I have Trex deck, 25 years old, Winchester Grey. Looks brand new in 2023. Trex is extremely heavy!

I guess every story is a little different. My parents have a ten-year-old Trex deck that is horrible. When it gets extremely cold in Ohio the deck bangs pops and cracks all throughout the winter. It is also faded terribly and needed several of the fasteners replaced already which have rusted away. Personally I cannot stand plastic decking.

@@Swimfinz I did. I just personally believe that everyone talks Trex decking up like it is flawless. In reality it has lots of problems no one tells gullible homeowners who know nothing about this overpriced underperforming decking. I know it's about a 50-50 split with customers who have Trex decking half of them loved it the other half hate it. I can't say I personally hate it. I just know it has a lot of problems and it's extremely pricey for having all those problems.

Me I'm not so nice Trex is the absolute worst decking you can buy it's literally garbage their bs hangers clips can't handle 50km/h winds but yet white cedar can 😂 I'm missing a bunch of siding on my house because their clips failing and the wind picking up the decking and smashing the house with it because it hit the ground. Deck frame is still in perfect shape only thing that failed is the Trex.

I found out when I lived down south Trex decking is some of the most miserable unacceptable material to use in southern locations. The salty environment makes the fasteners disappear in the blink of an eye. The sun warps the decking in every which direction and on extremely hot days the oil emerges from the plastic and makes it as slippery as ice. My personal opinion of Trex decking is it is a over-priced under-performing product that I would never use on a personal projects.

The cost of the clips is enormous but is worth it. The amount of absorbed heat associated with Trex is not. Install exotic hardwood instead and get the best of both. Low heat and long life. Tigerwood and Ipe looks better, lasts longer, has cooler temperatures and is less expensive than Trex.

It all depends on what you want. Exotic hardwoods are more expensive than Trex and you have to stain every year or two. Trex is low maintenance and will outlast the wood products

@@Revivehometips The heat was the main deciding factor for me with the deck boards. You can't walk on Trex barefoot or set on the deck in the summer. It's like having blacktop pavement with the heat it absorbs. The Tiger wood is actually cheaper than Trex also. I personally have a 14'x50' Tigerwood deck. The deck boards were $26 each for 14ft 1x6 "plus" thick with both sides grooved from Advantage Lumber. The grooved 16ft Trex boards are $42+ tax. I bought 102 of them. I framed the deck with 2x10s set 1 ft on center with an 8' joist length using joist hangers. The entire deck is screwed together using stainless steel fastners. The posts are set on top of 3 foot deep 12" sonotube poured with 5k psi concrete and anchored down with 18" J hooks embedded and used a post base to secure. I painted the deck framing white to stop the carpenter bees. The joist tops are covered in rubber joist tape. It is a bit overkill but I'm a licensed residential home builder in South Carolina. So I do it the way it should be done to make it a once and done lifetime deck. Trex has been having issues peeling. The Tigerwood will go a beautiful gray color if you dont oil it and lasts 25+ years. If you want that wild look and a deck that lasts forever, it only takes about 2 hours to mop the oil on every year. I oiled all 4 sides before I put the board down though.

What happens when they get weathered or uv damaged. Do they break and allow the board to lift?

That's not even biggest issue. Biggest issue is tiny rocks getting stock in grooves between boards. Where those come from you ask? Your shoes. I had to spend like 2 hours to get all of them out on a little 15'x7' deck.
