2024 listeners?!?
Always 😊
I do now
❤❤ Yes I am ❤❤❤
Bout to jam out to it 🤙good vibes only
Me.
Still listening in 2024. One of the greatest musicians in the history of music. Its very sad to see what his body has done to him...its sad to never see a live performance like his 1985 Live-Aid performance ever again.
To think a talented drummer did not desire to be the lead singer, but when he stepped up, he had all this singing, and hit SONG WRITING ABILITY just waiting to come out! What a deep catalogue of amazing songs/ hits spanning several decades. Prolific talent!
You left out multi-instrumental music composer. A true Maestro. I know, its alot. Just elaborating on the song writting composer aspect. Our friend... what's his name, did the entire soundtrack for Disney's animated movie "Tarzan". And dare I say the sound track CD stands on its own merit even without the full length animated movie. I left the theater and went straight to the music store. 🎶 What a beautiful genius 🕊️ Too bad he never got to meet me. Lol. 🌹
Great artist
Who is listening to this song in 2024?
Me!!!!!
Me, literally right now lol
@debrarogers6529 Why? Do you think it's not a good song?
@@KingCobra1968yeah
It's none of your business
I like this song and NO misunderstandings here!
Twilight of the 70s/Dawn of the 80s Los Angeles makes an excellent costar for this video.
Wonder how long they had to wait around for it to rain?!
Do it these days and you see piles of poop
Younger generation who grew up on Genesis and uncle Phil.... Raise your 👏🏽
A fate worse than death: unable to do what you love.
I just love my old school music! Glad I lived in this time!
The harmonies on this classic can NOT be bought at ANY price!!!!
Still here in 2024 Phil is the greatest long live him and genesis
Phil Collins is quite simply one of the most talented musicians of all time.
I was ambivalent about all music until I started listening to Phil Collins in the mid 80s. His approach (humor + seriousness + musicianship) made it all something I could connect with.
The band is called genesis. the band known as Phil Collins came later
Him and Prince are so high up there for me!
@@MarylandManson29absolutely one of the most underrated musicians and songwriters of all time!😎🎤🚭🎼🎶🥁
@@MarylandManson29yes Prince an amazing entertainer and musician songwriter. How can you play and sing like that when you're in high heel boots jumping around, that's why he was in so much pain in the last years
Should re-releasing this song and retitled it Ghosting. Would be a #1 hit for 2024
This is how you “ghosted” a person in the old days 😂❤ 😜 🥁 🎸 🎶 😎
Lesson from this song, never chase, never accept people who play games with your heart. Move on and never look back
It’s now 2024 and their music just doesn’t age.
You’re right about that!!!!
"BUT! You could've callllllled to LET me knowww!" Such a beautiful cadence in that bar
Still listening October 2023
i love phil so sad what he is going through
True!!!!
A really great guy. Wishing him happiness. 💙
Let's have a show of hands for 2023 still listening and watching
Heard this song on the radio today. Decided to check out the video.
That guitar * tweak * Mike does at 2:32 is so epic...I remember even as a kid loving that...God, these guys are so GOOD.
Just got home from Genesis' first North American tour date in Chicago, and they played Misunderstanding for the first time since 1984! What a treat. Great show, and Phil's son Nick on the drums was outstanding. A true chip off the old block.
Thry didnt play it in Detroit sadly
You lucky guy.
I'm here on Chicago NO clue that Genesis was here. Awesome
Didn’t play Misunderstanding in Pittsburgh tonight, but a great show regardless.
@@412JRay I was there. It was an awesome show
35 dislikes? There must be some Misunderstanding.
😂😂very clever
jr2280 There must be some kind of mistake.
Surprised this comment doesn’t have more likes
@@KellenFredricksen "

Hands up 2023 going into 2024 ❤keep it going who's listening when
How about a show of hands for who is listening in 2023.
Real Music Never Gets Old.
So true.
amen !
This man’s voice is so perfect!
It's so recognizable isn't it! I just call him Phill 😊
he's in my top 5 for vocalists! His talent is nothing short of incredible!
One of the best rock drummers ever too.
Close your eyes and he sounds exactly like Bon Scott
Don't let fame and Phil Collins go to your head.
My father always listened to Genesis so I grew up listening to great songs like this. Thank's dad 😊😊
I can relate 😊
Same. The first album I ever heard from start to finish was Invisible Touch when I was four years old!
me too, first album i ever heard was invisible touch when i was 6
🥁🥁🥁💜💜
My dad listened to Phil Collins and looked like a cross between Phil Collins and Jack Nicholson
I just love how Phil is such an emotional person. It really shows in his music!
You’re right about that!!!!
Give him *just 1 more night*
Gabriel got him beat

