- I know almost everyone listening has a personal experience with Alzheimer's disease, and many of us in midlife are facing taking care of parents or loved ones suffering with this devastating form of dementia. Today I'll be talking about lifestyle changes, supplements, and other interventions that have been shown to decrease the incidence of Alzheimer's, and also discussing the conflicting information around the subject of hormone replacement and Alzheimer's disease. I love your talks, this is empowering without frightening people. I have AD in my family and am also a survivor of a life altering brain injury. i will definitely be on hormone replacement until the day i die. I don't want to know my gene status as my approach is to live like an e4 anyway whilst retaining the hope that I don't have it.
I have the E-4 gene. When I got the lab results back, it stated right on the lab report, "this patient should not drink alcohol." My doctor told me that's because alcohol creates inflammation in the brain which contributes to Alzheimer's. I live a healthy lifestyle, and one thing I added into my daily routine is CBD because it reduces inflammation in the body.
It's interesting....the CBD has completely cleared up a life long cystic acne problem. It works better than any prescription I've ever taken for acne. I figured if it can clear up the inflammation in the cystic acne, there is a good chance that it may prevent inflammation in my body, including my brain, thus making CBD neuro-protective.
I love your channel. Thanks for sharing such good information on all subjects. My mom passed away two years ago from Alzheimers after breaking a hip (osteoporosis) so I am trying to do everything possible to avoid both. I love how you make everything practical. (My APOE is 3/3 too. What a relief that I didn't have a 4.) Thanks again.

Super easy just ask your doctor for the test. Those are cheap tests that can be done with any lab.

No mention of the benefits of estrogen HRT with regards to Alzheimer's?
I'm very worried my dad died of dementia and brain tumour at the age of 87, his sister also died of alzheimer's at the age of 94, I'm 54 and perimenopause i take HRT patches and mireena coil, i have severe sleep anxiety I've got underactive thyroid as well!
I take fish oil b vitamins and vitamins k2 de a d magnesium glycinate at night❤

You can take a plant based DHA instead of a fish oil one.
Actually, studies shown on your own protection, focus on marine base omega-3's not plant-based omega threes like ALA they don't seem to have the same benefit
Can you do this Apoe test in Canada.
I'm not familiar with Canada and availability for lab tests but I imagine so since it's widely available throughout the world
In perimenopause take progesterone is for all the Month o has to stop for the days?
There are two ways to take it with your personal choice. You can take it every single day or you can take it for half of the month, but I prefer to take it every day, because it helps with sleep and moods.
Dr Susan thank you so much for this channel I’ve been following all that you say but I have a question; would HRT keep uterine polyps from growing back once they’ve been removed on a post menopause women? Or could the HRT cause the polyps to grow back?
Polyps are almost always benign and they sometimes can recur -it's just a part of life but not a big deal just a hassle and it's controversial whether they are fed by estrogen or not because plenty of women get them and they're not on estrogen so I would put that in the hassle category and not worry about it!

Hi my name is Tammy and I just turned 60 my doctor took my HRM replacement which I been on The Climara 0.1 patch since my 30s I had a complete hysterectomy and I don’t really want to be off of it. I don’t know what to do what I can do to help me because I want to be able to still build muscle I train four days a week I don’t smoke moderate drink but that’s it and I train I work out all the time and the sad part is that I’m not gonna be able to gain muscle and that’s what upsets me more than anything hot flashes. I like crazy not sleeping well, what should I do? Please help me.
Go and see someone whose scope of practice better meets your needs. If you see a specialist in menopause you may even be able to get testosterone as well and your muscles will really thank you for that!
