      Hey, thanks for giving it a listen! Laughed really hard at the beginning spiel, especially when you thought the ranger class was a park ranger lol. I DM'd a shit ton for my friends when I was in highschool, and whenever they wanted me to dm for them, I would be like "Kay, but we're doing 3.5, none of that 4th edition garbage." Thankfully 5th edition is just a more streamlined version of 3.5, so I still play occasionally. Glad you enjoyed the opening!

    The first episode shows you that the goblins are monsters in the truest meaning of the word. It sets them as unforgivable enemies. It puts you in the main character’s head and shows you that goblins only need to be exterminated, there is no sympathy for them. It doesn’t show what happens in a good light, and the main character eventually goes in and wipes all of them out.

    • @Selenkate

      Also the series wants to be graphic. The scene in episode one does a lot of things: it shows how far the series can go, how evil the creatures are, and instead of hiding behind suggestive imagery it shows the audience in near full the horror of what happens and what these characters have actually seen. Having seen the same evil the characters have seen helps put you in their headspace.
      Now you can argue against it all you want, and say well they could do this or that instead. Sure they could, but they didn't because they want to show the evil not allude to it.
      The best part is, if you aren't ok with that, you can drop it at the start. It shows you very quickly what it can and will do, so there won't be any surprise later when something awful is shown. If you're not ok with that, that's fine just don't get into it. Not all media is going to conform to everyone or even the average person.
      Now if a series is glorifying something despicable, that's a different discussion.

      Personally I think the problem is not the act itself but how the scene was executed and how the subject is treated later.
      There's a series called Garden of Sinners and it's 3rd move starts with SA scene, but it manages to handle a heavy subject like this because the whole move is build around exploring and dealing with it while Goblin Slayer just shoves it in your face from time to time and later even starts to focus on boobs and butts of SA victims.

      I will say however that the attitude towards fan service in the show is very confusing. On one hand we have the show present these despicable creatures and their unforgivable behavior, but on the other hand we have sword maiden’s outfit and the credits of season 2, featuring Priestess in a position you’d expect from a body pillow.

    They include it to make sure you feel the painful emotions and the horror of the actions. It helps you truly understand the HATRED goblin slayer feels.

      My issue with Mili is that so much of their work, I think over half at least, is commissioned work for OTHER media. Which means, even if they're given some amount of freedom to put their own sound into it, they're still making music to fit a certain concept. Which makes a LOT of their discography incredibly hit or miss to me. The quality is always there, but some of it's just not fun for me to listen to, almost definitely because I wasn't into whatever vibe the party commissioning the music wanted for their thing. I love a lot of their stuff. But almost all of it is stuff that isn't directly tied to a commercial or anime or game. (This one's one of the exceptions though, love this)

      the song itself is a matter of personal opinion, so thats understandable. the opening as a whole (meaning visuals alongside sound) is really a downgrade from the previous. you have generic camera pans, unfitting sound to visuals since the visuals are muuuuch more intense than the sound, mediocre storytelling and concept since you don't really get whats the premise of the show and deeper meaning of whats going on from whats going on screen, and the overall storyboard doesn't get you nearly as hyped to see the show as it did with the first opening.

    • @arkayn1906
      @arkayn1906 Před 5 měsíci +29

      @@I-VisiBomb-I @I-VisiBomb-I A song doesn't need to be metal/rock to emphasize the intensity of a show. In these GS OPs, it's the underlying tension throughout the whole songs and their lyrics. Also it could be your own ignorance sometimes if you don't get some of the details in a song or an animated video. And OPs are not always about the hype. It depends on the genre of the anime. OP serves as the introduction or an overview of what's about to happen in an arc/season

    • @loydjp

      @I-VisiBomb-I Před 5 měsíci +3

      @@arkayn1906you're bring up counterpoints to stuff i never said. never mentioned rock or metal. also hype doesnt have to mean excitement in the opening itself, rather than an excitement to see the show while seeing the op. just like openings like zenkuyo no terror can make you excited even though it is relatively chill, or even the first GS OP which just does a better job at fitting visuals to sound. this can go deep for people who see GS violently slashing on monsters with blood splattering all over, and the song in the background is so soft it feels like its not even coming from the source its related to. sure you can say its a motif and that the contrast between the two is the point, but it ends up being a mishmash of things and an imbalance of what you're supposed to get from what you're experiencing at the moment. plus i like how you're being humble by calling for ignorance even though you dont know my background, thats always great.

    • @arkayn1906
      @arkayn1906 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@I-VisiBomb-I I was trying to give an example to say that a song doesn't need loud instruments and fast tempo, like rock/metal music, to be intense. Zankyou no terror OP is relatively soft sounding and the tension of the anime lies in the lyrics, which is a good example of that, so I'm really curious to why are you not that fond of GS OP 2? Also I said it could be of ignorance (a possibility) that you don't recognize the great details the song has, not saying you're definitely lack of knowledge, since I don't know your background. As I commented, I personally think op2 is better than op1, not that op1 is bad. In the end, everyone has their own taste, but there is a undeniably good amount of effort that goes into creating the song. I suggest u checking out the full version and the lyrics if u haven't done already, and try to look at it objectively.