Just popped into my head today. Looked it up. It's 2023. Still a good song.
A bearded Phil Collins, along with both Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, back in 1980. Genesis was beginning to make it's presence known!!!
No Mr. Powell. White Russians are too strong, and give me a hangover. I'll have a Bearded Phil Collins' with a splash of Genesis instead.
Well thry were actuslly pretty big in the Gabriel-era too!
Can't forget Chester Thompson, the other drummer.
Except they'd been around many years before, with Gabriel fronting them.
One of my all time favorite songs, whether you're happy or sad this song is where it's at
Agreed!
Hallelujah! 😊
After a few pints it really hits too
horrible if you are unhappily in love
Absolutely!
And it puts me right back into the early 80s like magic.. Always been one of my favorites ✌️😎👉💯
❤one of my faves...2023...always a fan! Phil i am so sorry you became sick...you have left a legacy of beautiful, moving, catchy, and emotional music!
As an angelino, great job mates I say.
Love the payphone and old school spinning shell sign!! The good ole days!!
And they where very good.
And the spinning Union 76 sign too :)
Thom McCan shoe store too
Don't forget the 1954 Ford Sunliner he's driving! Lol.
Songs like this never fail to make me think of my dad. I miss you so much 🥺
Same ! Im with you on that one
I loved this song on the radio working at Town & Country steak house in Urbana Illinois back in 1981. GO FIGHTING ILLINI! Thanks Phil Collins for the great memories. Peace
2023 and i still do and always will!! Been listening to them since i was 5 !!!😁
Still holding up in 2021 !
That’s what good musicians do,
make timeless music 🖤
I still listen to Genesis. They're brilliant
This takes me back to way better times !
....listening to songs about girlfriends who have dumped you.....
Yup. Sure does.
Yes, I always think that whenever I hear old songs. And yes, things were much better back then.
Same 😢
Ya, it was much better when you had to go find a phone booth to make a call when not at home. Ah, the good old days. LOL
Even in 2018 after 38 years, this song is still cool to listen to.
Truth Told it sure is a great tune
Listened to this in my youth some 35 years ago...
Great music is always cool to listen to
Truth Told This song is from 1980?
this year be 39 years old
hard to believe
Misunderstanding it's living in 2020, 2025, 2030, 2050... Glorious masterpiece!
Those must be the next ones that asshole Bill Gates is talking about
There’s no misunderstanding, this is awesome music!
You’re right about that!!!
It is a great song but what he didn't understand was: the girl was just not that into him. Or she would have been there. That seems obvious but it still hits hard when it's you that gets stood up.
Timeless
I’ve heard this song at least 200 times. How come it never gets old? Oh yeah, it’s a great song, that’s why.
Phil Collins is what made Genesis a major band.
I'm in a glass cage of emotion right now!
LOL. I wish i could double like this
If you live in a glasshouse
Don't throw stones
And if you can't take blows brother
Don't throw blows
-Peter Tosh
Baxter is that you? Bark twice if your in Milwaukee!!🦮
I remember looking forward to this on the radio... 📻
When I turned 13 I got my first proper radio... well it was
a *digital alarm clock* with radio! It had the *FM* band!!
Clear sound, pure... 🎵 sigh...….
Same as me!!!!!!
A local payphone call was 10 cents in 1980
It was actually 25 ¢
Pay phone rates didn't go up to 25 cents till the mid 80's. In 1980 you could still make a person to person call for a dime.
that phone booth Phil uses at the corner of Hollywood/Gower was still there up until about 2 years ago
Yep. Pay phones didn't jump from a dime to 25¢ in New York City until 1984.
the phone call might cost you a little more late at night if there was a call girl standing there pretending she was using it.😎
For me, that's his best song.
Tony Banks is so vastly underrated
This music is so nostalgic for me. Brings me back to that little white house I grew up in to my father at his chair playing his guitar. My mother in the kitchen baking home made apple pie and singing along with him. Her pearl necklace I loved around her neck. And I climbing the tree in the front yard reading a Nancy Drew book. Good times.
That was heaven, and you didn’t realize it at the time...I know the feeling. 😁
Sounds like fun!
@@mattk1438 if only I had a Tardis and could go back for one day. Just one more day…
That's nice.... this song was playing while I was being raped by my uncle......
No way to recapture those days if negro madness is not smashed at its root.
Misunderstanding .this song never gets old .
This song is melodically beautiful
True!!!!
I don't hear a great melody or hook. It didn't sell well in 1980.
Love this song. The group. The solo artists that left and made more hits. 2024 and doesn't get old.
It is now 1-3-23 and I am STILL LISTENING to this timeless mega- hit…
Didn't make the UK #Top40. Not a mega hit.

