  • Gareth Southgate MUST make changes if England are to stand any chance of winning EURO 2024. Last night's performance against Denmark was one of the worst in recent memory at major tournaments, but why is it not working? In this video, Ben Bowman breaks down England's pressing problem, why changes in midifled are needed and why Harry Kane is struggling.

Southgate is fundamentally, a limited manager tactically.
He had great success based of a simple system:
-3ATB with at least one DM to provide defensive solidity
    -threat from set pieces
    -wingbacks who can cross
-Kane dropping deep to play runners in behind to compensate for a lack of creative mids
-as well as two gift wrapped easy knockout paths in 18 and 21.
The losses of Maguire (set piece threat) Shaw (natural width on left) Sterling and Rashford (run in behind) have shown his shortcomings this year and how Gareth really doesn't have a plan B

I 100% agree with you by having foden central, Gordon on the left and Bellingham alongside Rice. Our best moments came from when foden came in central. Bellingham can still perform amazing playing as an 8, he is a proper ball-carrier. Gordon will also be great on the left, he’s a good presser and can offer a lot on the left.
And yeah, Wharton could also be nice to potentially have since Rice is definitely not amazing as a sole 6.
But yeah, I agree with everything you’ve said man, dropped a like.

Seems like the consensus has been get Gordon in on the left for a few days now, but for whatever reason Southgate is not doing this.

    Nice video mate!
It just seems so simple... Foden vacates the LW and then Trippier has to run that whole side. So there's no left side threat, it's easy to defend, no press and we're open to counter there. Trent is shoehorned in without any balance.
If we really planned to play this way with Foden and Trent we should have at least brought in another specialist LB to overlap, stretch the other team and press high. Mitchel? Doughty? Chilwell? None in the squad.
Wholesale changes are needed to get balance. Use the France template; direct wingers, classic 9, lefty wizard 10 and workman pivot. We can achieve that balance with Foden 10, Bellingham and Rice pivot, Gordon and Saka wide of Kane.

Thanks mate! Totally agree. The decision to not take another left back is bonkers

Is not the coach, the players are just not good enough. Look at spain, all 11 players can hold the ball so well. Can attack without fear, leave only one or two players at the back. England just do not have quality on the ball. The only way is to play long ball, cross ball and hope the striker will do the job.

    • @BenBowman_
      @BenBowman_  Před 7 dny

You can't say this England side doesn't have quality on the ball when we've got Kane, Foden, Rice, Saka, Bellingham, Trent

We really need a proper left back. Surely there's another English left back Gareth could have taken while Shaw recovers

Agree it should have been Mitchell

We need to ditch this double pivot. In Qatar we played a 433 and it worked. Keep the same back 4.
    You either play
    Foden Kane sake
    Bellingham rice mainoo/Wharton
    Or
    You play
    Gordon Kane saka
    Bellingham rice Foden
We looked completely shafted because of the system. Change it back to a 433 and it’ll be night n day from what we’ve witnessed

Yeah I agree you’ve got to let rice go a bit

Two things, you are a Tottenham fan, and you support Southgate...
Southgate is the first and last problem for England...but the players too lack a captain. Kane is not it.

A captain doesn’t have to be the most vocal, that team is full of leaders