    That scene in ep1 serves its purpose to disturb and disgust.
    Show how horrible and monstrous goblins can be.
    Is it mandatory to the plot to show it tht explicitly? not really.
    But the difference of being more "viewable" vs implied is to set expectations for audiences.
    Make u despise goblins with no ounce of sympathy or empathy, even if their young gets slain as well.
    If it makes someone drop the show? Then tht is good as well since its simply just not meant for them.
    Personally think tht disturbing content has its place when its served to make a point or a purpose, and not just thrown in there for shock content or for the hell of it.

      I especially love that kind of scene. I think people just overcomplicated in interpret the message it want to convey. Every person have their own side of version. To me that kind of scene is needed to show just how horrible goblin can act and do to their victim and how DEEP GS HATE goblin. Rightfully song convey exactly what GS thought about himself. GS is not a person exploded in rage, but his rage is the cold type. That to me is more scary than the explosion one. That's why GS is one of my favourite all time MC that I truly love

  • @haveiszalfaroqie1628
    @haveiszalfaroqie1628 Před 5 měsíci +3

    I can't recall where I've read or heard it, but the whole story is born out of the premise of "what if DnD worlds--the official materials, the books, homebrews, etc.--that is supposed to be fun times for the players are actually realistically grim as it is portrayed?" You know the rule of play: everything happens in the table is separate from irl. You can get nasty gory kinky in the roleplay and the table gives you a safe space to do that (and if you're uncomfy with that, you can just leave the table).
    Goblin Slayer turns that concept/method upside down on its head. This is the story from the eyes of the NPCs. The NPCs which are put in this bleak and dark world where every destination and the path leading to it are filled full with monsters. And the most basic form of monster, the goblins, are the fiercest of all. They are cruel, disgusting, horrid, and deadly; but they are basic. If the tabletop players are not going to kill the most basic of mobs, then Goblin Slayer will do it.
    Hence the narrative writing of this song. You get these eye-piqueing (is that a word?) lyrics already from the intro: _"change unto me my adolescent dreams"_ -- the dream of young'uns are changed, probably to oneself as it gets older. A reference to the older players playing this kind of games? _"My whole body exposed"_ -- something important to yourself, that should've been protected, is now not, and is marked by _your shadows_--already marred mangled desecrated. This could be the players as they are dragged deep into the gritty grim dark of the DM's settings, or could be the NPCs when they are in the face of the goblin raids. And this kind of metaphors continue throughout the entire track.
    It is brilliant. Just the lyrics alone has lot of interpretations and metaphors I popped a bachelor's boner from listening to it. It sounds primal, unbridled, but also open-ended; this is fine, is just a game after all. The Light Novels are born of that premise and this song pokes fun at them. Also, as you said Tony, real badass song.

    Mili got a lot of exposure with Goblin Slayer. Their music has an interesting blend of traditional instruments and electronics, similar to the "electronic tango" style. They always distort the vocals and are very fond of fantasy as a theme.
    Did you notice how wild the lyrics to this song are? "No fairnes is needed for pigs" "destroy the last of your kind to reclaim what's rightfully mine".
    I'm also an old school D&D fan so I apreciate all the role playing regerences. The Goblin Slayer novels are quite good (but violent). They are the first novels I got my son to read.
    If you thought Goblin Slayer was violent, be careful with it's inspiration the clasic (and extremely violent) Berserk.

They mix the jpop sounds with classical, electronic classical, and post-classical genres, use multiple languages in their songs and just randomly shift between english, japanese, chinese, french. You talk about all the interesting parts of the music as a musical piece. I appreciate that perspective. I love how the music works with the lyrics to emphasize them and tell the story.
    The resemblance to a classical piece evoking a medieval atmosphere, It starts out calm but somber, then paints the scene burdened by regret and scars, then snapping out of those thoughts, time to get to work(killing goblins). The music gets a more "playful" tone as the line "Laughter above, playful smile" while maintaining the tension from earlier. The goblins are mocking you, but this isn't a game. Then the drums(very breakcore sounding) are added, sounding chaotic, like that of a fight. Then the shift, which sounds reminiscent of a hymn, is it a prayer for salvation, or part of an epic(which is in the making), or is it reflection on those who could not be saved? Then a shift again, but that of perspective, the sweet wistful thoughts of someone who still needs saving, which goes back both lyrically and musically back to those thoughts of regret, but this time with that off beat-sounding with the high-hat which to me invokes the image of a reel of film skipping signaling that Goblin Slayer is stuck in the past, unable to move on. Or perhaps you could see something being dragged through a dungeon, or the attempt at striking flint, trying to light a torch in a dark cave, either way it's a source of his "chains". Then the rising scales, the rising tension, the enemies closing in. Then the strings almost trail off, but don't lose any of that sense of urgency, almost like we're getting a glimpse at something else going on, but only for a moment. Then more action, more slaughter. Then finally again that hymn in another language again. Do his prayers go unanswered, or is this just the beginning of something much larger? We couldn't possibly know.