It's 2024, this song is playing at Lowe's where I work, every... day... still great.
Is that Right?
There is something so intense about this song. I have a feeling Collins is a hopeless romantic to write the type of love songs over the years that he did.
This was 40 years ago. Damn.
My favorite Genesis song.❤️
Mine too! This song is so intense
It was around the time of this video that Phil Collins and his first wife Andrea Bertorelli had recently divorced. Great song and great video, which I had never seen before, though I was a teen in 1980!
CHEERS!
I don't think they "Stole" this song in any way possible. More like they COVERED it and improved it!
Okay first of all calm down. Second, don't call me a dumbass. And if you don't like a song or a band or just a single member, stop listening to them!
Skydrifter26 ikr this guy is psycho

It's a great song, but if you were Sly Stone and you already wrote that music for another song 15 years earlier, you may not love it. Hot Misunderstanding in the Summer Time.

Love this MAN. Greatest band ever. Have to listen to Phil/Genesis everday.
Great song, great memories...... a payphone, back when people spoke instead of texting.
This will always remain my favourite Genesis track, all eras considered
So easy to miss that last line "he was just leaving" that puts this into even more perspective.
Here in 2023🥳🎉
Really my first exposure to Phil Collins & Genesis, back in 1980, listening to the radio as a 4 yr. old in Monroe, NY!!!
BBQ king!!! 1980 was my first exposure but I was 14😎
I don't always listen to Genesis, but when I do. . .I play their songs at least a few times in a row!
…and very LOUD 😎👍🏻

Bet your mother's proud of your English grades at school, aye old chap?
@@KrabbyLama You've used the possessive form of the word 'mother' indicating that mother possesses 'proud.' It should read 'mother is proud.' By the way, the word 'aye' is an archaic slang word from Middle English seldom used in language in the United States. You must be British.
@@horsewhale9 So what if he is?
You can say and write „mother‘s“ to be possessive or a contraction of „mother is“- „mother‘s a great lady.“
"Misunderstanding" Lyrics:
There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I waited in the rain for hours
And you were late
Now it's not like me to say the right thing
But you could've called to let me know
I checked your number twice, don't understand it
So I went home
Well I'd been waiting for this weekend
I thought that maybe we could see a show
Never dreamed I'd have this feeling
Oh but seeing you is believing
That's why I don't know why
You didn't show up that night
There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I was waiting in the rain for hours
And you were late
Since then I've been running around trying to find you
I went to the places that we always go
I rang your home but got no answer
Jumped in my car, I went round there
Still don't believe it
He was just leaving
There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake...
I always go through the comments for the lyrics. Even if I know them it's nice to see them

Back when they still had phone booths!
Genesis. Great then, and still great now. Excellent quality music that is timeless.
My heart is about to explode 🤯
Song is just a true winner!!!
Masterpiece! One of my favourites! That's why I love you, Genesis Band! ❤️🎼🎶
While I don’t view this as top draw Genesis, it’s still a damn damn good song.
yep!
Love the comment and am genuinely curious to hear what you list within your top draw for them?
Certified Gold
Boy, that sure brings back memories. I was 22 in 1980, and LA looked exactly like that, with the phone booths, the 70s era cars on the street with the fake wood paneling on the sides. LOL. What a great year (at least for me). Then I flew back to Germany- Laker DC10 to London Gatwick, then the boat to Holland and the train to Germany. Great song too.
OMG!!! This song has so much heart in it!!! I love this band, Phill, best time of my life... It's one if the best ever!! ❤
I love it too babe
