Why Riga? Where is Riga? Aren't there polar bears roaming the streets of Riga? Hold on a moment! You are on the point of finding it out. www.whyriga.com
Why Riga? Because it's fantastic. I went in town in winter 2013 and I'll never forget the incredible inner city, the great food and beers and the fantastic sunset on the iced sea in Jurmala... You'll be always on my mind, beloved Riga. ;) Greetings from Italy.
I'm literally crying. I miss my country so much. All the peace, nature, family. Thanks a lot for making this video, showing our beautiful nature. I wish I will return back one day.
We visited Riga in July 2015. Loved it. Rich in culture, beautiful architecture, ornate churches with live musical programs, friendly people and pocket friendly for tourists.
#MadhabiBanerji Pocket friendly for tourists, haha (Best quote in 2017). By the way Apu (Sister), What is it like to live in Latvia's extreme winter weather?
I was just in Riga. The central market is great, full of local goodies (honey, cheeses, pickles, smoked fish etc). The Old Town is beautiful. The Art Nouveau quarter and surrounding areas have 100s of buildings with Art Nouveau facades. Outside Riga, Jurmala has 100s of pretty wooden houses. Cesis is a nice town with 18th century charm in some parts, and, the castle ruins are worth a visit. And don't forget to try the unique drink, Kvass - the one from the tap in the central market is superior to the canned ones.
Nice video! So nostolgic!!! I have been there in 2012-2013 as an exchange student in Latvia University. I loved it very much. watching your video I remember all the places I had visited. Greetings from Uzbekistan
Увидев этот город первый раз, просто влюбилась в него! А еще там живет моя любимая сестричка. Очень хочу туда опять и опять... Всегда уезжаю со слезами.
Absolutely stunning! Can't wait to be there. For who don't know, Riga is one of the few cities in the world that, in twenty-first century, still preserved constructions from the Middle Ages and baroque period.
I am amazed the Russian commies did not demolish it under their tyrannical rule like they did to Ukraine although Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv are showing their charms and slowly struggling to get out of the soviet past.
+Pavlo Ivanchenko Yeah Russian commies like Trotsky....opps he was born in Kirovograd. Guess he was Ukrainian. Or Zinoviev, head of the Comintern? Nope, also Ukrainian. Okay, at least Dzerzhenski, founder of the Checka? Nope, Polish. Well certainly Stalin was Russian? No, Georgian. Very strange "Russian" empire, that Soviet Union.
+Pavlo Ivanchenko Odessa is 100% Russian, founded, settled, and built by Russia. Lviv was Polish until Stalin and Bandera removed the Poles (i.e. killed) and replaced them with Ukrainians. (Only Bandera gets a statue though, seems like Stalin should have one next to him for giving you the territory.) Kharkov and Kiev are also built by Russia/USSR -- as is everything in Ukraine. In Russia, there are plenty of Soviet monuments around, but Russians are not stuck psychologically in the past like Ukrainians. It is part of history, that's all. Russia's economy and infrastructure are much better than Ukraine's. (I have travelled extensively in both countries.) Ukraine's oligarchs have robbed and ruined the country for 25 years and instead of looking in the mirror you blame Russia. Taking responsibility for your own problems will fix Ukraine 10x better than smashing a statue of Lenin (which is not hurting anybody) -- and who by the way, created Ukraine, promoted Ukrainian identity, put the Russian territory of Novorossiya in Ukraine, comprising about 40% of modern Ukraine, brought literacy in Ukraine up from 20% to 100%, and electrified the whole country. Sounds like a terrible oppressor.
I visited Riga few years ago, it was winter, a lot of snow, the city felt so mysterious, but yet so warm, so colourful and joyful. Ah I fell in love with it... I hope to visit Riga again someday, and this time during summer :) Greetings from Lithuania, with loads of love
This is such a lovely video that reminded me sooo much of this amazing country that I was honoured to visit in many occasions. Latvians are such great people, so simple an yet so full of history and a strong identity. I fell in love with Latvia, her people and one special girl that I will always remember. Thank you Latvia!
Apart from Old Town and Art-Nouveau tours, be sure to check out the part of Rīga that is located on the left bank of river Daugava. A lot less tourists go there. Especially Āgenskalns and the coast along Ķīpsala, which has a lot of amazing renovated wooden architecture and a completely different feel of the city. Go as far as the restaurant Ostas Skati. On the right coast -- Northern end of Andrejsala has some fantastic industrial port/river views especially at sunset, no tourists ever go there
I notice that this video was published in 2011, but I wanted to thank you for the video anyway. I will go to Riga tomorrow from Stockholm. I really look forward to it. :)
To man arī būtu paticis redzēt. Bet vienalga lielisks video, kā jau teicu! :)
Hii and thank you for showing my cauntry! I really loved it whit all of my heart and my favorite part was the 5:14 I don't know why, and again thank you for showing, bye 😘
A wonderful video, I would have only added at the end of present - views from the song festival, where thousands of singers sing. It's an amazing view. Nowhere else in the world it is.
Because Riga was too long on the edge of Europe and now that the town is part of it Riga wants to show with pride its jewels. Baltic sea, architecture, love for singing, culture, its troubled history, the desire for freedom, wellness searching, its attitude toward cleaning, life education how to live with two different languages, two different religions, the beautiful golden-haired women it's easy to fall in love with, respect for tradition and roots. All these things Riga gives us and we european ones appreciate so much. I like Riga a lot. Welcome to big Europe|.
Nice video! I was studdying in Riga and I loved it (you can see in my videos one that I did about the city, called "Riga"). I love the country and I dream with going back there :)
2 min ago I was reading comments and realized how people write comments about religions and judging them to not to come. I mean, this is so rude. There are tons of people who travels around the world to discover and you say you don't want them in your country? Idk what to say, put yourself in their position and think that the country that you went and people there doesn't want you. What are you gonna think and do? Please don't judge people because of their religion. That's all I can say, and if you're still reading this thank you. And also: like this comment if u agree
I'm a Indian And I'm planning to pursue my masters in Latvia..will it be fine? Are there any chances to face racism? Plz somebody let me . know..that's the only doubt I have..