    The scenes in episode 1 were needed to show how horrible and disgusting goblins are in the Goblin slayer world and to empathize with the main protagonists (goblin slayer) goal/obsession . It also showed the "worst" outcome/ending that happens when goblins are underestimated in the Goblin slayer universe, which is a very common occurrence.
    Later on, we are shown even more scenes of how cruel the goblins can be and again we see that, what SHOULD be a rare occurrence (the heinous acts that goblins commit) is actually common and is what drives Goblin slayer to constantly be on the hunt for Goblins.

    would be amazing if you reacted to it

  • @TeruSodo
    @TeruSodo Před 5 měsíci +1

    The reason this song is so bizarre because the song itself is a description of the character of Goblin Slayer.
    It starts peacefully, since he was a kid living carefree on a small town, but, they are attacked by Goblins, so the song starts to become more chaotic, as Goblin Slayer has to learn and adapt to keep fighting constantly... but then he starts to doubt, he remember his Sister, his only family, that died in part because of him, would she be ok with what he became? Would she want him to be what he dreamed as a child? But no, He cannot doubt, his mission is not done yet, as there are still Goblins to Slay.

    This song is a masterpiece! Mili and Goblin Slayer are a perfect duo, i wished you turned on the subtitles since they capture Goblin Slayer's determination and quest for what's rightfully his. You should react to Within and Static by Mili as well (they're both from Goblin Slayer as well)

    The group's composer Yamato Kasai is indeed classically trained. Some of Mili's early stuff has no vocals and is just classical instrumentation.

    IMO that scene was included both for shock value that will get buzzing and bring viewers and to show us as viewers that these things do happen.

  • @sherrykathman3309
    @sherrykathman3309 Před 3 měsíci

    I think that scene in the first episode is critical. It is one thing to be told what Goblins do to women they capture, it is another thing entirely to see it with your own eyes. And in the future, if you see female adventurers going to fight Goblins, it makes you scared for her cause she has no idea what will actually happen if she is captured by them while we, the viewer, does. And not to spoil anything, but when Goblin Slayer and his party find themselves in a bind fighting Goblins in future episodes, and Goblins are trying to pin down Priestess and High Elf Archer, you have flashbacks to that scene in the first episode that makes you terrified for them. And they, especially Priestess, know firsthand what will happen to them if they are taken alive. It makes it completely understandable when she pees herself. If she, and we, did not see what the Goblins do first hand, I think Priestess would come off as cowardly and annoying in those scenes. But since we saw what she saw, in detail, we cannot blame her and would probably do the same if we were in her shoes.
    Basically, they made Goblins actually look like monsters and a true threat instead of the tiny insignificant monster only fit for newbies to fight like how most people see them.

    I definitely would enjoy more goblin slayer content since Mili has done multiple songs for the series. The opening for season 2 "Entertainment", the theme for the movie "Static", and an ost from episode 12 "Within" would all be good reactions. In regards to reacting to the show and posting it, I would definitely watch to see your reaction. Episode 1 is definitely the worst in the amount that it shows, but the trauma that some characters experience and how they deal with it is relevant throughout though. Do wish the show wasn't as in your face for shock value (during the first episode especially) but the story, world, and characters are all super enjoyable for me.

    • @Ventorath
      @Ventorath Před 4 měsíci

      FWIW, I think people are just used to Anime skipping / censoring the kind of shit Manga pulls all the time. In this case they deemed it worth keeping because it did a good job of painting the Goblins, the damage they do, and the trauma that arises from that, in a more serious light, which is basically the premise of the entire story. Yes, they could have done it with just raw violence, I don't disagree that it would have worked, but I also don't see it as necessary to censor something when the entire point is for it to be horrid. If it turned into a weird fetish fanservice thing instead of what it was meant to be, it'd be a problem, but that's not what it was.

    Goblin Slayer episode 1 showed it wasn't afraid to push boundaries. The point wasn't to show people that gruesome stuff. The point was to show how disgusting and evil the goblins are. It was to show how horrible things can become when you're not prepared and it kicks off why there's a goblin slayer in the first place. Why there needed to be one. Also it's a DND campaign the creator had with his friends that he made into an anime so I guess he wanted a lot of detail put into his story

    Episode 1 can be kind of rough if you're not as dessensitized to this sort of stuff and can't really power through it, but it is very important. It shows just how much you should despise Goblins, it builds this deep disgust for them that then into catharsis every time GS rips one apart. It also shows how dangerous they can be when contrasted to how unseriously people take them
