  • The third story of the 40th Anniversary collection, adapted from an original story by SiFs Chris Sig, and featuring (for the last time) @tomsmodellingcorner as the storyteller.
Henry's first chance of the Express is set back as he performs poorly, but can he hold back his temptation to show the new engine what he's capable of?

_"Henry won't need pushing, Sir. I'll have to hold him back."_ Way to use that quote for the title of this episode. 👍
Henry might be slow in this design, but he's proven to be reliable. James _could_ learn a thing or two from him. 😉

That was a story I never expected to see. Henry and James's first meeting was good, and I felt sorry for Henry when he was having problems going slow. I loved the last bit where James got roasted by Gordon and Henry. These early stories that take place between stories by the Rev. W. Awdry are just amazing 😀.

Another very good episode set in S1, this time with Henry in the lead that shows what he was up to during the period between Edard, Henry and Gordon and Thomas and the Breakdown Train.
Like the way you have Henry's issues affecting him pulling the express and the way he loses it, and gets depressed of pulling slow trains instead.
I was a bit surprised to see James in Red here compared to black, since you had done Fire and Smoke, which I thought was fantastic, added a lot to S1 and mentioned in the description that it was a S1 flashback. Of course that episode did contradict the TV series of James being red, but since the TV series often tripped over itself I thought it was no big deal.
I still see Fire and Smoke as part of canon along with this one.
I liked the cameo of 98462 in the background, good way of connecting his appearance in Spiteful gesture and In with the Old. Along with 4471 as well.
Great work again mate and keep them coming

Really liked this one! Another anthology story showing a different side to what happened in the official show.
The only thing I don’t really get it the title. Henry wasn’t really ‘holding back,’ he just…couldn’t go fast. I’m not sure what I’d rename it to. Maybe ‘Slow and Steady’…’Slow Going’…eh, hard to say. But I guess if the biggest problem I have with the episode is it’s title, that’s pretty small potatoes.

I think the main reason Henry was hulling the express train that slow is because he's using the wrong sort of coal for his firebox, now you see if he'd have thought to have welsh coal before he first came to the island and bring the long train of welsh coal along with him he would have zero steaming issues
