    Overlays made with @kangaskdan 's help! Thanks Dan!
    Challenge Results: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
    Universal Pokémon Randomizer Changed Evos: pokehacks.dabomstew.com/rando...
    Chat/Comment Guidelines:
    1: Respect each other, do not intentionally cause arguments and diffuse the situation immediately.
    2: Please no backseat gaming. If I need help, I will ask the chat for help. A lot of the fun for myself and the viewers is coming up with the strategies on my own and solving problems in my own unique way.
    3: Listen to the streamer. If I say stop, I mean stop, and move the discussion on.
    4: Please don't reference other creators' in-jokes and running gags on my stream. Just as much as I wouldn't like another creator using my lore, I would find it disrespectful to use other creators' lore.
    5: Moderators' and streamer's decisions are final.
    The Rules:
    1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
    2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
    3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
    4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
    5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
    6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
    7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
    8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
    9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

    I think I prefer your narrative videos where you include the story. But I understand the point of the just the battles series and it's definitely not bad, just I love the overworld being added into the video
    I do love your channel though! Easily the best small channel and I'm sure you'll continue to grow rapidly :)

      @Squidgy  Před rokem +2

      I prefer the slower-paced videos, too, but I also know some people like seeing fully-evolved from the beginning.
      It's a lot harder to weave a good narrative together when you're overpowered for the first couple of gyms, so this series feels like a healthy middle ground. It'll always be a bonus series, though, and will never replace the main runs!

      Snubbull and Granbull are low-key contenders for a podium finish. Granbull doesn't have great speed, though, so will struggle against Red, but we do get an abundance of excellent physical moves to use, so some Pokémon will be less tricky than they otherwise would have been.

      Being Rock-type alone is bad enough for Chuck as he's got you with two type advantages, but being Rock/Dark is brutal for those two trainers.

    • @Squidgy
      @Squidgy  Před rokem +4

      sandstorm does do more damage in g2 though

    • @SnowyTotodile
      @SnowyTotodile Před rokem

      Oh, man, if Sandstorm could boost special defense in Gen 2, it'd be so amazing in a solo run, as it'd essentially be a better Light Screen - trading a bit of the special defense boost for guaranteeing that 1/8 of your opponent's HP goes away at the end of the turn. This might make the difference between guaranteeing a knockout vs. putting it in healing range and wasting a turn. You'd definitely be using it against Red since all but Snorlax have special moves, too.

      @Squidgy  Před rokem +1

      Berserk Gene would be very circumstantial, but I will add it on to the list of things to try if I'm struggling against Red.
      An instant +2 attack would be very useful, but the 256 turns of confusion might outweigh its benefits - we'll have to see in upcoming videos

      @@Squidgy Not sure how much it helps, larvitar/pupitar are still slow, and poliwrath will kill you with surf instead.
      Though, the AI does silly things, so there is always a chance.
      Btw, return is good, but dont underestimate rock slide flinch when faster, higher reward, and 90% accuracy isnt bad.

  • @wereoctopus
    @wereoctopus Před rokem

    CZcams ate my more detailed comment, but Fire Blast would probably be more useful against Red than Earthquake.
    Despite T'Tar's physical attack, Venusaur having more special bulk, STAB on Rock Slide, and probably having more stat XP in Attack rather than Special, Fire Blast might let you get the 2HKO (or lucky crit) at a lower level. Flamethrower looks roughly on par with Rock Slide though. And assuming fair RNG, two Fire Blasts are ~72% accurate, vs 81% for two Rock Slides.
    I also wonder if Hyper Beam might be decent tech against Chuck's Poliwrath and/or Bruno's Machamp, but that's an exercise for another day.

    • @Squidgy
      @Squidgy  Před rokem +1

      I'm always at loathe to get Fire Blast / Hydro Pump / Thunder as a TM - the process of buying 5500C at Goldenrod, buying the TM, teaching it, and then going back to where I was is a massive time-sink for a low-PP, low-Accuracy move - especially when it'd only be particularly useful against one Pokémon.
      Hyper Beam's out of the question until Kanto, unfortunately - TM15's only available in Celadon Game Corner, and it's 7500C, so it's another big gamble.

    • @wereoctopus
      @wereoctopus Před rokem

      That's a good point. I misremembered whether Gen 2 put those TMs at the Department Store (Goldenrod or Celadon) or the Game Corner.

  • @superdude0977
    @superdude0977 Před rokem +1

    I think using Crunch instead of Return against Karen's Vileplume could save a couple seconds (and maybe a reset). With the pink bow Return has an effective power of 112.2 but a STAB Crunch would have power 120, which might be just enough to one-shot.
    EDIT: Crunch also seems to be the best move against Venusaur and Blastoise before going with Curse strats.

    • @TastyMeerkat
      @TastyMeerkat Před rokem +3

      You gotta consider Tyranitar's massive attack compared to its decent special attack. The small difference in move power more than likely wouldn't make up for that.

      @@TastyMeerkat Right, forgot about the lack of Physical Special split.

    • @Squidgy
      @Squidgy  Před rokem +2

      That's a very interesting idea - because Crunch is Special in Gen 2, it might not have made a huge difference, but I'll review the raw footage over the weekend, grab T-tar's stats, and have a little test of Crunch
