made countless mistakes and learned lots of lessons making the game. I'm sure the game doesn't have online multiplayer because the 4 person team couldn't make that work.
XTG won't be an exclusive to Apple forever, and even though I have an iPhone, I'm waiting to own the game not rent it, and play it on a computer.

So I’m new to this game and recently discovered that extra hearts (or half hearts) can be saved for later. Do they get used automatically when I get hurt?
No, you'll lose hearts normally, but the ones you saved for later can be found at the shop, in the beginning of the floor or at the "last" room (where you can go to the next floor)

To me, it seems you can do more with a keyboard and mouse, especially if you have programmable buttons on your mouse.
I have Use and Reload bound to side buttons and I will flip tables and reload by pressing both buttons with my thumb.

40/69 hours to beat Dragun for the first time? That seems like a lot, i got my first dub at 17 hours, but i had died over 60 times already
I had my first Dragun kill at 160 deaths, "the game was harder back when I did it" (it was), but also you're probably better at games than me, congrats either way, and thanks for commenting.

It took me 350 runs to beat the game
I died 75 times and I still can't get to the third floor. Guess I'll go back to The Sims
Not sure if joking, but if you are having fun playing don't worry about how far you can get. If you aren't having fun then by all means go back to The Sims. This isn't a game you beat and are done with it, I'm still playing this over other games because every run I play I have a blast.
But blue chests can have the scrambler
And scrambler is one of the best guns in the game! Blue Chests also drop my favourite: Glass Cannon. The thing is, this game gives you items in a randomized, but also set order. Like shuffling a deck of cards and always drawing from the top. There's more to it than that, but basically, the items in chests you don't open, are given to you (or offered on sale) either later in that run, or in future runs. So I know I'm getting Scrambler and Glass Cannon eventually.
