Thank you. You are a life saver I could not figure out what I was suppose to aim for on any other video!!!
I do have better and more useful insight into removing the airbag and horn assembly. Cut the screwdriver head off. Then, go back and notch a "V" groove in the end that you just cut the head or point of the screwdriver off. This will allow you to actually grab and secure the "spring wire" that is securing the airbag assembly to the steering wheel. You need to press in at least a half inch if not more on the spring wire to get it past the "protrusion" that secures the airbag assembly to the steering wheel. A flat, blunt end, while eventually effective, is frustratingly imprecise in pushing the spring wire in towards the center of the steering wheel and beyond the "protrusions" that secures the airbag assembly to the steering wheel. You need to press in much harder than conveyed. The other interesting point, nobody goes back and mentions, is the housing where you insert a mechanism or device is rubber. you can easily force a much larger diameter tool through the opening, within reason, than a 1/8-inch diameter as mentioned. It is not as easy as conveyed and frankly every internet instruction is lacking in real detail. So, if you press in on the spring, and it does not release, but only kinda' of allows the cover and airbag assembly to move a couple of millimeters forward, you need to press in on the spring much harder for greater compression towards the center of the steering wheel.
You can also remove 2 Phillips head screws from the bottom back of the wheel itself (not the center portion) and pop off the back of the spokes where it says "since 1941"
From there just turn the wheel upside down, or look from under it, and get your tabs that way. No guessing or feeling. You'll have a visual path
I chuckled when you said how people have demolished the hole on the steering wheel (ie: ME!) 😂 thank you for the tips on install.
Finally, thank you
Best vid thanks bro
Cool and definitely informative video! Thanks man!
Awesome video
Excellent video, thanks for that bro, I'm fixed my challenger
Great Video! Do you know i a scatpack WB with a flat bottom wheel could take one of those srt lit airbags? planning to buy one but dont know if the LED connection will be available unther it. thanks in advance for any info...
Very informative!!! I’m thinking something else wasn’t working because of the clock spring ??? But I don’t remember what it was but I’m hoping you’ll be able to finish something that needed the spring to make it work not sure it’s even a thing but remember you said something about it so let me know if I’m wrong!!!!???? See you in the next video!!!
Hello. Where did you purchase the clock spring? I need one for my charger hellcat which I damaged while installing an aftermarket steering wheel.
I see your clock spring is the full assembly. When i find them to purchase they are usually just the clock spring housing. Does that part just pop out of the housing you removed with the directional stick? I hope this question makes sense. Im looking to install a heated steering wheel in my scat pack. I found the wheel and clock spring am i can enable it in the radio. Im just wondering about the clock spring before i purchase one.
Funny I just did this today as part of a dash removal I was working on. Think I ended up using a square end screwdriver to get the airbag out since the flat head is difficult like you said..
💪💪💪
Do you have to reset the steering angle sensor?
Very informative video Bro! Thank You for the in depth insight! 😎💪🏽💪🏽
Hi, I have a 2018 5.7 challenger & am wanting to order both an oem srt steering wheel & srt airbag as you have in your video. Do you know whether my stock clock spring & wires will hook up or accept the srt’s steering wheel, air bag, & wiring?
Thanks for vid. they list them 15-17 then 18-23. Do you know the difference? I need to do a 16 SRT
Can this technically be done on a ram 1500 the same way I have a 2015 and all my steering wheel functions besides my cruiser gone and horn does not work.? Any help would be more than appreciate it you have no idea how frustrating this is
Made the bolt look easy coming out. Mine won’t loosen to save my life
1stish👍
That is cool. Glad you made this video. Was wondering how to get the wheel off. Thanks John!
yeah he has it off already so take what he say's with a grain of salt.
Make sure you disconnect your battery first and I would wait a couple minutes before removing airbag
How did your clock spring ribbons get messed up like that??
Does anyone know how to remove the passenger dash air bag for a 2020 Lincoln Navigator ?
Where do I order the clock spring with the illumination?
how I can check the fuse for the same issue?
Does a bad clock spring cause the power steering to not work?
Is the clock spring the same as the SCM (steering control module)? My challenger is throwing a P1009-00 code and my brights won't work. I can't find anything on CZcams regarding replacement of the SCM. I appreciate your video and the great information within it.
so supposedly you have to buy the whole SCM for the clockspring. i was hoping i could’ve just installed the old clockspring on the new SCM
Hey bro where did you get your clock spring from?
Where r the streeing control fuses
Makes it way easier to do the left one first then the right hole 2nd
Thanks for your time and tip bro very helpful blessings your way
i've been on it for an hour. it ain't working. It either still slips off or there is way more to it than what the OP is eluding.
I put the headers im my 2017 Ram 1500 but I make a mistake, move my steering and now I have many service light on. Did you think I have to change my clock spring ?
Most likely you will have to get the truck tuned because of the increased exhaust flow through the o2 sensor
VERY DETAILED & INFORMATIVE!😎
not detailed at all, show us doing it. It ain't going the way he claims.
Can you give us a link to the part pls and part number ?!
Only useful video
If the clock spring is bad. The buttons on the steering wheel won’t work ?
Correct I’m currently having this problem I checked my fuse and they are all good so next thing is finding a clock spring
I need to remove the steering wheel control from the back of the steering wheel.. will the airbag need to be removed?
I can’t get my airbag back on. It won’t latch on the right side. The left side latches. Nothing is in the way.
U ever figure this out?
Recently ran my 2019 challenger into a tree. Both airbags deployed. Now car won’t shift out of park. Will deployed airbags lock the car into park and not you shift into drive. Thank you.
no
If my horn doesn’t work but my steering wheel buttons still works what does that mean?
Did you ever find out? I’m having the same issue. My horn stopped working after changing the airbag/clock spring. I’m not sure if its because the clock spring isn’t properly aligned.
Same here it was working at first and suddenly it stopped
Love the tip on the tool and will have to use it once I get around to installing my new CF wheel. One thing worth noting is the bolt that holds the wheel in place is supposed to be a one-time use bolt because the factory has some sort of thread locker on it. I just put a little Loctite on it when I screw mine back in. The steering wheel bolt torque is 63 ft lbs and if you want a new Mopar bolt, the part number is 6511907AA.
have you actually removed the steering wheel?
@@timh1235 Yep, multiple times. Why?
The "Insight" gleaned from this video is hardly commensurate with the actual process of removing the air bag. But if you've done it then no need to point out "the change" that will make it actually do'able in a reasonable amount of time. @@AndreGuerrieri
@@timh1235 This video makes the process I used easier. If you have an even better way, I'm all ears. My CF wheel is still sitting in my room waiting for installation. I don't like working in the cold 😂
What part number is this clock spring?
Did u find out?
You said there were a lot of garbage videos online. Yeah, this is another one. You went to a whole speech about using a cut off driver handle, thats right (I use a t handled torx wrench) but you could have just removed the two phillips behind the wheel and been able to see where the metal springs are to push on, easy. You didnt even show the actual removal , you skipped that whole sequence. lol
Atleast tell us the part number
