    I watched a few of your painting videos, and now you're all that comes up in my search results. Nothing you can do about that, but CZcams really railroads people back to where they have been before.

      Yeah, weird how it works, because you watch one thing they assume you like it and continue to bring it up

    Chris. I have a nova 390 and proshot ll but I'm afraid to use an oil base through either has I dont want to have change over issues. How do you clean machines from oil to latex or do you have separate sprayers? If I can do any of my finishing off site I will do at shop with my HVLP guns for oil base.
    Thanks

    • @pbaylis1
      @pbaylis1 Před 8 lety +3

      Don't be afraid to change over from oil to water based. I do it all often with my unit. Oil paint cleans out pretty easily actually and I've never had issues switching over to water. When cleaning out oil paint, I let a half gallon of solvent circulate through the system for a few minutes, drain that out as much as possible, then circulate a second half gallon for a few minutes, then clean out the main filter and circulate a final half gallon or two. That sounds like a lot but you're saving the used solvent and can re-use it once the paint has settled out of it. Having said that, for small jobs such as applying an oil-based primer to guttering, I'd tend to use a small hand-held HVLP unit or something that you can dedicate to oil paint. I'd only break out the big unit for a whole set of interior doors and trim.

    Don't get the point of oil based priming as opposed to a water based bonding primer. Does it stick better? I only use oil on bare wood if there is bleeding.

    • @davidaustin6962
      @davidaustin6962 Před 4 lety +1

      He said he was already using it for the house, probably some bare wood there, so it was on hand, but normally use waterbase.

      Gold metal flake under coat, with a semi clear red top coat; you'd have the only house with hot gutters like that! :)

    I've watched the guy several times over the years put cardboard in the gutter... Here's the problem you're spending way too much time putting all these little short pieces plus wind comes and they will blow out. I use 12' pieces of facias, With a 4' piece of rebar that you can buy it home depot on each piece. It is fast and a lot more easier and it will not blow away. I have 4 to 6' pieces for short short runs. I have my guys get up on a roof as I mostly do houses 3500 and square foot down. Less than 10 minutes they can place all the soffit on top of the gutter with the rebar. You guys are wearing yourself out with all the short cardboard And I see tape in it.

      I think it means ground. They use that term in Europe.

    • @spockmcoyissmart961
      @spockmcoyissmart961 Před 6 lety

      In the US, there is a 3rd bonding/ground (earth) copper conductor in the power cord, which is connected to the metal frame of the sprayer. I think he is worried about 'static electricity' created in the plastic hose and flammable paint??? OR else, simply waiving a metal wand around and possibly hitting the home owners power lines.

  • @carlosbetancourt316

    why prime them if they were previously painted??

    • @davidaustin6962
      @davidaustin6962 Před 4 lety +2

      Outdoor, good idea ... powerwash doesn't always remove all dirt, not oxidation ... can still have a powdery oxidized surface that the paint won't stick to. You can hit it with a brush and soap and a good rinse, probably will help but primer should soak into where it will grab on tight.

    "DIY gutter painting with airless sprayer and professional setup"
    There I fixed your title. 😒
    I'm sorry but I saw/heard no tips, "hacks" or any type of DIY stuff for the average homeowner to use (as most don't have the airless sprayer system).
    Sure would've LOVED to have heard or seen tips for anyone having to use rollers/brushes (or even rattle cans).
