This match being from last year, you can see how Asal attitude has improved since then. Almost no more blocks, no more antics on and off court...
I used to love when he lost, but now, I just love seeing him play.

Indeed breathtaking stuff that squash continues to allow this kind of continuous interruptions from constant interferences without any consequences to the players whatsoever. And then, all of a sudden, the players get a severe punishment.

At 9:15, notice, in the front view replay, Asal stays leaning to his left to give a subtle block to Gawad. Then, of course, he acts so innocent. The PSA has got to stay on top of this guy....

There was an insane amount of blocking and subtle blocks on almost every shot. Is this how to become great ? Maybe

9-9 obvious stroke. Shorter or longer ball ok, but no man’s land you have to really aggressively clear. One of the first things I learned. “Karate yes, ok. Karate no, ok. Karate so-so - squished like grape.”

Some referees believe giving a “no let” projects strength. I’m not a fan of that mentality.
Asal has the skills to be intentional about clearing or blocking. I wish he would concentrate more on the former.
Of the current top ten, Gawad, Coll, Elias, Hesham, & Makin…are all intentional about clearing for their opponents, nearly 100 percent of the time.
I’m not a fan of the concept of “taking space” when it’s the opponent’s shot.
Squash has an honor code to call your own shots down, out, and to clear the way for the opponent-not to throw in a subtle block then gaslight the ref and fans by pretending it’s not happening.
I would just assume referees stop a rally and award the point of they see consistent blocking. That would disincentize it in a hurry and force players to self manage.

the only problem with new style refereeing is that it has started to force refs into giving only a stroke or no let. sometimes its just a let and can calm the players down, but when you give strokes or no lets for borderline stuff it gets out of hand. players look for the same situation for cheap stroke or no let and leads to more traffic issues. we know psa is trying to encourage more playing of the ball etc with this refereeing style, but i feel its gone almost past the point where they are giving no lets for simple lets and strokes if there is even a slight unintentional block. IMO ruining things alil, but when 2 clean players play it often doesnt matter too much.

Assl's movement off the ball was not efficient to say the least. That said he's a good talent to reckon with. However between in a match between gawad and asal I'll always find my favor sympathies cheering whatever that might be, in gawad's corner

The referee created the need for interference here. Head repeatedly penalised for appealing on genuine blocking from Asal then reprimanded for playing through as well. I think he realised then diverted the next appeal to the video referee…

the referee was too lenient (in general) and scared to use conduct warning/stroke/game/match. Do that a few times and I guarantee all of a sudden everyone plays cleanly.
