  • Stage 1 455 head modification and install
Time to put the finishing touches on the stage 1 heads for the 455. I got them back from the machine shop fitted with new stage 1 stainless valves and stage 1 springs. There's a few modifications that need done before they can be installed. Rocker arm shaft assembly issues cause setbacks but the build continues.

I also did a budget home port n polish on my heads. And had west coast heads touch up what I missed and do head job.

I don't recommend standard felpro head gaskets. First 455 I built, one head gasket blow out!, while doing a full throttle run getting on highway ,Causing compression to blow out.
I go with orange head gaskets from T/A perf.

I recently bought complete 1973 455 out of an Electra. Upon taking it apart for a refresh, I found that the heads were numbered differently. One head is casting # 1242445 and the other head is casting # 1241860. Both are stamped as 73. Is this normal? Can these be used on the same block although mix matched? Or do I need to have matching numbers on both heads. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

those casting numbers dated 72-74 are both 71cc closed chamber heads so they should be fine to use together. I would definitely measure the valves to make sure they are the same. If you wanna be 100% certain you can measure the chamber cc of each head to make sure they are the same. they also used those same casting numbers in 75-76 they were 76cc open chamber. I don't recommend using a 71cc head and 76cc together so make sure of your date codes. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps!

How many stages are there? 11 or does Buick only go up to 10?
