  • This solo piano arrangement of Liszt's "Festklänge" was created by August Stradal (1860-1930). He was a virtuoso pianist who arranged all of Liszt's Symphonic Poems for solo piano. He even studied with Liszt for a short time. Risto-Matti Marin (b. 1976) is a Finnish pianist who has recorded Stradal's arrangements of Liszt's Symphonic Poems.
The following is copied from Wikipedia:
"Festklänge, S. 101, is the seventh symphonic poem by Franz Liszt. Written in 1853 during Liszt's time in Weimar, it was first performed on 9 November 1854 and was published in 1857. The German title means "festive sounds", and Liszt had intended the piece to be played at his wedding to Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein."
If anyone is wondering, that wedding never happened.

Personal Note: This video fulfills a viewer's request. Festklänge was on my list already, but I moved it up based on that request. I don't always respond to comments, but read most of them and "Like" many of them. Another viewer requested Hamlet and I hope to get that done at some time in June.
Thank you for watching and for reading the information I enter here!

OMG yes thanks so much for doing my suggestion!!!! This masterpiece is my 2nd favourite symphonic poem after Les Preludes! The middle section which is a polonaise is so dreamy and dramatic at the same time :D Stradal was so crazy when he made this transcription XD and btw I'm gonna upload the Synthesia version of this :P

This symphonic poem coruscates in all its grandeur! By the way, my favourites are Heroide Funebre, Hunnenschlacht, Mazeppa and Hamlet.

Stradal hâd to have had crazy skills because his transcriptions are insanely difficult to play

Carolyn Sayn-zu Wittgenstein was Polish... Hence the polonaise sections I presume? The woman drove Liszt nuts I recall hearing in one of Robert Greenberg's lectures.

The next symphonic poem requested was Hamlet. After that I'll plan to do Prometheus. Thank you for your request and for watching!

It's one of the easier transcriptions of the symphonic poems lol, so you might want to give it a shot.
